I just got assraped on the first map. Big... claw shrimp... things. Very messy.
My party was a Landschekenekean-ramma-damma-dingdong, a Protector, and in the back, Survivalist, Medic, and Alchemist.
Am I missing soemthing? It's been about 10 years since I played a Wizardry game, so I'm a bit rusty in this whole "fuck you right up the ass" style first person RPG.
I like EGM, Gamepro, and Nintendo Power. Is this game good anyone? Out of ten?
This game is outstanding. It's hard to give it a review on a scale of 1-10 because of how easy it would be for someone to hate it for the very same reasons I adore it. In my book it's a 9, but someone who hates dungeon crawls and grinding would instantly give it a 1 and say it sucks.

Was it a Stalker? Sounds like a Stalker. Avoid those things like the plague when you first encounter them.
Is there any way to just stand still as a move? FOEs seem to move when you do, which is annoying if you're trying to slip by one that patrols but you're out of phase with it.

I just move back and forward until the foe moves where i want it to be then I press on.

Moving back and forth between two squares usually does the trick. Stuff that actually patrols instead of just wandering a particular area waiting to rape you doesn't deviate from its path. Stuff that's waiting to rape you that is far out of your league and meant for you to avoid, like Stalkers, have other limitations on their movement or sight.

Someone gimmie a rundown of all the classes. The Manual is somewhat vauge on it.
Landskrecht = Warrior
Survivalist = Archer
Protector = Knight
Alchemist = Mage
Medic = Healer
Dark Hunter = all-around, I guess, but he can also restrain enemy movement.
Dancer/Troubadour = stat booster.
Someone gimmie a rundown of all the classes. The Manual is somewhat vauge on it.
Protector - Tanking warrior. Takes damage real well, can buff party defenses and can hit back decently. Think of a Greek or Spartan Hoplite. They also can pick up some healing spells. Disadvantage is they don't get any boosts to their attack stats.
Landschnekt - Smashing warrior. Takes damage well until you make them berserk for an attack boost. Hits hard. Think Conan. Also the only class that can uses axes which hit for a lot. Going with swords on them switches raw power for flexibility in using elemental attacks and some AoE attacks.
Dark Hunter - Roguish character. Doesn't take damage well and doesn't dish it out well in the beginning. They do have attack stat boosting skills though so they will start hitting pretty hard eventually. They specialize in debuffs with most of their skills being attacks that can apply one. Whips focus on disabling enemy skills while sword skills have more varied effects. Swords do more damage according to some though whips have the only reliable "instakill" skill in the game (in that it will always work if the monster is wounded enough) which is needed for some drops.
Alchemist - Mage character. Blows stuff up real good. Each elemental type has a weak single target spell, a strong single target spell, and finally the AoE spell. They can also use poison spells which just has single target and AoE.
Medic - Healing character. In addition to heals and resses, they can also boost resistances of the party and can be built to hit decently.
Survivalist - Roguish rangery character. I don't have one myself, but they have some good attacks and a number of skills that can help a party out, like raising the rate of ambushing monsters. Uses bows so they can fight from the back row well.
Trabadour - Bard character. Buffs the party, can fight with bows. Also don't have one.
Ronin - Really good attack, low defenses. They can learn up to three stances which boosts stats for a few turns and allow the use of other skills. For example, by spending a turn switching to the overhead stance, I get a big attack buff and a smaller defense buff for 5 turns and can then use a multi-hit slash or fire elemental attack. Only class that gets a passive skill to boost their critical hit rate.
Hexer - Debuffer. Casts spells that inflicts status effects on the enemy. Haven't gotten far enough to unlock it though.
Well, er, "a small crack is visible in the wall of trees in front of you, but you can't pass through it etc"
edit: I guess on re-examination, duh I should mark it with a door.
Those are shortcuts. I mark them with warp icons. At some point you will find the corresponding crack that lets you travel between the two points.
Ahh ok. Is it better form to mark them on the tile you stand on or beyond the wall? Or does the game care?
So, I went back to the takin a nap spawns venomflies clearing in B1F, declined to rest, now I can't get the prompt again. Do I have to wait for the day to pass?
Silly Question 2: Is there any reason to keep this Whitestone I found, or should I just sell it to the half-naked saleswoman? Ditto with this stuff I just got by Chopping some tree...

