They're apparently randomly leaking some new/extra stuff in their weekly Thursday streams.

This week was that the Deepcore (Scout AR) is getting a burst fire clean OC in the update.

Second week in a row of super tame DD/EDD too, for that matter.

Dev stream playing on season 5 patch. Didn't watch it in depth, but they talk a little bit about some other OCs being added above and beyond the ones mentioned (eg a Stubby OC that decreases spread, increases recoil, increases weakpoint damage), and one of the rounds has the new secondary objective. There are barnacles in the ceiling that glow and emit a gas that you need to shoot to destroy. The last round also features a new unstable for the Lok-1 that automatically fires and locks on faster, but limits max locks.

    Someone put together a gallery.

I missed it before, but unfortunately, it looks like season 5 will be another year long thing, with work on season 6 not planned until Rogue Core is released for early access, which is currently estimated for early 2025. At least RC should be sufficiently similar to base DRG to function like an alternate mode.

    I'm gonna pet the drillevator.

Note: The Deep Dive this week has both the new primary and secondary. The EDD does too, but it's Mactera and Swarmageddon, and... ew.

There's a good overview of all the new stuff here, along with examples of all the overclocks.

Gunner got two carpet bombing OCs, which both look hilarious.

Did the Deep Dive, and the spawn pool has basically a little bit of everything. Saw all the new monsters except the core crawler event thing, though just one stalker. Both the new stationary things are super deadly, even on lower hazards.

There's a lot of bugs, especially relating to the new pipeline secondary DD missions which do the spam mission control voicelines over and over like the rockpox meteor event stuff, but the worst seems to be that if you're not the host, you can get incorrect resonance crystal indicators around spawn, so be aware of that. Don't love the resonance crystal stuff to be honest. The cave gens for them are reaaaaally convoluted and confusing, and digging them out is kind of a pain, especially since the very complex cave systems seem to frequently mean that the pod you need to hook up ends up in a different tunnel. Having a driller feels like a 100% neccessity. You really need to listen closely because there's a special high pitched noise when you're right on top of them, and then need to crack the shell too.

Drillevator part, not really sure I can say. It had Rival warning going on, and spawned a Nemesis during it, which was complete bullshit for a fucking lot of reasons. That it has no vulnerable spots underneath it, so it was just a giant thing blocking bullets and spewing repulsor walls the entire way down, that there was no room to maneuver so every time the drillevator stopped, it would grab someone, that it died at the bottom and then there was barely any room to avoid the death rattle bombs, etc. That was just fucking anti-fun and idiotic, but I doubt it's representative of the normal gameplay. At the same time though, they need either a ton more seeds, or something at the bottom. It looked to me like there were exactly as many seeds as you need, and A.) Our engineer DCed and there were 3-4 seeds high up on walls or ceilings with ground that's extra hard to mine/drill on and seed-shells that need to be struck multiple times, so it was tedious as fuck, and B.) One of the seeds fell under the drillevator and they're not tracked on the scanner, so it took like 3 minutes of searching around in a tiny space just to get out of that. I can also see griefing being possible. A Driller or Scout taking one seed and then going up into the roof so their shit can't be retrieved even after kicking them. Not USUALLY an issue with DRG, but I've been running into more dicks than usual there, so basic QoL/anti-griefing seems in order.

Pipeline and resonance crystal secondaries in DDs are complete jokes though. They're basically nothing. They MIGHT spawn a mini-wave, but maybe not. Compared to Black Box, Dreadnought, or even just the normal swarm of Eggs, they're the easiest secondary by a long shot. At least assuming the hookup spawn doesn't completely fuck you.

    E:
Apparently bulks can spawn during the drillevator parts too, and launch their explosives straight down. ...Fun.

Also, ton of new voice lines. Dwarves now announce when they kill acid spitters, for example.

Did another drillevator mission and... yeah. I can't recommend doing them at all without a solid driller. One of the crystals was basically right above spawn, so we were getting the ping that we were nearing it, but it was like 45m straight up, and the only way to it without going straight up was a long-ass passage coming from the opposite direction. And we only figured that out after I platform climbed all the way up and dug through like 10m of rock to get to that cavern. The combination of hot/cold and ultra complex caves isn't fun.

The core stone mini-event is also fucking rough. It spawns about a dozen crawlers that are basically ground macteras, moving extremely fast and jumping all over the place, so they're really hard to hit if you're not twitchy as fuck or using something like a sludge pump, so again, Driller winning this update, but at the same time, you need to be mining out the stone and then shooting it. And repeat that three times. There's too much going on and they're too dangerous, even at Haz 4. It's

Going into this season basically blind regarding the season stuff. Saw my first core sample and figured ah, this looks like it's the equivalent of a mini-meteor or such, broke it open on-sight. Team wiped in quick succession. Whoooops.
Haven't been playing too much lately, so I'm jumping right back into haz 5 for that assigment, and the lobby I picked was running increased enemy spawns. Real frantic, felt like being a greenbeard again. Kinda liked that.

    Useful tip:

The currently generated stages won't change if you switch seasons, but the hazards and warnings on them do. Just between season 5 and all the others though (ie 0-4 are one set, and 5 is another). That's super useful if an assignment rolls you like, Industrial Sabotage with Shield Disruption. Oops. Now it's Critical Weakness.

