Attempted to defeat a DevilJho in MHGen. It did not end well. For me. It was the first time I actually tried to fight him and wasn't just running to other zones to escape him and I was doing fairly well actually (two mount/topples, 3 knockdowns, drooly etc.) but he raged out and caught me in his jaws and chomped me to a final cart. I think I was really close to taking him out but just couldn't seal the deal.
What weapon are you guys running on your Palicoes now, status effect or just mainly damage?
I run a sleep weapon. It's either the Radobaan or Uragaan one (don't remember). The Palico gets at least one sleep per combat (sometimes two, if I'm being unusually slow).
The paralyze weapon is pretty great, definitely procs at least once a fight, or even 2 to 3 times if you're fighting near those girros fodder in Rotten Vale.
I really like Greatsword but I feel like it's the hardest weapon to use in the game. Enemies that are usually easy can be difficult because they hop around and are hard to read (Kulu, disco raptor, etc.) and enemies that are powerful and tough can end up being weirdly easy because you can tackle their big, highly visible attacks (barroth, Diablos) and retaliate effectively
I haven't even figured out how to land true charge slashes consistently aside from on KO/trap/status

I’m running para myself, used Kitty of the Valley but trying out Butterfly Wand now, they seem very similar.

Nerg, for that added High Elderseal. At this point if it isn't an Elder Dragon I'm not really worried about it, so I don't switch weapons around. Otherwise i'd probably do a Poison or Paralysis, or Sleep if playing solo.

Yeah, Palico sleep is very useful except for the off chance that it pops in the middle of mounting a monster.

Yeah, Palico sleep is very useful except for the off chance that it pops in the middle of mounting a monster.
It's also less useful in multi-monster hunts or hunts with a lot of adds around that potentially can knock the monster out of sleep. But I find it more useful than Paralyze because it gives you a much longer time to set yourself up and run to the monster. When a Palico paralyzes, it could be on a monster that's far away from you in the zone. Much of the time of the paralysis window is wasted on "Wait, WTF? Oh the monster is paralyzed. Shit, better move to the head and... oh, it's over."
I love the switch axe, Peal Plus. The final upgrade is the Kirin Peal that requires six, SIX, goddamn Kirin Azure Horns.
Is it worth that kind of insane time? Or maybe we can get together a squad of Kirin Assassins to pound him into next year.
Strictly speaking, its not the optimal axe to go for. Just grab diablos for raw damage or jagras for the exhaust shenanigans.
Looks good though. Also that's 4-6 HR kirin kills, so have fun.
Diablos is so boring though, that's what I see everyone doing.
My only Switch Axe so far has been the Barroth one, running a Free Element/Paralyze Plus build. It's pretty hilarious. I had extra slots, so I run with some Polish Protect/Grinder on it, too, to counteract the rapid sharpness loss.

Yes...but. You need to run at least 2 pieces of Azure Rath armor for the Elemental Boost Skill. Then layer on loads of crit chance. Then well, enjoy the crazy hundreds to thousands of damage you randomly get when whacking away on elder dragons.
So, that is to say. It's situational.

yeah i can say based on using the bone switch axe (which has pure dragon phial) that that shit can do some fuckin work on the right target
i did some thuggery to vaal hazak with that thing
tho the bone one has a lot more general utility since the raw is still good. that and the lack of any slots makes me a little leery of kirin weapons
+1

Depends on your armor really. I tent to run a mix of Azure Rath with beta Kush gear so I get some decent slots. What makes Kirin's axe nice is the augments. Just layer the thing with crits and giggle at the results.
The Rath Axe is the same way. It's the trade off I think they intended. High elemental benefits from crits.

Sorry about almost blowing the xbox side's tempered jho hunt. Fighting him with the LBG is so frustrating, even with buffs and maxed out armour he still 2 shots you with any combo of attacks. On plus side looks like me and Frawrst had the same idea on lance set-ups vs jho.

He just really did not want to keep fighting us in that zone. At the end I was just like "Just let him run I need to sharpen!" and then someone would shoot him out of the sky again. And then he was dead.

@fRAWRst Thanks for joining on the hunt! Finally got a large gold crown on rathian.
Uniquely, I think Teostra and Kushala Daora don't seem to be very particular about where you shoot off a Flash Pod. I almost feel like theres an error in where they register their cone of sight, because it seems damn near 360° to every other monster's much more narrow 120°-180ish° field directly in front of them.

It's this one maneuver us lancers do with big attacks so we don't have to run away from the monster and can keep stabbing.
I run the teo blast wand. I have been considering switching to para though.

Sub optimal isn't as bad as it might seem. So the fight takes a whole 2 minutes more. Big whoop.
Just don't use a thunder weapon on Kirin or whatever and you should be golden.
XBL:Phenyhelm - 3DS:Phenyhelm
He really knows i want those warrior stones.
I also played around a bit with pierce gunning. Not particularly speedy as I don't have some key gun decos.
probably worth a try at least. maybe load up with thunder attack gems. kirin weapons have super high caps iirc
Another annoying aspect of element weapons is very few of them can use all 5 decos. They'd be pretty dang good if they could.
....on a capture investigation.

Gunlance, for obvious reasons. They both like skills to maximize their lolnope shields.

All four tempered quests from one run for Val Hazak even while gathering for every other elder Dragon in the Elder Recess.
Gathering set's probably all you can get out of it to be honest. At least it has plenty of slots for that.