It's usually meant to be sold. If it's an item used in a quest, you can get more of it.
So, do you guys mark cracks in trees with the door icon?
I skipped the Venomflies... was that a stupid move? I mean, I selected "No" when it asked if I wanted to rest, after that fight stomped me the first time...

I didn't screw myself out of anything did I?
No, you didn't. They just rape you if you're not prepared, that's about it.
on B2F I declined to buy shit from a sorta-hidden soldier and now he's gone for good too. He was all, "I have a totally shitty, weakass sword but, like, I'm not telling you exactly what it is, maybe it's great, dunno. I'll sell it to you for $500". I didn't even have $500 so I flat-out declined. And he was all: fuck you dude, bye.
Etc. etc.
So vexing. I think these moments are the only thing I don't like about the game so far.
edit: I wasn't prepared and they totally raped me. But there are more later.
Does the protector ever get a passive skill that draws the fire of enemies? provoke doesn't seem to be working well and i hate using it instead of attacking.
You actually only need to provoke once, and then it takes effect for the rest of the battle. It's like a self-buff. It's not very reliable, but at level 5 it does make a noticeable difference. (Apparently leveling it past 5 only improves the defense boost and the casting speed, so there's no real point.)
This was the best part of the lyrics for me, since it's all references/in-jokes.
Saitama is a 2ch reference
Eirin is a Touhou music rearrangement reference Gossun is a Iosys Touhou reference
Doman seman is an Iosys Touhou rearrangement reference
It's not by IOSYS, it's a rearrangement of their rearrangement. The doman seman by itself is not nearly as popular as Marisa stole the precious thing, hence my saying it's still primarily a rearrangement of an IOSYS song.
So, how long before you guys were confident enough to delve down to B2F? I'm level 7 (two of my guys are level 5 but they can keep up). I'm still loitering around killing little rats and the occasional mole...
A couple level sevens are good to start with B2F exploration. I only lost one person in my first FOE battle with a balanced level 5/6 party. Just observe the FOE's before you make a move on or past them.

It's a shortsword. You can buy them in the store for 350, but it's a large enough upgrade that it might be worth it if you haven't unlocked it yet.

You can go down way before that, you'll just need to manuver around the FOEs and be careful around the venomflies. Poison ends once you leave the battle, so if you hit them hard enough, they won't get a chance to do too much damage. If you need more than two rounds to kill a group of them, stick to B1F.
Also, I killed a Ragelope, finally. Now for the other... four.
They aren't all Ragealopes....
This game is delightful, and has its hooks in me deeply. I was bummed to run into a friend on the metro this morning because then I had to talk with him and be social on the ride in to work instead of mapping more of BF6.
Hey, is the Moa's 'Rush' (Ouch!) stopped by binding the legs or something else? I think I bound its legs and it still rushed me, but it was late, I had been playing for many hours, and I may have been delusional.
I wasn't feeling very creative when I spawned a new party last night, so I have at L5:
Landsknecht Sakuya (axes; is Double Hit worth putting 5 points into Swords?)
Dark Hunter Marisa (whips and binding skills)
Survivalist Youmu (AGL skills)
Medic Reimu (building toward Salve)
Alchemist Remilia (Fire/Ice; are the 3 elements equal in strength?)
Troubadour Yukari and Protector Alice haven't been recreated yet, but it seems from what everyone's saying that I'll need the Protector badly for F O E...
Fenrir destroyed my level 17 party when his buddies showed up. I tried to bait him and pull him away, didn't work. Trying again at a lunch...
What I did, was went around and killed his little friends... and left about 2... Got into the fight with Fenrir; Unfortunately the other two still came at me and joined, lol, but I had Revive all ready on my Medic, and actually managed to kill all 3 of them (Got 950EXP... CRAZY!).
Made it to the 6th floor, and finally opened that warp. Now I can warp directly to floor 6 from town. I'm excited!

How do I rest? The Pub didn't seem to have that option.

Use an inn. A pub is where you go to get drunk, they don't let you sleep it off there.

The game does not care. I mark them on the tile myself, but placing the icon between the tiles they link also would make sense.

Also, I'm on B4F and those wolves are raping me. I can kill them, but they always take out at least one member of my party. *sigh*
