Oh I know, I ran out of them before I could get the kill
Bring a stack of bugs with you as well. I can't seem to get them to autocraft, but that's effectively 13 pods with you without any stops back at camp.
Yeah I just need to use them more conservatively
It's just frustrating. What gets me is Rath bouncing around the map before I can even aggro him. I would run up to slinger range and he would already be taking off to some far-off zone and this repeated for like the first 10 minutes of the hunt

Well, if you can get back to camp, you can just restock. TBF, I never ever remember this myself. With a few hundred bugs in stock, you feel less bad about flashing everything you see.
Now poop. Christ, don't get me started on poop and how much I go through. It's just poop, can't we collect it? The amount of food hunters eat, my god, I mean there must be the motherlode SOMEWHERE.
I might be converting to the church of sword and shield. The move set is super easy, but man those stamina drains and knock outs.
Also anjy and beej in the ancient forest tempered with two faint was ridiculous. I only took 2 of five due to some serious chain jackassery.
sns is fine but it's windows for hits are not large. the charged backdash is so important to your damage output that whiffing those or even putting them on bad hitboxes is pretty devastating, and personally i feel very little control over where that ability goes. like if you couldn't change direction in midair on the spirit helm breaker.
A rocket-greatsword won a contest to be included. Some of the losers we won't get were a greatsword that looks like a castle, a hammer made of an amberised vespoid, a bow made of bonsai, a scary dentist-gunlance, and a couple of switch-axes and charge-blades with folding insect-wings and elytra.
Handler is no Guildmarm (the ultimate quest giver) but she's enough of a big dork that I find her likable enough.
She's cute without being overbearing about it.
That's basically all NPCs here. None are to the standards of the 4U crew, but they're acceptable.
Seriously, Generations was such a backslide on the NPC and plot department, and World isn't much better. I miss the Caravan.
I probably shouldn’t even bother, because all of this shit is super subjective, but the monster hunter series is pretty notorious for its shit characters and plotting. I mean, Capcom even sort of acknowledges this by not even bothering to name any of the characters in the mh universe.

Hey, right there with you. Just made a support armor set (Mushroomancer, wide-range, speed eating with paralysis sword) which I'm gonna take to lower level hunts so I don't just completely decimate things but still make sure everyone stays alive.
Edit: Speed-eating doesn't seem to work for teammates.

I don't think that set is confined to low rank though. I was thinking about that build myself because even at hr34 I still see people rolling up without armor or Demon drug active. I don't expect the mega versions but come on people I know for a fact that by now you can grow all the necessary materials in the ancient tree. Using that build you can force everyone to heal and buff. You will give up some damage obviously but if you count the amount of time for someone who gets carted to eat /buff/run back I bet you end up ahead in dps.
Once I unlock my first Tempered Investigation (which I have not yet) will I get more by doing the investigations, or is the only way to do them just exploring more? Because the grind of looking for tempered evidence may be the worst grind of all
My understanding is that tempered investigations are unlocked specifically by finding tempered evidence, but obviously existing tempered investigations generate a bunch of evidence so if you have spare time make sure to get all the scales and footprints and gashes and etc.
Specifically, I heard this in reference to absolutely making sure to have a pile of investigations before clearing the one Tempered Kirin you get for free.

Mostly just huntin' monsters.

I just posted about this seconds ago, but you don’t need to run around with mushroomancer on. Just use it to buff yourself at the beginning of a hunt and then swap to some more combat-oriented gear.
Oops, never mind. I didn’t see the part about wide range. I’m a dumbass.

Pink Rath down and only carted once because I got greedy! I'm starting to pay attention to armor skills now and I'm wondering if any other hammer bros have any advice on which set pieces I should probably be looking at the the immediate future since I'm still wearing a mix of bone and Zorah stuff with the affinity slide gloves you can make from that one animal with the helmet head

Hammer users should target attack up, weakness exploit, high grade ear plugs, and handicraft.
Bazelgeuse helm and waist give 2 points of hge each.
Various pieces of the of the kushala set give handicraft. The leggings from the shroud or death set (whatever the one that makes you look like a grim reaper is called) have 2 points of handicraft, too.
You can get weakness exploit from the eyepatch, Rath chest piece, and the Teostra gloves (and from a lot of other sources, too).
Attack up comes from the dober chest and leggings, and nerg waist.
Just mix and match that stuff with your decos until you’ve got something useable. Remember, hge isn’t useful until you have it maxed.
Also, the best two hammers are definitely the diablos and nerg ones. Diablos has higher raw but shit affinity, and you really need the elementless skill to truly optimize it. Nerg is better for crit builds and has stuff that makes it extra useful against elder dragons. Crit fix plus the 2-piece Rath set bonus is pretty neat against any of the eds with the nerg weapon.
You can probably just wear use the Zorah set + Zorah hammer all the way through the story (although it will start to feel a little long in the tooth towards the end) btw.
OH ALSO, handicraft is useless on the nerg hammer.

