    I got CvS2 at a yard sale for like $15, a week after I bought CvS1 at Wal-Mart for $20.

Had I known, I may have saved myself $20.

I got CVS2 on ebay pretty easily, for about $20 Buy it Now.

I got MVC2 out of dumb luck several years ago.. but I never got into the game, unfortunately.

I snapped it up when I saw it for $50 used at GameStop. THen I discovered that I wasn't a huge fan of the system. Ah well, still got it for the occasional nights people who don't really play fighting games want to do something, and since I suck at it they actually have a shot at beating me. Unlike, say, SF3 or KOF2006 or VF4 or T5 or...

Sometimes I think the hardest part about making fighting games popular again is that the fighting game community is so ridiculously hardcore. And, on top of that, a lot of these guys are so noob-unfriendly it boggles the mind. Game companies have to release complex games because otherwise the largest part of the audience won't buy it, but at the same time this creates barriers to new players.

Yeah I know, it seems like a catch 22.

However, it is possible to make a deep fighting game that appeals to casual gamers. The most successful ones are Soul Calibur, Smash Bros, maybe Tekken, and.. maybe that's it.

If you can mash buttons and then watch your character do all kinds of cool flips and crazy shit, then casual gamers will be able to enjoy it. They may even decent strategies. That's how Soul Calibur remains so popular across the board. You can just do various things and have fun, or you can dig deeper and become competitive.

Smash Bros uses the awesomeness of its character roster and its sheer premise of battling famous characters against each other to win its audience. Plus, a lot of moves are simple to do, even though you can have very competitive play.

Stuff like King of Fighters and Guilty Gear, though.. these games.. the only people that buy them are the people that play them.. the only people that play them are the very niche, very hardcore 2d fighting fans. If Arc or SNK were to make the games more accessible, they may be doing so at the risk of losing the only people that still buy the games. At least Guilty Gear is so flashy that some newcomers to the genre have at least given it a shot. Even if they prefer the ol' SFII standbys of fireball/fireball/dragonpunch tactics.

SNK is bringing in some new people with the MI/2006 games, but those still rely very much on traditional techniques for moves and some strategies. I love 06 though. great game. And, SNK is keeping the main 2d series alive and kickin' to please its hardcore 2d-only fans.

the new tekken 6 character is seriously, so, so awesome.

    arcadia0710-09l.jpg

seriously, possibly the best tekken character ever.

someone at tz translated his description:
    bob

called a genius at martial arts, with his toned body and handsome face he was very popular. However unable to beat opponent of larger sizes he became determined to engineer his body to increase power and weight while maintaining speed. For this bob disappears from the fighting arena.

Few years later after completing his body engineering everyone around him is shocked at his appearance. Although people are not taking bob seriously anymore bob himself is confident about his new found strength. To test his new found power he enters the king of iron fist tournament 6.

    man, namco is just awesome.

So, guys, the UFS card game is surpsingly full of kickass. They're coming out with a DarkStalkers set this November, and their SNK sets (SNK Playmore and Fortune & Glory) are fucking awesome. I can't speak to the Street Fighter expansions as I've not seen a lot of those cards but the Ryu/Akuma starter thing is pretty sweet.

Is Samurai Showdown 5 out on PS2 in NA? I haven't seen any copies, anywhere, and that perturbs me. Then again, I'll be making a Play Asia order to get ACE3 and I might throw in KOFXI, so if there's a reason for me to get a SamSho game I'm down for that.

I think Samurai Shodown V was Xbox exclusive, at least it was here.

I hope KOFXI gets released here; it's gorgeous.

So...what makes you think he's "American"?

You're right though. He's North American:
    Bob’s Tekken 6 profile

After losing three consecutive times to Takeru Kobayashi, Bob, a former Canadian Mountie, slipped into a funk, pushing away the support of his friends and family little by little with his new crutch, brewski.

Bob became a regular at a local bar, drinking night after night in a private booth, and no matter how many drinks he downed, he never seemed to get inebriated. It wasn’t long before other patrons and the bartender asked him to participate in the regional beer drinking competition. Though a little reluctant at first, Bob participated and won. Becoming an overnight sensation, Bob finally felt complete, finding the fame he once sought as a Mountie and a Hot Dog Eating Champion.

Bob’s life changed forever while he was in the middle of beer drinking tournament south of the border—members of a military group, calling themselves the Tekken Force, seized the building, putting down anyone who dared to stop them. Armed with a pitcher of beer in one and a closed fist, Bob joined the battle. With each punch thrown and each kick blocked, Bob’s training as a Mountie came back in a swift rush of excitement.

When the battle had nearly ended, only Bob and one Tekken Force member remained. Their tango was brief, and when it was over, Bob stood victorious, but not before learning the name of the man responsible: Jin Kazama.

The announcement of Jin’s 6th King of Iron Fist Tournament soon found Bob’s ears. With thoughts of fame and revenge on his mind, Bob set out to win the tournament and avenge his fans.

Gamasutra had an interview with Marvel's VP of Interactive Media, Justin Lambros about EA's new Marvel fighter, and the guy had some words about Capcom's Marvel games:
GS:You should release the Marvel Superheroes games, or Marvel Vs. Capcom on Xbox Live Arcade.

JL: Yeah, those are among my all time favorites. I’m a huge 2D fighting fan.

    Yeah, me too.

JL: Yeah, the Marvel Vs. Capcom stuff has a definite close place in my heart, so we definitely wanna see that stuff live on.

    Yes. Get on it!

    JL: (laughs) Yes, your majesty!

May be hope for MVC2 on Live/PSN !

Oh man, if that's even half true then I'm giving Tekken another chance. Playing as a fat-ass Canadian Mountie would be awesome.

But you bring up an interesting point. I've known for years that many people refer to that character who's name I can't even spell let alone try and pronounce as Bob. Could Namco be taking a shot at their fans with this new character? And will it change anything?

Maybe SC4 will get some decent new characters. SC3's were a little lacking imo.

Well, that's easy enough to explain; It's on the Wii.

While I'm sure that the bug fixes are in the PS2 US version as well, the JAP version was buggy as shit.

Also, it gives me an excuse to buy the Hori stick. The game could be worse for all I know or care. It probably won't be, it'll probably be the same or better. The fact of the matter is that I don't have a good fighting stick for the PS2, and there's no point in buying one for a dying system, (unless I get one cheap enough, that is) while the Wii has a ton of games coming out that could use the stick to great advantage.

Oh, okay, I thought there was something more specific/technical. I would have no problem picking up the Wii version, but I'll be playing this on my PS3, which I already have a stick for as it is, plus I don't have to wait for the Wii version. It will be interesting to see if there are any substantial differences though . .

Indeed. I've heard impressions that say the included waggle mode is decent and that it plays very well on the CC. I'll probably not play this on the Wii for quite some time, hopefully I'll remember it when I see the Hori stick for cheap.

From all the reviews I've read, the XFPS isn't so great with mouse support but it's perfect for translating Dual Shocks into the 360 (minus headset, guide button support of course)
