I don't know why this game doesn't click with my brother and a friend of mine. I think it may have pacing issues.
Part of the hook for me was the traversal, cause even though each mission type has a general layout, suddenly having this big ol cavern that we have to puzzle out while fighting off bugs is a pleasure.
Helps that the classes synergize so even though Gunner is my least fav there are so many times I wish I had the zip line.
How far along are they? The beginning can be a bit of a slog. I'd highly recommend the Scout to start since they can light up everything, get to everything, and their weapons/nades are all useful.
The game really comes alive once you have every class to lvl 15, then you can mix and match with other players to synergize.

Scout is the best class, not because I ever play it myself but because I die from fall damage a ton in this game and the scout is always the person to revive me
It's funny how when I started I thought Scout was the most selfish class, but lighting things up, mobility and grenades make him such a great asset--though people can still be greedy zoomy bois.
Engineer is the best class because only he can make your workspace OSHA compliant
Unfortunately that is not the case as OSHA require railings on platforms above a few feet and also requires platforms that are unable to be chewed through by space bugs. :P
Alien imposter. Pretender. I'll keep you safe now. Close to my heart.
I think the Scout is the best class for folks to start with. The guns are simple, getting a room lit up works solo and helps a group a ton without much effort, all the grenades are great, and the grapple gun helps get out of sticky situations during swarms or dreadnought fighting.
All the classes are pretty well balanced. I'd say the driller might be my 2nd choice for beginners since he can just drill his way to the drop pod at the end and the flamer is a great starter weapon (along with those axes). The gunner shined on Point Extraction missions, so you're looking to level on up, those are great missions to choose. Those Zip-lines are key.
The engineer is a powerhouse now, especially with the breach cutter, but takes some investment before they really shine. I remember really struggling at the start as the grenade launcher is ok and your turrets are weak.
The grenade launcher is so viscerally satisfying that I can't get behind the breach cutter at all
haha idk, I love the laser death the triple breach cutter brings. Though I would love a Fat Boy OC so I can dust off the nade launcher. There is definitely something to the visceral boom it brings to the table.
I will say the scout is best for Soloing as you can zip around with grappling hook with ease and also see where you going.
Bosco is great for soloing and if you use the pointer he will dig into materials and even carry larger chunks or M.U.L.E legs for you. He also can have all upgrades activated at once so he’s totally worth investing.
Played the other night with friends and finally got my first golden death shower from glyippid crassus detonater. It was glorious!
Oh no, Ghost Ship did an AMA on Reddit and it was really interesting and cool, except that I learned of the existence of a drawing
Someone drew lewd furry(?) art of a glyphid dreadnaught, and my dumbass had to go find it. Someone come cut out the part of my brain that holds memories, I've already scooped out my eyeballs
edit: actually the exchange was pretty funny. Someone mentioned the picture and the devs were like, "oh we've seen it. Are you the artist?" and they responded, "if I was, would I get a unique reward or a special ban?" and the devs said, "definitely a special ban" lol :rotate:
Ha, I've done that thinking I was being clever as well.
Thankfully the Driller demo pack can take care of that and pesky lava geysers like that safely.
The Gunner weapons can also break terrain by default. The revolver weapon especially is good for breaking geysers and harder to reach health crystals. Probably not worth it to do regular mineral mining with it though.
How do you make them explode with gold like that? Is the key getting a killshot on one of their glowing weak spots? Or is there just a different variant of that mob for when it explodes with gold?
I've had it happen a few times in games but I am not clear on the issue

Just a type of bulk. It's a bulk crassus detonator.

I think it's a different kind of bulk detonator.
Most are just the regular deadly kind. A rare few are gold detonators.
I've only seen the latter once--combined with it being an exploder infestation we almost wiped multiple times trying to dig up all the gold.

Probably better to just have the driller use his c4 charges to explode the terrain. IIRC that should leave the gold loose and ready for pickup.
I'm not even sure if it's even worth collecting the gold. I kind of share the opinion that gold veins aren't worth enough credits per chunk of gold to be worth mining. Especially since they take more pickaxe swings to mine than other minerals. So I just leave the gold in the walls and use that saved time to run more missions. Now if you have a way to explode the terrain to mine those detonator craters in bulk, then that changes things a bit. But I don't even slow down for standard gold veins in the walls.

Gold is definitely always worth getting. Cosmetic stuff, forging, and prestige upgrades are expensive and credits can eventually be used to purchase minerals as well.
Not like the missions are timed unless you are deep diving.

I never fear death or dyin', I only fear never trying.
Nothing you can do, just gotta have the spawn and kill it.
If you drank a Pot o Gold you’ll be there for an hour.
one time my friends and I found one and burrowed all the way into solid ice with it following us before killing it
it was like a kinder surprise egg except the surprise was the chocolate shell and the shell was the gold covering the now spherical chamber
we were there for a good 20 minutes feverishly mining it all, dropping it from the ceiling so we could sit at the bottom of the crater next to mulE just depositing it and then immediately refilling and depositing etc.
I've been having a lot of fun with this! Just had a great mission finale where someone managed to get tagged by a frankly unnecessary supply pod on the ramp as the rest of us were on board and it just immediately took off.
I also had a tragic one where I managed to grapple onto the drop pod at 5 seconds out... and couldn't get to the dang door in time.
Mostly though I just really enjoy the basic experience of playing as a Scout. Launching flares never gets old, and I appreciate that I can pop up onto walls to grab various secondary items.

Roadmap. More biomes, more enemies, more missions (and more structural layouts, which is great). Sounds great.

Depending on the mission it’s not always worth hanging around too long as all that gold takes a while to mine.
If you do get one try to find a nice area with four walls to make the most of its golden explosion.
