Aye, that similarly intialled but less well known Square Enix franchise is known as FiFa.
That causes it to get confused with some kind of sporting body, but that's their problem.
SE really need to look into their pretty decent catalog of off beat fighting games. I could really go for a TOBAL or a Bushido Blade right about now.
The fighting game FF doesn't really get me excited, my only experience with it was back when it was a shameless and swallow SF ripoff. If it got any better, well, good for them.
Besides the two mentioned, the only other fighting game franchise I'd really like to see return is Rival Schools. Oh, and Street Fighter of course. Alpha 4 or regular 4, take your pick.
Ibut it also mentioned that Fatal Fury Battle Archives vol. 1 is being released the first week of August. I asked at Gamestop, but they had no date. I checked Gamestop.com, but they have no entry. I checked Gamefly, they list it as hitting August 10.
I mention this because pretty much the exact same thing happened to me with Art of Fighting Anthology; with Gamefly seeming to have a clue about the date for the game prior to anyone else (and getting it in sooner too). Hopefully they are correct again (and SNK's letter is correct), and the game will be out soon . . .
Not like we needed any additional confirmation, but the blurb on their Fatal Fury message board description has said "shipping this August" since late April/early May, and now it's:
FATAL FURY BATTLE ARCHIVES Vol. 1
Discuss upcoming FATAL FURY collection featuring FF1, FF2, FF3 and FF SPECIAL. Shipping August 7th for the PS2.
So technically we should already be able to find it in stores, but Gamestop is acting like they haven't even heard of it. Beyond that I only find reports of Game Crazy saying the 10th as well. Not that bad of a wait, but I'm still thinking about hunting for it some time today.
There was that sequel to Bushido Blade, I think it was on PS2, but it may have been on PS1.
I don't know if the Bushido Blade games have done well enough for S-E to do another.. I'm not sure.
Are you talking about Kengo?
Man, that actually had really deep combat.
Kengo was actually the first PS2 game I ever got. I can appreciate that the characters were.. more.. realistic -but they just weren't really memorable. I loved to use the chick though.
By the way I'm not sure if anyone cares but Buy.com is also selling Fatal Fury Battle Archives Vol. 1 for the same price as Art of Fighting Anthology so you can get that for $7.39 as well after Google Checkout. I just did that myself, so I guess I won't be hunting for it today.
ebgames.com now lists Fatal Fury as coming out next week, although buy.com looks better since they appear to have it in and are cheaper. Gamefly shipped mine yesterday, so I'm hoping it will be in tomorrow:
@ cj iwakura - I believe the corrected version of CC:DS is going to get shipped to stores, but I don't know how you would tell the difference between the bugged version and the new version.
@slash - that's good news about the Wii fighting stick!
GET ON THIS RIGHT NOW!!! Super Battle Opera Live Feed. Basically the greatest event in fighting games so far this year being broadcast live from Japan.
They're in a break right now between KoF '98 and Hyper Street Fighter II: Anniversary Edition, but games will start back up shortly.
It'll be great once SNK fighters start showing up on the system. Also, Guilty Gear Accent Core. Which hopefully we'll be able to use this with.
I quite like the look of this. I think I'd like to play Accent Core but it's doubtful that the game will make it here and I'm afraid modding will resulting in a bricked Wii.
What I haven't been able to ascertain is what kind of input this stick is using. Does it extend from the Wii-remote, use GameCube ports or utilise the Bluetooth directly (it looks pretty wireless but cables can often be at least partially removed from pictures)? This is an important consideration.

Well, you're in a for a treat.
Aksys Games is publishing Guilty Gear Accent Core in north america, and it's shipping on 8/31. No importing or modding necessary!
As for the controller, it would appear to be based on Bluetooth. Meaning, you won't be plugging in a wiimote for the wireless connectivity.
I don't know this for certain. But it would be my guess. Anyone able to tell what those little blue LED-looking lights along the top of it mean?
edit: Those blue LED-looking things appear to actually be switches; which probably means that they're simply 'rapid fire' switches for each buttons, would be my guess.

I bet they are switches for the buttons, also bluetooth BLEGH!
Well I could be wrong about it being BT-based. It might be wiimote-plugin based. I can't find any official info on that. It seems like it would make things easier to have it plugin based.
Also, yeah, i looked at some more images of the stick; those appear to be switches for each button, probably for rapid fire purposes. Rapid fire switches are nice for stuff like shmups

well even still if it plugs into the wiimote it's still bluetooth and man not good for 2d fighters.

Why?
There's no lag at all in SFII Turbo on the Classic Con. There's no lag in Virtua Fighter 5 on the PS3. There's no lag at all in the wiimote's various functions or the sixaxis.
There won't be lag in this instance. What's the concern?

Anything bluetooth has a bad habit of desynching randomly for a few seconds if you have other wireless devices around. There is no telling when it happens either and there is nothing you can do to fix it.

That sounds like it would be a problem for all games, not just specifically 2D fighters. Have you personally had any issues with your wireless connections for your controllers on the Wii or PS3? I haven't had any syncing issues at all so far.
I don't think that this controller will have any more issues than a Wiimote or Sixaxis..
Are you personally concerned for a certain reason? I mean, have you been having a lot of trouble with your wiimotes or something lately?
So, I got Fatal Fury Battle Archives vol 1 in yesterday and played it a little bit last night. Definitely brought back memories, and reminded me how much more I liked these games versus Art of Fighting, gameplay wise. Like the Art of Fighting Anthology though, it's interesting to play each game right after one another, in order, to see the progression in a more dramatic fashion. I forgot about the jump in visual quality that Fatal Fury 3 brought, compared to the previous ones. Definitely happy with this one. :^::^:
Does anyone have any experience with buying something as heavy as an arcade stick from play-asia? As in you know about the cost and transit times?
I'm paranoid about how accurate Gamestop's date is for it, and I need to get one here in time for Smash, just on the offchance that its usable.
I got my Hori Fighting Stick 2 from them they didn't add a lot for the weight of the stick and Play-Asia has had very quick transit for me (order on Thursday/Friday, at my door on Monday).
I don't know where this discussion has gone so far but does anyone know if they are planning on making a fighting game in the style of Iron Pheonix anytime soon? I only played the online demo but the idea of a 16 player 3D fighter is really awesome and I'd like to see a next gen version.

But that came out years ago. FF V and FF VI! :P
har har!
But seriously, everyone knows that the 'FF' acronym actually stands for Fatal Fury. Obviously. I mean, sheesh, it's Fatal Fury.

What the fuck does the concept team at SE do all day, anyway? Why are they not conceiving such ways to press awesomeness to a disc?

Looks like there are still some stuff out there I'm gonna have to be buying...

Otherwise, if you're going to order online, I'd suggest using Buy.com with the $10 Google Checkout discount:

Never heard of the second one either - doesn't look like they changed much though except some very half asses adventure mode.
Then again, I'm not entirely sure I want to buy that game again.
I love reading all the references from every series imaginable, but the story... ech.
Oh, and count me in the 'Alpha 4' camp. Or SF4 with Alpha characters, whatever it takes.

Been really looking forward to finally start to learn a real fighting game and see what the fuss is about.
The only trouble is convincing some friends to join in.
