I always forget about Anchorman 2, but it’s got some A+ scenes.

Ghostbusters 2 isn’t terrible, but it’s so much worse than the first I can’t really watch it.

Are you talking the sequels to horror-comedies, or sequels to horror movies that veer sharply into comedy?

Not a movie, but the Wet Hot American Summer prequel series was great.

I fucking love the " I'M BUUHH-LIIIIIIIINNDDD!" bit, but not a whole lot else. Still pretty solid on balance.

Ah, it stinks, it sucks, it's anthropologically unjust

Ooh, Addam's Family Values is a very good choice

Gremlins 2 is alright, but such a huge step down from the first one that I would have trouble counting it

Gremlins 2 has a scene where they make fun of people trying to "rules lawyer" the Mogwai feeding rules, so it is automatically better

Saying Yoko Ono doesn't count because she's "an Andersonian choice" for an actress seems kinda shitty.

I was interested by the notion that Japan is hype for this movie - I didn't know Anderson was well-loved there.

Saw annihilation, was a little disappointed. Also I know this isnt in the spirit of the film but
it would have been so much easier to sail a boat in to the lighthouse. Especially since the primary thing that got people killed was mutated animals

so I can't remember how much of this was film vs book but
In the film Lena definitely puts forward this idea, nobody else seems keen and by that stage the rest of the team are becoming less ... coherent. But there are definitely mutated animals in the water in any case, probably plants, too.
It's not a bad idea but I don't know that it's inherently safer. Additionally, the entrance point to Area X is not near the ocean, and again I'm not sure it's made explicit but there is only one known point at which you can enter, so you'd have to take some land travel anyway.

In the book the lighthouse isn't really the focus so much, and there's some hints that in that area, danger comes in from the sea. I don't know if you've read it so I don't want to talk about it too much more than that, though.

Nah none of that was really made clear in the movie, I might check out the book tho

Looking at Broken Lizard's other movies, even as much as I love them, I'm still apprehensive about Super Troopers 2.

Because the 'comedy sequel that is good' is one of the rarest breeds of movies.

I was able to see an early screening last week and I'm here to say
It was pretty alright. It's a decent comedy sequel. Funny enough, doesn't surpass the original but doesn't ruin it's brand like some other sequels that came way too late.
Its pretty much the first movie but different and with different jokes which was good enough for me.

Best thing about the screening, I got the tickets through Fox Searchlight screenings but I guess it was the Indiegogo screening for all the people who donated to the funding campaign for the movie. So before the movie started, to my surprise, Jay Chandrasekhar comes out and talks for a couple minutes thanking everyone for donating and tells us to stick around after for a Q&A. After the movie, Jay came back out and had Erik, Steve and Kevin with him for a Q&A and pictures afterwards. Very unexpected, but very awesome.

Can we get the chemicals in. 'Cause anything's better than this.

    Ventriss mentions
that the Southern Reach has attempted to enter from the ocean before, with no success.

I ran into one of the Broken Lizard guys at a Tom Petty concert outside of a bathroom right after Beerfest came out.

We were both just standing there waiting for our dates and I was like, "So, uh, what's up? You, uh, working on like a period piece of anything next?"

Ok, so I'm gonna do a film night tomorrow. Double sci fi Netflix films. The question is:
Do I lead with Annihilation followed by Ice Pirates? Or Ice Pirates followed by Annihilation?

My logic is the former, because you want people engaged in Annihilation, and then you can chat or whatnot in Ice Pirate and it doesn't really matter if people are tired/drunk. Plus, if people decide their tired and want to go home, I'd rather they miss Ice Pirates.
    My friend suggested the latter.

Ghostbusters 2 is a hilarious failure. That movie fucking kills me in so many ways.

“Let’s see what happens when we take away the puppy.”

    “His name is Oscar.”
“Named after a hot dog! You poor man! You poor, poor man!”

“I await the words of Vigo!”
“I, Vigo, the scourge of Carpathia...”
“I know, you’ve told me this. ‘The scourge.’”
    “...the sorrow of Moldavia...”
“Sorrows, I’ve heard all of this, yes.”
    “...COMMAND you!”
    “Command me, lord!”

    “Hello! ... Hello! ... Hello!”
    “HEY! ... HEY! ... HEY!”
    “Hello? ... ... ... WIIIIIIIIINSTOOOOOOOOON!”

    Anchorman 2

Anchorman 2 is a classic example to me of a team trying to recreate a singular point in time that has long since passed. It felt like it was trying to recreate Anchorman without having the slightest clue what made Anchorman work.

    It was bad.

What are some good comedy sequels? Not even as good as the original, but just a generally solid flick.

There’s gotta be more than Wayne’s Workd 2 and Army of Darkness, but I’m blanking.

    Naked Gun 2 1/2.
