I am really excited about which projects the internet will dream up with garage mode! I think it will add a tremendous amount of value to the Labo kits.

I just use my Pixel usb-c. I have it with me any time I'm traveling anyway.
So... I have a Pixel, and I'd obviously prefer not to have to travel with yet another charger, but I'm scared to do this because of all of the "THIRD PARTY DOCK BORKED MY SWITCH" horror stories. Am I good to use my Pixel USB-C charging cable with my Switch?
Note: Answers are appreciated but will be ignored, and I will continue not to do so out of fear
A Pixel USB-C charger and a third party dock are going to have completely different use scenarios because of how the Switch's power draw changes in handheld vs. docked mode. If you're charging the Switch, or playing the Switch in handheld mode while charging, there's likely not going to be any problem using any 3rd party USB-C adapter. Heck, I've even used a USB-C to USB-A cable to charge the Switch in a similar manner.
But that all changes in docked mode, and the higher power draw means you probably don't want to use anything other than the official Nintendo AC adapter.
As a previous Fastsnail dock user myself, I'm wondering if there has been any correlation between the type of AC adapter used with the Fastsnail and whether or not it resulted in a bricked Switch.
Huh, that Toki HD remake has just been announced for the Switch. A game that was announced in 2009, was greenlit in 2013 and still hasn't been released anywhere. Will this maybe be the time it actually comes out?

please @Nintendo fix the eshop so it's easier to find games by genre, price, popularity, release date, sales price, etc. I dread going to the shop these days unless i know the title of the game i want. I can't believe they can't pay some contractor a few thousand dollars and have a billion times better eshop experience.

Considering how slick pretty much everything Nintendo designs is I am still surprised and saddened by the "obviously designed by an engineer" eshop.
edit- And Nintendo isn't the only one, the PSN leaves a lot to be desired. No idea on the Xbone.
edit 2- Seriously 'suggested search term function' get your shit together. You literally have only three games with "Xeno" in the title and not a single one of them are Xenophobia, Xenophobe, Xenophile, Xenon, or Xenophobic.

I find the lack of quality control far more offensive than the design or layout. It's like they are actively trying to rip people off in some cases.
In regards to some questionable games that have been making their way to the eshop? Cause oh yeah. I think Nintendo is starting to come down with Steam-itis.
Hopefully they catch it early before it develops further.

I think the suggested term thing is just the switch keyboard's built in autocorrect function not tied to the eshop. It looks the same when you type stuff when posting screenshots to social media in albums.

Which is all the more reason for the eshop to do better. I mean the PSN may also be annoying, but at least when you start typing in letters it starts filtering their games.

May is shaping up to be a *very* busy month for me, just on the Switch alone:
- May 4: DKC Tropical Freeze
- May 15: Battle Chasers Nightwars
- May 25: Dark Souls
Not to mention State of Decay 2 on the 22nd. Not a Switch game, but I'm gonna have to fit it in somewhere, because I keep pulling out the original just to replay it, and I'm desperate for even just a new campaign, if that's all it is.

IMHO the Steam-itis is still in the early stages, they can nip it in the bud if they act sooner rather than later. I hope they do. I mean if any company out there knows the dangers of letting trash clog up your library it should be Nintendo. They learned that one the hard way.

The only reason the Xbox One isn't having that problem is that they told indies to go fuck themselves for a couple of years.

on the other hand, from nintendo's experience every sale of garbage on the eshop is still more money for them, so at what point does it actually lose them money to have junk on the eshop? Again, i don't even know that they need to keep stuff out as much as they need to have a better way to filter that stuff. With all the gloom and doom of third-party docks, what do you guys do for charging when you're away from home (and dock)? I have yet to take my Switch out and about, but I don't want to brick it with a Non-tendo brand cord or whatever.

Nintendo knows from first hand experience that you cannot have garbage flooding your market. They survived the crash of '83 and implemented Nintendo's "Seal of Approval" to prevent such a thing from happening to them again.
Nintendo is quickly becoming an indie platform of choice (which is a phrase I never thought I'd say) mainly because for indies trying to sell their games on Steam is a bitch. When several hundred games are being added each week to a platform it becomes super hard to find the good stuff. I mean this forum and others certainly help, but we're not most people. It'd be in Nintendo's best interest long term to ensure a certain level of quality before giving a game their seal of approval.

