So, you know, fighting games.....

I don't know where the other one has gone, and I don't want to revive something from so long ago. I figured it was better to make a new one.

So without further ado........WOOHOO! THREAD FOR FIGHTING GAMES!!!

I just got a taste of Soul Calibur 2's Weapon Master mode. I understand now why I was suggested to just GameFAQ my way through it back when I was considering buying the game months ago. :D But anyway, is there any tips you can give to prevent me from doing anything stupid?

I'm sure there's common sense stuff like buying only weapons for players I'm "good" with during my first time through it all. But that's the only thing I can think of.

I've also noticed that there's no "New File" or anything else when I go to the mode in the main menu. All I'm given is "Continue". Is there something to this I don't understand.

And one last thing: I know I'm supposed to be able to pick any character, so that the one I picked at the start isn't the one I'm stuck with throughout it all. However, I haven't seen anywhere I can pick a character again. I'll admit I've only gone through it once, so I don't know if I'm supposed to choose my character every time before getting back into the story, but I was under the impression that whenever I'm on the map, I can change the character I'm using.

Maybe you can summarize everything I just said with "WTF did I just start?!" ;-)

You can have only one save for Weapon Master Mode per memory card/ Xbox.

You change your character from the same menu you use to bring up the shop/change your weapons (press Start)

You should buy only weapons for your favorite/good characters at first, but eventually you'll find the "moneymaker" challenges that you can use to get loads of gold and buy EVERYTHING (which you will, eventually)

Personally I went through the entire thing with Link my first time through. He's a godsend for clearing dungeons.

edit: also, be prepared to be pissed off at the "don't fall down" challenges.

I think the weapons for the characters you use the most are the most expensive you'll have to buy, so change your characters around fairly frequently.

I love Street Fighter Alpha. If Anthology had been for XB, and had Live, I would've gotten the service just for that game.

It's one of the few games I'm confident that I can beat just about anyone at, and no one ever plays it in arcades.

My local arcade just got in GGXX Accent Core. Just played around with it a bit. Seems they balanced out Millia and powered up Testament. Sol is relatively the same, but his grand viper or whatever launches instead of having him shoot upwards with the opponent. There's a cool wall stun added to certain moves, which can add the opportunity to continue a combo. There's a new sort of block, where the sphere turns gold instead of blue (as in perfect guard or whatever its called). And.. I think, I think Order Sol isn't as powerful. Also, the announcer is weak compared to XX/#R/Slash.

    Anyway, :^: guilty gear.

I heard it was coming to Wii.

Raphael. Forward+Y Y Y (GC version, your buttons may vary) will carry you through 80% of Weapon Master. Feel free to mix it up with a side swing every now and then. You can wing the weird bouncing challenges and such.

Guilty Gear on the Wii, sounds interesting. I wonder what else is coming down the line? I hear they are doing an upgraded port of Clash of Ninja 3 for the Wii, but besides that my future fighting game knowledge is weak.

I am amazed they haven't even announced the Bleach DS game for the US market, as they are catching up pretty quick to the point where the game wouldn't be too big of a spoiler.

    Seung Mina all the way.

That's why I hate the AC version of Soul Calibur 2. She's not in it.

And a local arcade has GGXX, but the cabinet's all kinds of broken. Sucks, since I'd love to play it on an arcade cabinet.

Sagat just fucks my shit up on any difficulty or speed. Always has. Either I perfect him or get my ass kicked.

I used to use turbo 7 as a training exercise. Play a few matches faster than thought and when you turned it back down you got some real matrix shit going.

I suppose it's a good thing I started playing SC2 with Link, and then moved on to Raphael. :D

Besides following objectives, is there the potential for penalties such as not earning as much gold/exp. as you could have each round? According to one of the guides on GameFAQ, when you face Voldo for the first time and you have to hit him at least 20 times in 20 seconds, if you make him do a ring out you'll get the exp but you won't get the gold. So do you know of any other possible instances were something like this might happen?

It's the speed of the AI that makes it difficult... The final boss has this instant reaction to my proximity and a whole lot of really hard to block high-low combos.

That and my timing on counters is a little hit and miss at the moment since this is my first DOA.

Yeah, the boss is really Ninja Gaiden esque in terms of forcing you to learn how to play a specific way.

Unlike the other DOA bosses, she's a featherweight, so all the best juggles should hit her.
She likes to crouchdash into offensive hold, so mid attacks will start the new stun game.
The floor is electric, which encourages players to learn the new ground bounce juggle game.

That said, move that cover a lot of ground like the dragon kick or many people's running triple kick seems to get her every time...

Once SNK starts getting into fighters with their Neo Geo VC releases, you'll be in fighter heaven!

KOF, Fatal Fury games, Samurai Shodown, some weirdo Double Dragon fighting game (not a brawler like its brothers, and much better than that cartoon based SNES Double Dragon fighter), Mark of the Wolves, Art of Fighting (less likely on VC with that Wii anthology coming out), Last Blade, and I'm sure many more.

Thanks for clarifying, I almost had a heart attack! If they get LB or LB2 on VC, I don't know if I'd actually buy disc-based games again. The possibility of online play makes me swoon!

At least Nintendo is actively courting 2d games, as opposed to Sony of America trying to keep them from getting to us. Bring me my 2d fighters, damn it!
