Deflect Melee is similar to Wary Fighter on slow bulky units with Vantage. I suppose that they still get their special charge from the attack, but it's kind of a sidegrade since deflect melee can completely undermine special activations. It's not uncommon for alfonse to initiate, eat one basic attack and a token follow up attack that only hits for 3-5 damage despite being bolstered by moonbow, and then be standing around with bonfire charged and both vantage and brazen skills online.
After that initial combat puts him in vantage range, Alfonse will be attacking first regardless of whether it's the player phase or enemy phase. That means that any enemy follow-up attacks are guaranteed to be consecutive attacks. This reduces the damage of the second strike to peanuts even if a special boosts it.
The idea with deflect melee on slow melee units is so you can initiate and then greatly blunt their double attack. The effect is so strong it can even work against triangle disadvantage.
Then both brazens and vantage are active, and maybe a special...
It does wonders against triangle disadvantaged specials.
Got another 5* ares. This one is neutral compared to my original - atk.
Was originally going to give out his brazen atk/def but there is the little voice saying merge

I say merge. You can give out brazen at 4*. No sense wasting a pre-promoted 5* for that :P
Feels weird having only 2 banners active. Up to 270 orbs. If they don't wow me with the next banner or legendary hero, it all goes towards Legendary Hector next month!
If Hector and Celica end up being the king and queen of the new era of power creep, like Lyn and Ike were before them, I'll dump all 300 orbs towards one of them and hopefully still get a free pull of the other. Just glad it isn't the shit show of a legendary banner for once!

I think I am most curious to see what Veronica ends up looking like. Also, the inevitable Voting Gauntlet where they release a banner and make her non-CYL form summonable for the first time

Worst case scenario they are just physical damage manaketes using Beast stones... which isn't such a bad thing, it just doesn't give them niche to fill. That is unless they start creating super passives like "on even turns +1 movement and bonus damage to movement/weapon type" or something mean like that in exchange for having beast typing that can be exploited by later beast slaying weapons.

For some reason, I'm thinking colorless mage.
I don't think so. I don't see them adding something like that, at least right now...
Specials for beast units is what allows them to transform. Their countdown will tick with any unit action. The beast stone has two different affects., one when the unit is not in special and the other when the unit is "transformed"
Something like x gives def +2, if special active, def+2 and...
Or infantry that can move 3 spaces or ignore terrain
Special activation is definitely a way to handle it, with some interesting pros and cons. Assuming it counts down every single turn, with an extra count for each round of combat, this means you can speed it up with possible slayer forges on the beast stone, pulse skills, and of course Heavy/Flashing Blade, Breaths, etc.
Transforming then means gaining really large stat increases / movement speed / other bonuses, because you give up actually having a special (Aether, Moonbow, Galeforce, AoE, Shields, whatever). It probably also means a non-inheritable special per character.
That, or their weapon provides them a "second special" counter, in which case they can have a normal special too like everyone else. Incidentally there is a perfect space right under the current special counter and the health counter on the unit sprite interface for a transformation counter to be.

Yea that was my thinking in that you can still get bonus CD from things like heavy blade. I can still see them inheriting but have it limited to beast types. Basically like how you can't inherit a breath to non Dragons. You could also have varied beast specials similar to the breaths. Adds + CD but does this. Or adds counter or something. You could probably add that as a weapon effect also, but I like the thought of deciding to have a non transformer vs a traditional special
I mean you can have a special set of beast specials like they have for staves.

Is CYL2 actually coming tomorrow? I was still thinking it was that September banner and this was just like a little advanced notice. But now I'm not so sure...
Makes me wonder if they are doing another free draw. Would explain why it could erase the other
I think for sure they are. I actually assumed they would from the start. But surprised they are getting rid of the free CYL1 hero. It's just one hero - throw new players a bone :P
Ugh, my barracks have basically been full for ages and I've put off clearing them out, but I guess I really gotta do it today.

Mine used to be full but I've been scrounging up feathers for emergency merges a lot lately so I'm sitting around 900ish/1100. Which means some fodder sources a bit lower than I'd like, but there's also some skills I just haven't been foddering much either.
My team wasn't quite high enough merged to consistently get matched against opponents with high enough scores to get me into tier 20 outside of Earth Season. I'm hoping that enough people are apathetic about confirming bonus unit kills to push me over the edge to being able to enter tier 20 off season.

Michalis can run a similar build. Watch him shrug off Black Luna.

So randomly decided, hey why not try again for a 4*. Another 5* Ares.
Might have to try again

Ares is ridiculous. DC, Vantage, Drac Aura. Genuinely absurd.

I think they're either gonna make him an armored sword unit or an infantry axe unit using the Wolf Beil.

If they do this I really hope there's some kind of visual indicator, because I never bother to check stats for odd/even wave units.
Edit: Ideally there would be a sprite change, but even a buff/debuff icon would work.
that and halloween skins.
