when will blizzard stop being cowards and give us a genetically modified 400 year old man

How about just go the full way and make a 2000 year old man character and hire Mel Brooks to record lines.

I'm kind of surprised by their main tanks. Maybe Cwoosh and Reinforce have each improved a lot, but surely there was a better Swedish main tank in Contenders...

That's a damn good DPS lineup. I'd run a Reinforce/Nevix tank line with Graceful and (insert support here).

I feel like I recognize more of Sweden's roster (cwoosh, reinforce, zebbosai, tvique, iddqd) than Finland's (fragi, linkzr, and taimou), but I'm probably just out of the loop.

Biggoose and Shaz are the starting supports on Gladiators. Zuppeh is on Mayhem (but they are probably not starting Zuppeh....). Zappis is also on Mayhem but never in for some reason. Ripa and Davin are Team Gigantti, who took 2nd in EU Contenders 2018.

I guess I'm gonna start looking at new video cards.

Some patches seem to put the graphics to ultra mega super for me- Check that out.

I always check my settings and turn them back if they do that. Didn't happen this time.

Yeah, that aught to help then. Make sure to hit the bnet client itself too. It tends to build up a lot of garbage.

I'm 95% sure bindings are saved on their servers, not on your local machine. So it'll still be there when you reinstall. Or if you logged into a friend's machine with your account.

Anecdotally, I think keybindings are tied to the account? I had a friend log in on my computer and change some bindings, and it was still set on their account/computer when they got back home.

I love that the hamster is named after Richard Hammond. I don't like that his hero name is Wrecking Ball cause it sounds doofy.

I hope people just call him Hammond in game.

I kind of don't like the LFG tool with it's locked in role as at times we don't need two healers or two tanks but at the start of the match I would not know that
Alas few people use the whatever option

I played some mystery heroes last night while the PTR was borked, and as someone who could never "click" with Sym I normally dread rolling her. Last night, watching teammates get wrecked by turrets sticking to the wall behind them, and then doing the same to opponents, I definitely agree that she has changed completely.

I know a lot of people here hate it, and I am just
ambivalent, but I no longer groan when I have to play as her.

The turret change is fine. They really should have done just that and see how it worked out. Moving her to DPS and giving her primary a damage nerf is just lol.

(Yes it's a nerf. She does significantly less damage to jinky targets now because OW beams suck)

The teleporter is also too finicky for me, and requires everyone who wants to use it to map a completely new button for it (which was real fun the first time I tried to use it and straight up couldn't) plus she's now completely vulnerable and unable to protect herself or anyone else if she gets caught in the open, since she lost her projected barrier

They took all the parts of her kit that were about spacing/area denial (no one is afraid of the Sym beam anymore) and static defenses/passive buffs like the shield generator or the teleporter, all concepts I really enjoy, and replaced them with more "active" shit

I could be fine with the turret changes in a vacuum but combined with everything else, they basically unmade that character and rebuilt her as another "high skill ceiling" teamwork-required esports main

And I just do not like it at all

Yeah. A lot of people have been saying her current beam feels kind of janky, even Seagull. Haven't had time to test it myself but that does sound worrying.

  • BionicPenguinBionicPenguin Registered User regular
I haven’t played as new Sym yet, but as far as I can tell, her beam isn’t really her primary attack anymore (despite its button placement). It’s for barrier busting and tanks. Meanwhile, her orbs are significantly more effective than they used to be and should be what you’re using most of the time.

I could be way off base, but that’s the impression I got from watching streams.

    Definitely

Especially when you can use the tele to get up on high ground. Suddenly dropping 3 turrets and a bunch of balls into the enemy backline can be very tough to deal with

I don't really find the beam to be any harder to use than Zarya's. Which for the record has always felt pretty unnatural for me, but most people seem okay with that one

  • KwoaruKwoaru Registered User regular
The beam was definitely the coolest part about playing old sym though so I could see why losing that would be a bummer

That just means Winston and Mei have the only good feeling beam weapons now

  • DragkoniasDragkonias That Guy Who Does Stuff You Know, There. Registered User regular
I'm still iffy about how good the beam will serve in barrier breaking purposes too.

It takes a while to charge is relatively short range and is tied to a squishy hero with limited mobility.

And so far all the gameplay I've seen of this simply reinforces this belief.

I'm sad we lost barrier penetration for the right click as well, that was a route I wish they had dove into.

But ya, it was just so many changes at once, and so very little is anything like Symm we've had before, it's definitely a kick in the teeth for those that loved old symm and wanted her to receive a rework in tune with her character.
Other revamps have at least stayed true to at least 70% of the previous character, Symm is maybe 10% what she was before.

Like , sure, she's more viable to random people now, but she's not Symmetra anymore.

As someone who played 40+ hours on old Sym, new Sym is pretty great. I can use her on both attack and defense effectively, and I think she may actually be better on attack due to the projectile turrets and that's without factoring in the teleporter.

I wonder if it would be better to have, say, the next 2-3 ticks' worth of Symmetra's beam (and Zarya's, if we want to be fair) hit the last target you actually hit, should the hitscan not find anything and you're aiming in vaguely the region around them. Not her classic lock-on by any means, but just enough to smooth out the need for absolutely perfect tracking.

Finally got around to playing nu Sym and like her more than old Sym, way more active. Probably still needs a few tweaks but I like the general direction.
