In 1871 they became a charter member of the National Assn. of Professional Baseball Players, making 2021 the 150th anniversary of professional baseball in Cleveland. It's perfect.
Instead of going with the name of a defunct, presumably segregated whites only team, could they go with a Negro League team name? Google and wikipedia have the Cleveland Buckeyes, but I guess Ohio State has claimed that one.
There were a few Negro League teams associated with Cleveland. I think on Salute to the Negro Leagues nights they go with Cleveland Tigers uniforms, but I'm not sure how widespread the event is and therefore don't know if they have a preference for that or it's just the only one I remember; I only catch it when teams playing KC do it.
Elites, Hornets, or Stars seem more likely if they go that route.
So Atlanta and KC in the NFL have to do this now too, right? Good.
I assume so. Also the Blackhawks of the NHL. Then they can start working on college teams.
The Blackhawks have already started rebranding, backing away from the chief logo and pushing their new mascot, which is a black hawk (aka the bird). I wouldn't be surprised if they just quietly left themselves the Black Hawks and went with the bird logo on everything.
Lol that’s so far in the past all industry in Cleveland fled to actual places decades ago that river isn’t any more flammable than a waterlogged human carcass

I’m so happy Francisco Lindor is getting out of there most likely.

Good for him. He deserves it
Also, hoping that I'll get to take him to his first game next year (but more likely in 2022.)

Just go back to that name.
I don’t believe so. They were called The Spiders which is a kickass name they should use
