Yeah, they're never going to finish GoW. Arin seems to have gone into it with his dial set to "fuck you, I refuse to engage" and yeah best they just walk away.

Oh well, I have the Super Best Friends LP of it to watch once they finish up and, unlike Arin, their ability to be hype about hype shit while still finding time to make jokes doesn't seem to be grotesquely stunted.

It seems like one of those games where they're playing it not because they actually want to, but because its popular and they know that making a God of War video right now means lots of guaranteed views regardless of the actual video quality. They'll play it for three episodes and then drop it, like Subnautica. Yes I am still bitter about Subnautica.

I forgot they even did Subnautica! That could have been a lot of fun.

I don't know if you get to play the hottest, newest games for views AND be a martyr because you immediately decide to hate them before a fair try has been given. That seems real babyish behavior to me.

this might be a valid point, if the post right below yours wasn't the case.

People are vastly overstating his hate because they are overly sensitive to it. If he was basically playing it and shitting on it unfairly left and right you could have valid issues. But if he is just kind of not really into it and maybe at most making jokes at its expense, the terms "babyish" and "tantrum" are just people throwing their opinions strongly in the exact way they are claiming, and complaining, he is doing.

I guess I just don't understand the hate for effectively what GG IS and kind of always has been? The point about Dan being a good balance to all this was pretty good though. However I feel some pretty choice moments were made of Jon coaxing Arin into situations like this instead of attempting to balance it when it gets a little much.

Game Grumps is entertaining when they're being Grumpy about the things going on in their playthrough.

It's less fun if Arin breaks out into his "well I did a Sequilitis about" kind of rant that's tangential to the actual things going on in front of them at the moment.

It's hilarious as hell when they find a gimmick and run it into the ground, i.e. Sugar Crisp Bear and It's Me Laura, etc

Sugar Crisp Bear was so fucking funny. I related it to somebody who doesn't even watch the show (because I was giggling like a crazy person) and they loved it.

I prefer Game Grumps with really old or obviously trash games. Probably one of the better modern game playthroughs they did was for Inside and that was a platformer.

Oh and DDLC was a treasure, but only after they had the motivation to do the whole thing.

Yeah if the grumps are only playing things because it's the new hotness and not because they either enjoy the game or think it'll make a good show, then thats on them. I think 99% of their fambase doesn't care if the game is from today or the 80s as long as the show is funny.

To be clear: this new God of War is straight fire. The first games were garbage as far as I'm concerned. But this one? I'm having way more fun with it than I did Breath of the Wild. And I fucking LOVED Breath of the Wild.

This series makes me with I hadn't sold my PS4. I couldn't get into the previous GoW game but wow this is the first, real game play videos I've watched. Looks fantastic.

The issues they have with the core game play look to be overshadowed by all the bad dad jokes they can and will make, so if they stick with it I'm in for the whole ride.

I haven't made it to episode 3 but did Arin start fighting the Guest yet? That fight was hard... I had to redo it a few times to get the flow of things.

Yeah, The Stranger visits in episode 3.

Arin seems to really enjoy the fight too even though it's mostly cinematic and quick action buttons.

Okay I knew I remembered the harder part of that Stranger fight. I was surprised that Arin was able to complete the fights without dying.

It honestly feels like comedic letsplay duos are its target audience. It's pretty funny how they and the TBF have a complete game overlap at the moment.

Dramatic episode today, though, with the kid and all.
I guess it just shows the difficulties with helicopter parenting.

He missed the quick turn prompt and hasn't noticed the whole "square button fires Atreus' arrows quickly in combat" thing.

I think he's in for a bad time.

I mean, he commented on it. But he kinda didn't notice that the different indicators mean different things. And the "violet" one is really hard to differentiate from the "red" one.

He's going to get hit by offscreen guys constantly if he doesn't use the quick turn, is the thing. Alfheim is going to eat him alive.

I already watched a playthrough of it with michael and gavin from achievement hunter, and I'm still really enjoying this.
Michael and gavin chose almost all of the Leo options, so it's interesting to see how things will go.

    End game spoiler
Considering Arin is Vincent I think the ending will end up the same as AH though.

Hoo boy I'm glad I passed on the GoW playthrough... Arin is a pretty funny guy sometimes (i.e. Way Out), but I honestly don't think his grasp on gameplay theory is a fourth as strong as he and a lot of people seem to believe. He accidentally got it right in the MegamanX video, but he's mostly off the mark most of the time. I don't mean his personal taste, but, in his video essays about games like OoT, which I do think has actual flaws outside pure personal taste, his rambling against timing based combat was just silly.

I also dislike when it's clear he doesn't actually have anything smart or funny to say and starts screaming, babbling repeated words or ugh, beatboxing.

    Dan is my jam.

Yeah, it's gotten to the point where it's the 'Dan Show featuring Arin as That Guy who Keeps Stepping On Dan's Lines' because Dan is the main attraction for me.

I really really wish Dan would take the controls more often. He's more fun to listen to and I think Arin sometimes actively discourages Dan from voicing his gut reactions about a story beat.

It's very different than Arin's Sequilitis stuff. Arin presents things as facts when it's his or other peoples' opinions, but Barry is just being as concrete as possible about why his opinion is the way it is. And along the way he's complimenting aspects of the game, being much more fair about things.

It appears (based on the comments at the end of the video) like they've reached a point where they're going to take a break from GoW. Sucks, because I was *really* enjoying the commentary on that one. I hope they pick it back up.

Man, this red coin bowling stage in Mario Maker.

I had no idea you could reset checkpoint flags like that. That is both clever and extremely considerate of the level-maker, to have basically created a persisting hub for his puzzle stage. A more cruel level maker would have made you do every bowling stage in one run.

  • Options
Kai_SanKai_San Commonly known as Klineshrike! Registered User regular
The kaizo trainer level Arin did for a while did the same thing, but forced it. Getting a check point flag on one side makes the other available again, so makeshift save points were made using that.

Only issue has always been that, if you get all the red coins and get a key, the key isn't saved. So if you get the key and die, you go back to the check point with no coins. HUGE bummer there. The best way to avoid that is put the door inbetween the forced check points which should be a safe room.
