Damn, Arin has made two correct guesses now, one last episode and one in this one when he was joking around. I wonder if he was spoiled on something.

He's following a walkthrough, but I thought it was "spoiler-free" when it was mentioned.

Gotta be honest. Arin beat that world 2 boss faster than a lot of the legit SMM2 players. Most of them are way too aggressive about it, he just waited it out.

Then he proceeds to die repeatedly in one of the easiest, most traditional levels Ross made.

Well at least we got to see a ton of that level. 3-1 is likely one of Ross' most impressive looking levels. The beginning just flat out feels like a real NSMB level.

And we have arrived at what really is the last terrible level.

I always look at the scroll bar previews near the end to see how far Arin got. I was confused when I saw him on the map then in the same level. Then I saw the 69 lives.

ARIN YOU LOST 74 LIVES IN THIS ONE LEVEL?

I am keep mental tabs on how long the series might end up. Granted some of the harder levels have yet to hit, but currently at 11 epidosdes for 3.2 worlds, that would put them at like 30 episodes maybe? To finish. Would would be roughly equal to 90 older ones. Still not the longest series!

But I have a very, very strong feeling he is going to get hard stuck on a level coming up shortly. It doesn't need any tricks, but the input timing can be super hard to figure out. His attrition at least has been solid though so he likely will get it.

I know this is super old hat, but having returned to grumps after probably more than a year i have to say, the naming structure of youtube vids is crap. Couldnt they just put a small number in the bottom corner of the the thumbnail for us? I have to constantly check to make sure im on the right one in the sequence.

That being said, its nice to see that nothing has changed as far as the content.

Ah yes, I'm sure they're willing to take a lot of risks when they have employees to pay.. nah there is an established playbook most channels use to survive these days, and gaming content on youtube is getting eaten by Twitch. It's not surprising they've had to change things to keep relevant with how modern youtube works. Things have changed since 2012, 2015, etc.

I really don't want to see them play Danganronpa 2 and 3. Arin is so annoying with this game. Complaining about stuff being repeated and then complaining that stuff doesn't make sense even though the stuff being repeated reinforces the stuff he complains about not making sense.

Arin long ago started being so reactionary towards things he doesn't think make sense in Danganronpa that he stopped actually paying attention to the game... which just means that he finds things that don't make sense to him constantly. It's like not only can he not see the forest for the trees, he's loudly complaining that it's stupid someone put so many trees here when it's not a forest.

It's definitely a bummer because Dan has been really fun this playthrough and I want to see how he'd enjoy the rest of the games.

I watched the anime, found out what the twists are, and can't wait for Danny in particular's reactions.

Also I desperately want them to play another Mega Man game, if at least for a few episodes. Surely it wouldn't kill the channel to at least play through to the end of the first Bonne family attack in the first game.

Runner-up for things I want the Grumps to do that they never will:
    - Play Mega Man Battle Network just so I can hear Dan's reaction to learning that game's version of Mega Man is the reincarnated soul of the co-protagonist's twin brother who died at birth.
    - Do a commentary track for the 90's Sonic OVA where Sonic is an arrogant prick the whole movie and pretty much has to be begged by Tails and two other characters to go stop the end of the world (also Sonic's home is a huge base that for some reason incorporates both a 747 and the Starship Enterprise).

    https://youtu.be/-VOOPJ8qP5I

I think Danny would at least appreciate the OST.

Yeah, it seems that there's really not much actual "game" in there at all. As far as I'm aware the story is the same every time, there are no branches besides apparently there are a few different endings, one of which is more of a "game-over" which they would have gotten for exposing Kyoko's lie earlier. Oh but wait, you can talk to all of these fun characters to unlock unique abilities! Which clearly do absolutely nothing significant since Arin has survived just fine without them! And the only penalty for messing something up is you have to rewind the conversation 10 seconds and try again.

I'm enjoying this in the same way I would enjoy an episode of Mystery Science Theatre 3000; the subject matter may or may not be entertaining on its own, but its definitely more entertaining with Arin and Dan riffing over the top of it. I just wish I hadn't been spoiled about the main plot twist which is almost definitely coming next episode.

i kinda am awaiting the end of dinglerumpus because to be honest, literally nothing about it appeals to me. and that's a total me thing and not their problem, but from the art-style, the character design, to the cynical tone of a bunch of jerks or semi-jerks with secrets jerking around each around doing murders to each other. just a genre of anime i don't dig, and i really don't like VNs for my Game Grumpage as far as entertainment value.

again these are all me issues but i just wanted to exorcise those thoughts because i am glad if the series is a hit to them and the other fans, but i am glad for Super Ross World because Dongtownrumbles days are write-offs for me. i try not to complain in the creator's spaces unless i have a moral issue, so airing a complaint like this is why i appreciate this board.