It has a well designed store, and not because of a games shortage. It has your typical “new games,” “coming soon,” and “best rated” sections, but the very top one is “games we picked for you” based on what you’ve playing and it’s not dominated by AAA titles or new games. Mine shows Furi, Enter the Gungeon, the Bioshock Collection, A Way Out, and Death of the Outsider - all games I’m interested in and don’t own. You can expand it to show you more games and it’ll give you little tips about why they thought you’d like it. It has it shortcomings, but I’d be happier with the Switch store if it was closer to that.

Well hey the app store on Apple's end seems to be doing okay. They definitely need to filter the good stuff to the top and I'd prefer it if they stopped shovelware from flooding it, but Nintendo isn't immune. The Wii had plenty of shovelware. Fixing the storefront to help consumers sort through the good stuff is important.

OMG. Thank you. You just saved me a trip to the stores to pick one of these up for a trip. I'm not bringing the Pro Controller anyway, so whew. I can just charge the Switch from any ol' usb wall adapter, right? I have a 4-port Anker one I use for trips, and it will be really nice to just bring one more cable instead of a whole extra adapter thingie.
Popular systems have always had a problem with high volumes of shovelware. It's just that back in the day, retail space was limited, and the shit-tier games would get cleared out eventually. With digital storefronts, the crap just piles up indefinitely.

If the anker does at least 2A out (it probably does), It'll charge, just more slowly than it does on the official adapter. It also won't charge much/at all while playing it.
Picked up the Fire Emblem Warriors season pass last night because why not. Tharja is so frickin badass.
I do wish you could turn off the whole weapon triangle thing and play it like a regular Warriors game, though. Like, I appreciate how they merge the source material into the warriors formula, but It kinda sucks trying to level up a character when the map you're playing is full of enemies they're weak against. The archer characters are just always so screwed =/
I didn't realize until like a week ago that you can charge up the strong attack for archers, and a fully charged attack will expose a weapon advantaged gauge (half charge is a non-advantaged gauge). You don't have much time to take advantage of it, though, and it's a pain to charge.

Others would probably be better suited to answering your questions than I. I don't use power packs on the go, I either use a usb car adapter or if I'm inside somewhere I'll use the same usb wall adapter that came with the SNES Classic. It has the Nintendo logo stamped on it so what could go wrong?

Not all USB wall adapters are made equal, as I found out. I almost went mad for a week, I did some switching and moving around of various cables around the house, and for some reason my tablet was just not charging. It would charge perfectly if plugged directly into a PS4's USB slot, but any other outlet in the house it would either give an insufficient current warning, or not even recognize it was plugged in in the first place. Between tearing my head out wondering if it was the USB cords or the device or the house electricity itself, I eventually figured it out. Somewhere along the way the adapters all got switched. We have a pile of them all collected from various bits of tech, a lot of them from e-cigs. And a lot of them simply don't have the amperage output to effectively charge a tablet. I eventually found the adapter that specifically came with the tablet, and it charges perfectly now.
To really simplify it, on the adapter should be the output info. Output: 5.0 V, 1.5 A (that's the SNES Classic one that I just happen to have in arms reach). The higher the second number, the better. I don't imagine it's something that'll destroy your Switch if you get it wrong. But for my tablet example, I was using adapters with 0.5 A, and that's just not enough power. It'll take too long to recharge when the unit is off, and it simply won't recharge faster than it's draining when it's on.

The world is so different now that I don't think such a crash would ever happen again. There are storefronts loaded with crap but it's such a normal part of everyone's lives now, along with entertainment technology, that people take it in stride.
I mean, from what I understand, the crash was because there was no quality control and anyone could release a game for any system without going through the manufacturer of the system. That no longer happens. Also every company has lot check and standards you have to pass, even if your game is garbage. You have to have a title screen and "press A to begin." You can't show a black screen for longer than a few seconds so people know the game hasn't crashed. etc. etc.
And games are so ubiquitous that to a much greater extent they're competing against each other rather than other products. In the '80s it was "do I want a video game or a new football or a Def Leppard casette." And the value proposition became worse on the game side because maybe the game would be a buggy half-finished version of pong in spite of what it says on the cover. Nowadays it's "do I want this game or that game or the other game," and you can consult the sum of all human knowledge to find out more about them and if you would like them.

I do not buy that many games and when I do it's based on word of month so I do not have much first hand experience just browsing for new games. But am I wrong in assuming the games highlighted in the news app are more so what Nintendo considers quality games? Like I saw one the other day listing a bunch of RPGs and they all looked pretty decent.