I still haven't had a good experience with the new mission type. It seems like it's made for the team to split up and all be going in different directions through the maze to find the things at once, but as soon as someone dies, or there's a machine/core event, it becomes a nightmare finding your way to them unless you can brute force it with a driller. And again, when one of the crystals is in a singularly reachable branch passage through a convoluted path, that's really frustrating. The drillevator part is neat, but the platform needs to be like 20% bigger, and it should really be limited to like 90% grunts/swarmers. Bulks, Nemesis, Goo Bombers, Shellbacks, and Septic Spreaders are the worst offenders by far, but even Praetorians and Oppressors will fall onto the platform when you kill them and create clouds of damaging gas AND make it impossible to see anything while being unusually tanky because you can't maneuver around them like usual. Stingtails also suck because if they yank you, it's basically just instant death from fall damage. Macteras, Acid Spitters, and Menaces also very often tend to lock on to you, but then the drillevator moves away, so they're just shelling you from so far away that they're a pinprick in the distance, and there's not room to move much so SOMEONE'S likely going to get hit by it.

It looks like the core stone stuff only spawns like 8 enemies per phase, so if you rush phases, you can get overwhelmed, but if you sit back, or run away, it eventually just kind of sits there uselessly.

Also, really liking the new stubby turret arc rework. The turret arcs still hurt you/teammates, but the platforms are totally benign when electrified and basically slow everything that gets near them to a total stop.

    E:
Yeeeah. Played Driller myself (w/sludge pump), and even with a couple rank greenbeards, Drillevator and corestone were SOOOOO much smoother. Being able to just say fuck it and make your own tunnels, and laying down a whole room of CC before insta-popping the core shell... that's the good stuff. I got every single resonance crystal on my own plus dug tunnels to get them to the Omen (and myself to the core stone they found) and it was sooooooo much smoother.

Had a point extraction today where someone broke a core stone right at the start, before we'd had a chance to do anything. Pretty frustrating, but it was just haz 3 and we were high level so I tried not to get too salty about it, maybe they just figured it'd be necessary to keep things interesting. But after a minute or so fighting the spawns with no idea where the actual rifts or stone were, I started looking for them in earnest. Realized they were coming from a layer of the map above the one we were in. Was surprised the other guy had even managed to get up there and break the stone so fast. It wasn't until I got up there that I realized, the other dwarf hadn't broken the core stone. The minehead had drilled right through the core stone on its way down.

Deep dive this week? Oops all projectiles. Regular DD is a bit of a marathon, though EDD is apparently way chiller than last week in a team, but standard Haz 5+ Escort bullshit solo.

A few more drillevator tips I've seen people doing.

Engineers leaving platforms around the edges really helps funnel bugs and block some of all the ranged things.
Any grenades that stick to walls are great. Especially gunner's shrapnel thing. Driller C4 is especially useful here. Minelayer is also OP as fuck.
When the drillevator stops, you can dig a quick shallow alcove to leave any kind of gas grenade in which will fill basically the entire space when it starts moving again. Especially good for the Driller (can make a hole fast) with the neurotoxin gas since that fills the whole hole for a long time. Can also drop them on engy platforms if he's making them.

I was surprised when I saw that engi turrets properly stuck to the drillevator, and it looks like they've actually applied that to other objects in the game too. For example, when you fill the extraction pod with holo decoys, they'll stay in with you as it lifts off instead of phasing through the floor.

Trying a loadout with conductive thermals drak and a cryo bolt boltshark, took it on an elimination. Obviously the gameplan with that loadout was to just freeze the dreads a bunch, so when the driller brought a flamethrower I figured this mission would be a dud for testing the loadout. But the debuff from conductive thermals is strong enough that even firing through cryo bolt buildup, the flamethrower ignites dreads really fast, and then the cryo bolt procs temp shock. Could do it fast enough to get multiple procs per bolt.

Heh, pretty sure I've gotten every other new OC before getting the two I'm most interested in, the warthog and stubby ones. Finally got the warthog's earlier, so I should be getting the stubby's in short order unless there's some other OC I missed.

The Warthog OC, pump action, seems pretty solid. I haven't run the math yet, but the damage increase seems like real good numbers, well worth the tradeoff in RoF and ammo. Firing the default warthog at its max rate of fire incurs some bloom buildup, so trading RoF for damage is a better deal than the numbers alone suggest too, as it means you're losing less accuracy at its full rate of fire. And then of course there's the real big deal with this OC, the blowthrough. As expected, feels like a great fit for the warthog. Puts holes through crowds of grunts like a focus/blowthrough M1k build.

Ah by the way, something I'd recommend as a new player is focus on getting one class to 25 at the start. Once you hit 25, you can promote that class, more or less prestiging it. This is important because once you've promoted a class, it lets you start collecting and using Overclocks. Overclocks are special upgrades you can apply and swap in and out on your weapons, and having a loadout where both your primary and secondary have overclocks is more or less being at endgame power level. A bunch of overclocks also just do cool, fun stuff. It's little harm if you want to dabble with various classes, but I'd advise against ending up with like, your other three classes already being in the tens by the time you get your first to 25.

I assume DRGS meant DRG Survivor, so I dunno how much is relevant.

And can I say that I despise the new terrain generation around the heartstone this season? Especially when it slaps a bunch of oil into the spires so they can't be drilled. But shit like this? Why.

I know the first explosion will clear a lot of it, but it's super irritating. I can't even tell if it's a bug or not.

Just have to say I hopped in here for the first time in a couple years, and this game still rocks (and stones). Already level 50 in the season, got some friends back into it (though they only play like, 2 missions once or twice a week, losers). Every little detail in this game is wonderful, and the moment to moment gameplay is so satisfying. I don't go more than an hour or so without a truly cinematic moment rescuing a fellow miner or failing together against insurmountable odds and I just love it.
