I dunno why people keep saying "just like every other far cry then" to this stuff about 5.
Am I just nuts, because I don't remember anything of this nature in 4? There was barely any wacky story in that at all. Pagan Min was exuberant and that was pretty much it.
That's why 5 feels like such a step back for me. Blood Dragon and Primal are where the dumb jokes went, the next numbered one was supposed to continue from where 4 took us.

I kinda feel like Ubisoft's "we're a multiracial dev team of differentiating beliefs" message is getting to the point where they're using it as a shield for never taking an actual stance on some of the things their games are trying to address.

You can say "fuck racists", Ubisoft.
no because then racists won't buy their game
they want the racist dollars
Then that basically punches a hole in their multiracial/differentiating beliefs stance, since they're trying to cater to everyone to make a profit instead of having morals.
It never ceases to amaze me indie devs are willing to lose out on purchases from assholes more than giant Triple Aaaaay teams are, though I guess it's part of how messed up Triple Aaaaaay is where they need All Of The Money to not consider 5 million copies of Tomb Raider a "failure."

I mean, they're also a multiracial dev team of differentiating beliefs
That just, incidentally, has nothing to do with the fact that they want racists to buy their games because their money still spends

See they want gamers to buy their game and if they speak out against racists, then gamers won't buy their game and
uh
no no don't read any further into that, everything's fine

"Lots of different people with different beliefs made these games" is essentially a toothless feel good statement from the word go, because those developers aren't the last say in how their games get made or sold, it's a fucking huge company
MaddocI'm Bobbin Threadbare, are you my mother?Registered Userregular
At some point that statement comes from a place where people think about who is making games, and maybe they picture a dozen of so people; you've got a couple programmers, a couple art people, etc etc.

In fact most workplaces have rules in place saying you can't put your personal beliefs into your work
There were developers from many backgrounds involved in making the game, black people, gay people, people who are in white supremacist death cults

I guess I'm a dumbass for initially believing that Ubisoft would have the extreme courage it takes to actually make white supremacists bad guys but fuck me right.
I thought the game might actually have something to say about religious extremism as well as racism, but if the game does indeed tiptoe around racism being bad it sure as hell isn't going to have any nerve when it comes to saying anything about religion.
Ubisoft's games have sort of a nihilistic quality thats only gotten more pronounced
Some south park "both sides are bad actually" shit
Well they make South Park games so...

Far Cry 3 onward is really fun gameplay and bad writing
They're bad at serious stuff, they're bad at comedy, they're bad at trying to mix the two, it's just all bad except the part where you put bullets into people and/or bears
Michael Mando is such a good actor that it tricked everyone into thinking Far Cry games are well-written
His character Nacho in Better Call Saul is really good and very well acted by him.
I'm eager to see where he goes next season.

FC1 was b-movie schlock complete with a mad scientist and bullshit mutants.
2 was completely uninteresting and I actually don't remember a damn thing about the story.
3 had one exceptional performance in a sea of utterly unlikable characters, to which the game promptly squanders about halfway through.
Blood Dragon is intentional schlock that probably thinks it's more clever than it actually is.
And I've never played any other of the games but I'm sure they're in good company.
I thought 4 was better about a few things than 3, though it's a low bar to clear, but the end of it is all so steeped in "every side in this is assholes and you'll feel bad about supporting any of them" that it leaves a bad taste in your mouth

I've got zero chill about it and I am beyond upset something like that was produced and released
I know a lot of good people probably worked on it but my feelings towards Ubi and the dev leaders are, at the moment, vehemently negative
Yeah I'm into it if the game ends up...doing something with it, I guess
As it is it's just "WHOA HEY ISN'T THIS SHOCKING"

Some south park "both sides are bad actually" shit
And not literally thousands of people
In fact most workplaces have rules in place saying you can't put your personal beliefs into your work
Look, when you employ as many people as Ubisoft Montreal, probably?
I probably wouldn’t be playing it anyway but yeah
The dlc looked kinda goofy fun, aside from the Vietnam stuff
I’d be okay with adapting Far Cry to more fantastical settings

Oh shit I didn’t realize that was him.
Yeah he does a very good job on BCS.
don't even get me started on this "Through the Looking Glass" shit
it's all about it!
I didn't realize it was him for awhile either and I think that is a testament to just how good he is.
Okay but White Rabbit is still a good song
