It’s just like...do something else, dude. Read a book, go outside. It’s a big world out there

So we're at the point where we shame people for playing games "too much". Coolcoolcool.

That is absolutely not the thrust or purpose of that post. You know it isn’t.

It is highlighting the semantic anomaly (a more comedic example thereof would be something like "Was it you or your brother who was killed in the war?”).

No, the OP is saying that instead of making long posts about a game a person has spent a lot of time in and yet are disappointed in, they should... go outside

which is not really constructive, since you'd probably want feedback from people who have spent a lot of time in your game

Hey, OP here. Apo was right. "This restaurant is terrible!" "I know! And such small portions, too!"

I apologize for suggesting that people do literally anything else with their free time other than play video games they hate tho. Don't know what I was thinking with that one

Dude. Communities formed up around Destiny 1. Tight knit communities that were cultivated and fostered for three years. Then Destiny 2 comes out and these communities of people are still looking for Destiny to be their gaming bar of sorts. Except the bar has started watering down the alcohol. And they replaced the booths with tall tables. And they changed the lighting to be a bit too dark. Also, the music sucks compared to what they used to play. But, its in the perfect location for all our friends to still meet and its still fun to be there with friends, despite the bar starting to suck. Yeah, we've hung out at that bar for 300 hours. But why shouldn't we be allowed to complain about it without someone coming in and laughing at us and telling us to go find a new bar (or go outside or read a book).

This game has history. It perfectly aligns with many groups of friends and is the one place they can hang out that works for all of them. Its still fun to play with their friends, but wow does some of it just suuuuuck compared to Destiny 1. And 300 hours into Destiny doesn't preclude those people from complaining about the state of the game and wanting it to be the best game it can be for the community. In fact, those 300+ hour players are the ones that are most passionate and have the most invested into the game and should probably be listened to the most. They are the ones that see deeper issues in the bar that randos dont and they truly want the bar restored to its former glory.

It will never not be hilarious to me to see people post in here telling people in the community to go find another game and then you look at their history and see they didn't play Destiny 1 and don't understand any of the history this community/franchise has been through.

Well shit, my flippant remark has certainly struck a nerve.

Look man, I honestly get it. And I don't think you're wrong in your criticisms of the game. I understand that Destiny is more than just the game for a lot of the community and it's lauded for its social aspects, but to continue your bar analogy, if people went to a bar, it changed and they hated it, I would think the same thing there, too: dude, why are you giving money to an establishment you don't like? There's a shitload of other bars out there, why not just go to another one? Or, y'know, do something else with your friends? Frisbee golf is a good time, and you can drink doing that, too!

You're right on another point too, I didn't play D1. I'm PC only for this gen, so I spent the first go round watching from the sidelines and hoping the sequel would come out on PC. When it did I was hyped, and since I don't have as much time to play as others, I was able to keep my interest going for a lot longer than other people. Now that I'm rubbing up against the endgame boundaries though I'm relating to the gripes, but I never really thought they were wrong in the first place.

What was said earlier was true, though, too. The point of my post wasn't to shame people for playing games "too much". It was to highlight the contradiction in complaining about how an activity, any activity, is unfun and not worth doing while simultaneously doing it a whole whole bunch. Surely, at the end of the day, you can admit that's a little bit funny, right? At least a little? A smidge? A skosh?

To continue with the bar analogy - in this case, you've known and been friends with the bar owner for years. When he asked you to invest in his renovations you agreed because he built a great place for you and your friends to hang out and drink, and you want to support him so you can continue to hang out there. You expected him to renovate and make his bar more of what it already was - you weren't prepared for him to go in a completely different direction. You feel like you made a poor investment, and you're disappointed as a result. Moreover, you're hearing rumors that he's abusive to his girlfriend, he didn't file his taxes the last few years, and he hosts parties for some strange cult in the basement every second Tuesday.

