Well, we assume. She's mad as a hornet throughout part 4, and Joseph apparently had a lot of explaining to do when he came back from Morioh with an unrelated baby in tow.

RE5 episode 8 update

Edit: "You have nothing what the hell" oh gosh Pat it's a mystery
Okay, so, I missed the first 2 episodes of of this, sadly, but as this sub's resident Mesoamerieaboo, I wanna use this as an opportunity to talk about and teach you all about cool shit relating to the Maya and Mesoamerican history, given the game's basis. I'll mostly be covering shit from the first 2 episodes for now since I missed those:
To begin with, the Mask of Death itself isn't actually Maya: It's pretty distinctly Mixtec.
The Mixtec were one of two major Mesoamerican groups in what's today the mexican states of Oaxaca and Guerrero alongside the Zapotec, who were mostly towards the east in Oaxaca, and were more politically dominant in the Classic period (200-800ad, the same time period the Maya were at their height). The Mixtec were mainly in the western portions of Oaxaca and in Guerrero, and were more politically dominant in the Postclassic (850-900AD to 1521 AD), especially the first half of which, where a warlord by the name of 8-Deer-Jaguar-Paw conquered and unified nearly the entire southern Oaxaca/Guerrero region into an empire. He was eventually overthrown and killed in an ironic twist of fate where the one member of his enemies/his family who he left alive rallied a bunch of city-states against him, though his empire would stay intact enough to be one of the few states to be able to resist Aztec expansionism centuries later
Anyways, the Mixtec today are well known for their fine mosaic turquoise masks and other works of jewellery, much like the Mask of Death in Marlow Briggs. In fact, the Mask of Death seems to be EXPLICITLY based on this mixtec mask. I have lots of photos of rad-ass jeweleru, sculpture, and luxury art, as well as more info on Latin american civilization here, by the way.
To continue with the cultural mangling, you also see an Aztec sun stone on a few surfaces and in the combo training area, and a lot of the Pyramids don't look particularly Maya, and the ones that do are clearly based cities many hundreds of miles and years apart (such as this and this ). Lastly, some of the giant stone heads don't even look specifically Mesoamerican.
Those snafus aside, the Mask mentions Xibalba, the Maya underworld; and the names in the combo list are also of Maya deities: Kukulkan is a a Maya feathered serpent god analogous to Quetzalcoatl, Chaac is a rain diety, also analogous to the Aztec deity Tlaloc, etc. Your UI/healthbar is also based on a sculpture of the head of the most famous king of the Maya city of Palenque. The most impressive reference was the mask's "may you choke on torrents of pus" which is a reference to how in certain Maya myths, such as what's in the Popol Vuh/The tale of the Hero Twins, one of the obstacles you must face is a river of pus, and one of the rulers of the levels of Hell (It's sort of video-game esque) caused your body to inflate with pus. As a final note, I obligatorily gotta give /u/2BF-Woolie some flak for calling the Maya a tribe in the first video: multiple Maya cities would have been in the top 20 largest cities in the world if not in the top 10, they had a written language and books, complex societies with social classes and state goverments, large marketplaces and fine painted murals, etc. Calling them "tribes". would be like calling the Ancient Greeks tribes.
I think this is where I'll leave my infodumping for this episode, but I'll be doing posts like this for each part of the let's play... hopefully not as long as this one each time. If you wanna learn more about Mesoamerican history, check out the prior posts of mine on this sub I did about Mesoamerican history (sort of wonder if I'll get a flair if I keep going at it like the friendcast timestamp guy did):
You should go and read the actual post (it is Reddit though so I wouldn't blame you for avoiding that) because it has a bunch of links to pics and more info, and the dude has written a bunch more about stuff like Kotal Khan, Aztec God Of War, and more
OK, so, 8-Deer's brothers and party-members were 12 Earthquake “Bloody Jaguar” and 9 Flower “Copalball with Arrow”.
The germanic tribes also had a couple of kingdoms, but you wouldn't normally call all of them "the germanic tribe". Calling the Maya a tribe is weird because they were pretty divided.
The greek tribes also took some time to build a shared identity.
Huh, I wonder if the angel name format in Kill Six Billion Demons was at least somewhat inspired by that Mixtec naming convention.

So in Banner Saga Pat missed some info about how the Varl were created by one particular god, are practically immortal (but not invincible), and no more can be created.
So their numbers are constantly dwindling.

greeks and mayan's both had-state stlye of organization, but the mayan had kings that potentially ruled over many city-states, while the classical greeks had varying forms of governance
"tribe" tends to be a term based around ethnographic and social complexities and can be a kinda collar-tuggy term
in a general sense it refers to a group of peoples who tend to share a common ethnicity and have much smaller and less complex socities, but you can see where that might get real tricky real quickly
So, 2 ago episode of Marlow briggs I started to talk about some of it's basic influnces in Maya culture, as well as stuff it got wrong, such as the Mask being influenced by Mixtec art. Unfortunately, like how I missed the first 3 episodes, I missed the chance to chime in on episode 4, but i'm gonna continue now.
In particular, i'd like to focus on something that's been mentioned a few times but I think is sort of important despite nobody really realizing it: That is, the evil Chinese business dude has asked Marlow's wife to translate some glyphs, and to decode some "codices", whatever those are.
The utter disdain in the small-time comment is great. But the other line is the one I'll just say randomly whenever anything vaguely related to it comes up. Or I just think of RE4.

No, because the angels seem to have the numbers correlate to the number of reincarnations. I think.

It's not like greeks didn't form leagues or hegemonies.
Speaking of the DLC-shop in Street Fighter V, Dan seems really happy for Blanka.
Rashid's Airman-costume is amazing.
I think the localization needs a second pass

Matt made ProZD read one of his engrish porns. There's a rare collectible Matt-laugh.
I've also been watching the LA Noire LP again. Another LP made strong by (mocking) racism.