Oh, I see. In that case, should I... be looking for evidence in the double Bazzy mission, then? That might make things easier I guess

I'll ease up on worrying about it too much until the post game. I have the Zorah set + Hammer and I'll most likely just mix whatever Attack up pieces . I do like these gloves that give affinity when you slide but if I'm ever in an area without slopes it's kind of a waste of a trait. I'll play around with it, thanks!
So I captured a LR Flesh Dog for the Smart Biologist. Suddenly he wants a Beetlejuice :bigfrown:
It also unlocked a 5-star LR quest, to hunt a Kirin. That is an absolute bastard; my Lance skills are not good enough, I think I need another weapon for that.
Under the Events is a fun 6-star quest where you are in a arena with a Great Jagras, a Great Girros and a Dodofroglizard. I equipped the plunderblade on my Palico, let them fight among each other, grabbing all the broken bits (and even using the Gilly Mantle if they got too interested in me). After a while they are quite weak; you can dragonator them, and finish them off. But the best is: completing that event quest gives you decorations (I believe at least one blue and twp to three whites). Which is fantastic! (And it also counts for the Great Girros limited quest)

I'm still only 2/3 on the elders (so HR14) and have seen tempered tracks while doing investigations and expeditions to get the elder tracks.
I guess I just unlocked a Meowlotov cocktail for my Palico?
...
If I knew this was a thing, I would have called my cat Jason or Jake Jortles or something.
Ran into the Puke guy while looking for a moss swine. I beat him up but good even cut off hus tail but a Rathian kept huntblocking me. Also it ran to a point on the map I couldnt find. It's above a cave full of feylenes but I could not find a way up there.
I have a podcast now. It's about video games and anime!Find it here.
...So, what's the point of elderseal if the weapons don't do any damage anyways?
First try on Teostra, have Nergi bow (finally - thing refused to give me tails for so long). And... 0 damage. 0 damage. Every-fucking-where 0 damage. I can hit for like 30 damage (total) if I nail the face (and not the mane, because that takes 0 damage)? This seems... dumb.
Good lord. Not only is it the one of the best looking weapon skins in the game, but the Garon Rifle is damn sick in use. Multiple multi-shot ammos, and insane reloading with stacked reload mods. Basically running around the field shotgunning everything in sight.
So I couldn't take down an HR Blos with a bow, but I sure did beat the hell out of Legiana with one. That wasn't even fair. Guess I'll be farming you go make the Legi bow for sure.

Hunting HR Rathalos in ancient Forest last night. Spawned with a Rathian and Anjanath on the map which isn't ideal but whatever. Hunt down the los, fight a bit, flash him to the ground, line up a SAED and bam, Beetlejuice crashes in and knocks me down in my back swing. So I back off watch them fight and pick up any bits they knock off. Beetlejuice goes away so I get some more hits in on the Los and as it leaves the Rathian jumped me. The whole hunt went like that. Took 45 minutes to get my kill. The last part being just me swinging wildly in the middle of all three hoping to finish the hunt. It was both infuriating and hilarious.
Edit: also the Rathalos CB looks great, all running around with a Rathalos face on my back.
I'm not sure I've ever come close to failing on time except with my cap tempered black diablos in 15 minutes investigation (and even that's a coinflip because if it loses the turf war with a regular diablos its super easy to followup cap).
...damn, I didn't mean to kill that Barroth on a capture quest. I certainly didn't mean to do it in like 5 minutes.
Nice humblebrag about being too stronk.
I'm just saying most womens vaginas are too shallow, for this DEEPS!
I do have to say it was nice doing an SOS investigation against tempered Kush and having people bring their freaking A games. Like pots, aoe heals, and chain stuns. It's probably because to get to 50 HR you have to already have a sense whats up.

This is cool. It never occurred to me that you could equip a mushroomancer set, buff yourself and then swap back to your main set and go kill shit.
I really don't understand that design choice unless having a bunch of players in such a big area was a problem for lag or something.
I have done that build in 4u.