I don't think it's accurate to look at someone's total hours played and assume they are still playing as much as they were. I few pages back I posted the heatmaps for time played, and it's obvious for me as a very specific example that I'm not playing as much as I was, despite my total hours being high. I don't much like the core experience of Destiny 2 and will continue to complain about it. However, I love the people I play with, and I enjoy the raids enough that it's not a chore to maintain the raiding schedules that my groups have. It's not an option to tell someone like me to just go play another game - there is literally no other experience available today like raiding in Destiny, and the logistics of moving the ten or so people that I play with to another game is not an insignificant barrier.

Also, speaking for my small group of friends - we do play other games together, they just invariably get compared to Destiny.

Yeah, and now there's a new Japanese bar down the street that a dozen HDTV's, a simple yet surprisingly deep drink menu, a gorgeous gaming section with tons of minigames, a jukebox with 10,000 songs, and weekly music acts that cater to even niche genre lovers.

It's just too bad they stuff everyone into tiny booths and make it a real pain in the ass to keep a group together.
    Guess which game am I

    Pokemon Go?

Pretty sure he's talking about MHW, which yeah, I too have started going to that bar much more often.

Like was said above, its the only bar thats in the perfect location for all of that group of friends to meet. Other bars have been suggested, sure. But that bar over there only lets people sit in groups of 4, and there's six of us. And that bar over there is too focused on melee combat. And the other bar is too MMORPG. And the groups of friends are still having fun in the Destiny bar. Just not nearly as much fun as when the bar had booths, better music, didn't smell like piss, and much much better alcohol. Many groups have stopped going to the Destiny bar. Some are sticking it out hoping that the owner figures out why the bar gets literally zero traffic compared to before the renovation.

Its funny if someone is playing something they aren't having any fun doing, yet continue to do for hundreds of hours. Sure. But if you think that's whats happening (especially in here) when so many of the Destiny 1 vets complain about the game then you are offbase. I can only speak for my group (NATBurn), but we still have laughs and fun and kill each other and enjoy exercising our teamwork in Destiny 2, so we haven't quit yet. But none of us are all that happy about the state of the game. So we complain about the massive issues that Destiny 2 has, while we hang out and laugh and make the best of the deteriorating bar around us.

To be honest I was referring more to it seems like every other place on the internet that bitches about D2. I actually like most of the conversation in here and (again) think most of the points are valid ones, which is probably why this is literally the only gaming forum I frequent. It's a ratio thing, y'know? I think it's pretty undeniable that things can sometimes tip overly into the negative side, and when it does I have to laugh, I just do.

I tend to find some complaints about "there is nothing to even do! (In this game I paid $60 for and played for 300 hours)"a bit hollow. I have to check myself sometimes for making those same complaints (especially with D2)! Because there is no game with truly infinite content, and developers cannot win a content race against the audience.

It is just that D2 suffers in the light of D1. Should I be mad I got like 150 hours of D2 play in for $100, and probably still a bit more with DLC2? Probably not in isolation..... but when I look at the 1000+ hours, and more constently fun hours of D1 post Vanilla, an otherwise high value proposition looks bleak.

I am hopefully that D3 is a redemptive success that washes away the bad taste and people come roaring back, because I miss my friends (as Monster Hunter has them, but Warframe has me, and neither feel as good as say a Raid or a Lighthouse run). But the persistant looter game is a more crowded space already, and getting more so before D3.

There's a lot of PC players who only really have D2 saying the same thing. D2 lacks for things to do in that there is a lack of meaningful and/or challenging things to do in the game that give meaningful rewards. But that's what the game is supposed to have. It's not that they didn't intend for it to be played that way and we've "gotten our money's worth" already, they just designed it poorly.

Yeah, the new PC players don't understand a lot of things about Destiny 1 and the community, which is why they will not be prepared in a few months, after a brief honeymoon period, when the community does its absolutely predictable flip and we get to hear about Bungie isn't listening to the "community consensus" and its [insert requested nerf list here]. Then they'd finally have the true Destiny fan experience.

I'm really getting into arcstrider with gemini jester for PvP. The disorient works really well with that close quarters playstyle, especially with way of the warrior letting you get your dodge back after melee kills. In this Iron Banner alone I've had a couple instances of getting three people in one combination blow chain.

Just could not catch somebody even if I started hording heavy ammo and saving my own super while reflecting on how it's a shitty challenge because of the behavior it inspires.
