Computer Crashing - Hissing Sound?!?

So lately my computer has been crashing while I'm playing games. I've only played two games recently, Fate and Deus Ex, and both of them crashed on me randomly, although Fate did it much more quickly. I formatted my computer to see if that was the problem, but it didn't help. I also installed a number of drivers for my GeForce FX 5950 Ultra to no avail.

I have the following:

AMD Athlon XP 2400+ on an ASUS A7NVM400 mainboard
768 MB of RAM (mismatched 133MHz and 166MHz but it's never been a problem before)
GeForce FX 5950 Ultra 256 MB

EDIT: I just fired up Fate to see what would happen and I noticed a hissing sound coming from my computer as soon as it finished loading the splash screen. I was able to play the game for about 20 seconds before it crashed.

Why the hell would there be a hissing sound emanating from my computer while playing a low-requirement game? Any ideas?

Garry: I know you gentlemen have been through a lot, but when you find the time I'd rather not spend the rest of the winter TIED TO THIS FUCKING COUCH!