Yeah we reached the point where things start getting good. Giant man is likely the last truly silly level. Even though Ross has a significant soft spot for it.

I never really liked how his intro level is basically a tribute to how he used to design things. It sets a bad tone for a great world and in combination with world one having another of his oldest levels shortly after heavily influences you to think something like Lead The Lads is an exemption.

It might be a while but I can’t wait till world 6. It has overall the highest quality imo and two absolutely solid, challenging straight platforming levels. That also happen to be very visually well designed too.

New vid up and the should-be infamous "Release the Kraken" level gets a short clear.

Fun facts about that one. Ross hates that level with a passion. He tried to fix it, and ended up just removing a previous clear condition to keep the bullet head powerup. But that didn't make him not hate it still, so he also did another thing.

If anyone regularly plays SMM2 levels you would note that cheese is a thing. And the big one that should stand out here is that the entrance and exit to the underwater part is on the main part of the world, with the flag. This means that they are on the same map and connected. Normally to avoid cheese, a good designer will put a wall so you can't just get over to the other side. With say, a tool like a bullet head powerup that lets you fly halfway across a level.

Except Ross hates this level. So he intentionally allowed that cheese to exist. So much so, he wrote the message "I HATE THIS LEVEL" as you fly across. All you need to do is go in the first pipe, grab the powerup, come back out, and hold jump to shoot across to the end pipe.

I am watching Arin attempt the sandstorm level and I am wondering why he doesn’t try to jump on the dry bones during the inclines.

Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

You are correct to question that Munkus! It is legit cheese on the level and very few people think to try it. Ross apparently was told it was a thing but he thought it was too hard to do to bother fixing. Its really easy, and all he should have to do would be to make the temple in the beginning higher so there is no starting incline. I think at that point you would have to do enough of the level before it was an option again it might not be as worthwhile.

However that was the level I thought might super hard stop Arin. He actually did impressively well on it. Getting to the end in less than a full episode. The ending is pretty hard but since you have way more room to work with, as long as you get there enough you can work it out much faster than say, that torch part.

As much as they like to act like they hate her I'm 100% positive the Grumps will miss Genocide Jill showing up to say some weird shit before fucking off once they're done with Danganronpa.

EDIT: I'm obviously behind on these videos, but on the Feb 19th Danganronpa episode
Dan's reaction to Makoto showing up on screen was the most hilarious "what" I've ever heard.

EDIT 2: I need to rewatch the anime sometime and imagine that Makoto is having these super over-the-top internal monologues like he does in the game. It would be hilarious to imagine him saying them out loud in the anime (where the other characters are comparatively much smarter) for the other other characters to react with "what are you, the Ultimate Drama Queen or something?"

The grumps spend the first ten minutes of the most recent danganronpa episode confused that what they're being told by the game doesn't match the imaginary scenario that happened in Arin's mind and was never even implied to have happened in the game at all

i don't mean to be one of those posters that just comes into the thread to dump on stuff (although that's totally what i'm doing) but i only have time to follow one grumps series rn and this happened to be the one i guess i told myself i have to follow through to the end!

Sometimes but there are a lot of times where Dan corrects Arin, Arin begrudgingly agrees and then 5 to 10 minutes later it is like Dan never said anything and Arin is going off again on how things don't make sense. It really sucks for Dan because I think he is genuinely enjoying the game.

The worst part is apparently he plans on playing Danganronpa 2 at some point and I really really wish he wouldn't.

It's maybe about two minutes during that time. Arin for some reason thinks they were asleep for the two years, Dan says no they had the year of school, then the game explains more and he realizes oh no they were out for a pretty short period of time.

You're right that I have no idea where that idea got into his head from, but it's not that long he's talking about it.

Again the game remains interminable. It's minute five that the mastermind says they're tired of this exposition dump, everyone just figure out the rest on their own. Then a minute later they resume the exposition dump and it continues for 35 minutes.

the Mario Maker episodes are dope. The last episode both involved Arin actually 100% legit accidentally finding the cheese Munkus mentioned, then 15 minutes later deciding to use it. Then going into a level entirely designed to prey on his lack of patience, which has "patience" in the name, and he immediately comments "what was the name of this level? Pyramid of pestilence?" after dying to not being patient.

I'd had the identity of the mastermind spoiled by the anime being referenced in YouTube vids and such, so I did know the big reveal beforehand. Though it is neat seeing how it was done explained and how the game drops the clues to lead you there.
