I wonder if they're gonna keep up with it. It gets pretty tough, but the story is amazing. I could see them getting into it if Arin can handle the combat.

In my opinion, the combat's a little more combo-oriented than a game like Dark Souls/Bloodborne, but since they went pretty far with DS3 and BB, I feel like they can definitely keep God of War an ongoing series. The worst thing is not having an Estus Flask on demand, but the combat and keepaway style of combat you can do can make up for that... if Arin plays that way.

    Arin didn't play that way.

If I was playing the game myself I probably would've laughed a little when I saw that Kratos opens chests by punching down on them. But hearing Arin's reaction to it at the same time made me lose my shit.

I'm kind of bummed Arin was way ready to hate God of War right out the gate; that puts a damper on my enthusiasm for the series. It does give me little moments of cruel glee, though, like when one minute he's complaining about all the enemies being too samey and boring to kill, and the next minute he's positing that the game is going to do some cinematic thing to kill the first boss for him because obviously it's impossible.

Like mayyyyybe there's a teachable moment here

If he breaks out into another "ALL YOU DO IN THIS GAME IS (X)" rant I will scream. He's played tons of games and loved them where all you do is something.

I too was bummed to hear Arin ready to poop on the game.

Although, early levels of God of War combat are same-y. Progression fixes it fairly quickly though.

Arin is a person who will continue to go out of his way to find reasons to hate a game once he's already decided before going into it that he's going to hate it. I wouldn't expect it to change much no matter how good the game is, if he even bothers to play long enough to get to any of the better parts..

This is why I'm glad we have Danny and not Jontron, because Jon would feed that shit. Danny does too once in a while, but he's trying to keep it funny and light-hearted. Jontron would encourage Arin in a more toxic manner.

Arin tends to back down when he's challenged or something is pointed out to him though.

I find Danny way more inclined to go along with whatever Arin is saying. He might tell Arin to ease up but it is just for the sake of that, he will not make an actual counterpoint

I didn't even bother to start the GoW series. For some reason I just knew Arin wouldn't have a great time with it, and it would probably lead to videos that aren't very entertaining. I think he's made it clear in the past that he doesn't like cinematic/story heavy games?

I dunno, probably just trying to get some views off the current mega popular game.

It makes me a laugh a little on the inside how in his favorite Sequelitis video, he praises the way Mega Man X just teaches you things in the game as you progress.

And then by episode 2, he's experiencing every little tutorial, admittedly with help from a prompt instead of just intuitively, but he's pooping on it instead of praising the game for introducing a staple mechanic that will definitely been seen again and again.

It's a fantastic game, and they did an amazing job taking the character Kratos used to be and turning him into something more meaningful.

It's a game that you should really play through yourself at some point, rather than your first experience with it being with tweedle-dee and tweedle-dum's commentary over it. If not at full price, pick it up out of the bargain bin at some point and just give it a run.

Yeah, they're never going to finish GoW. Arin seems to have gone into it with his dial set to "fuck you, I refuse to engage" and yeah best they just walk away.

Oh well, I have the Super Best Friends LP of it to watch once they finish up and, unlike Arin, their ability to be hype about hype shit while still finding time to make jokes doesn't seem to be grotesquely stunted.

Well I for one appreciate Arin for being real and just not liking things he does not like.

Not everyone likes the same things as you. That doesn't make them a dick. Too many people seem to want to push their gaming opinions on him. It seems to constantly need to be repeated, but GG REALLY isn't the channel you should be watching to see a specific game you want to see. Sometimes we get lucky and they do one. Most of the time, they won't.

It's fine to not like a thing but not liking it right away while you're literally in the loading screen or first cinematic is silly. Arin has arrived at a conclusive opinion about the game before actually playing it. That's what people are objecting to. I'm more okay with his reaction to Sonic Mania than this game so far because with Sonic Mania he actually gave it a shot and went through a swing of opinion on "oh hey I get what people have been saying" to "it's still not my thing."

I'm guessing that he's projecting, like maybe he was pressured by someone or someones to play GoW on Grumps and he didn't want to.

    Yeah.

This is basically a tantrum-through: the least enjoyable of Arin playthroughs. At least when it's a bad game he has stuff to bounce his irritation off of.

He is pressured to play shit he doesn't want to.

I mean I will be honest, I watched the first episode and didn't notice much hate. I also found it extremely boring and could see how someone would be turned off quickly. I also never played the other games so I have zero attachment to the whole thing and the beginning does nothing to really attach you to a character OR present you with an interesting game.

So I mean, those would all be valid points, except it still seems like a lot of conclusions being jumped to because people just really want him to like the game. If it seems like he is playing it but didn't want to, that is likely what is happening. While the grumps thing has always been to play a game till they get bored and move on, Arin has at least wanted to try and make his fans happy and give things a try. If anything, THAT should be what everyone is irritated about. Not him being unable to pretend to enjoy something he doesn't

I don't know if you get to play the hottest, newest games for views AND be a martyr because you immediately decide to hate them before a fair try has been given. That seems real babyish behavior to me.

I dunno, I just watched the latest one and I think things are being overstated somewhat re: him hating it. Just seems like Arin being Arin.

I do agree he's not going to bother finishing it though.

I mean, to be clear, I'm fine with him not liking the game. I couldn't give a shit. I think the mood Arin seems to get into where he is looking for stuff to complain about in a game is a good indicator that I'm going to find the rest of the playthrough really tiresome to watch, if I were to do that, and that it's happening in the first episode of a series, particularly for a game that I can't play and is getting a lot of talk, is a bummer. I don't think anyone here even called him a dick for it?

edit: To clarify, the first episode is the only one I've watched.
