OH GOD, BEES, BEARS, SLOTHS, GELS, B6 IS AN AWFUL, HORRIBLE PLACE
Ice is key on the second stratum. Gels are weak to it, lots of other stuff resists fire. Just one point in it allowed my alchemist to one shot lots of stuff while I was getting strong enough to survive longer trips.
Well, the first one I guess. I can't get down to B7. I must've missed it somewhere but my map looks almost symmetrical in terms of the parts filled, all that's missing is the bottom half and a crystal door on the right.
To the guy above me: there's a button on the top-right of the reply box that is yellow with an exclamation point in it. That is for spoilering. :P
Also, my current build is:
Dark Hunter - Usually uses viper to poison but I'm going to get his bind skills up to help out later
Landskhtwhatever - Typical heavy hitter. Going with swords for now but I may skill up axes to get 2-hit
Survivalist - I love this guy, he does good damage and I use him a lot to speed up the party and lower the enemy's accuracy
Medic - Invaluable, I can't see how anyone can play without one. Absolutely required for those long, hard battles
Alchemist - Another class I love, I'm currently using him for fire and poison but I figure on getting ice and volt up sometime soon in case I meet fire-resistant enemies
on your map the staircase to lead down to b7 will end up right below the staircase into b6, you get to it by the path that will start in the upper right hand corner, and wraps down and to the left. (you have to enter the room in the middle that is full of three FOE's and run up to the top right corner of that room.
good luck.
thanks Darmak

Once I figured out what each class is capable of, I restarted my game (most notably because I put myself in a tight spot for money; thankfully I lost like an hour and a half of playing only :P ). My current setup:
Protector
Landsnknecht
Dark Hunter
Alchemist
Medic
It seems like a fairly standard group to have in an RPG. I imagine the Dark Hunter can be interchangable with the Survivalist. I was starting on B2, and ran into my first FOE, and now I know what the big deal is! <.<
I have been going with:
two Landsnknecht's
a survivalist,
medic,
and alchemist,
Its been working so far, but now I am maybe thinking of changing one of the Landsnknecht's for a protector, which seems like a popular choice. but then again, if it ain't broke...
(I am so addicted to this game as the bags under my eyes prove)

I noticed Shilleka commits highway robbery when it comes to buying stuff back. You get like, ten percent of the item's value.
I imagine the Dark Hunter can be interchangable with the Survivalist.
Not really. The Survivalist does less damage but is REALLY fast and can get the party free turns while the DH does more damage and can stop the enemy attacking.
Well, now that I type that out it does seem, similar, huh? Anyway, the Survivalist can function effectively in the front or back tho.
That's sick. Money is too hard to come by in this game.
Also, I noticed the bow at the second sword's price range has stronger ATK. So not right.
I decided Alchemists are too awesome to have only one of. I like doing 78 damage.
Ghaleon, come on down.
What floor are you on? I'm on floor B6F, and I'm sitting on 7K en. It's really easy to get money on the 6th floor. I just run and chop some wood on the left, then grab the plants, then go to the mind at the bottom left and I'm set for cash.
Plus new items get made constantly.
I have 2 points into Scavenge (with my Medic) and it works great!

The second, still. :? I'm making a snail's progress.
It's alright cj, just give it time. When you reach the later levels you'll start raking in the money. Heck, one chest I found had 2000 en in it... I think that was onf B4F.
Iolo,
I agree. I HATE how she talks. It hurts my brain.

I've killed two FOEs, and they both lead to dead ends(one with treasure), so I'll reach the third soon. Now I'm going with my Alchemist War Party to cook some deer.
(Landskrecht(Elena) / Protector(Maken)
Alchemist(Zilia) / Medic(Rebecca) / Alchemist(Ghaleon) )
Even at level 2, Ghaleon was doing 50 damage. Volt.

But with two alchemists you'll be needing to rest even more often to get TP back. So you'll be losing even MORE moneez.

But just think of all the cash I'll make from deer steak.
Land-guy (focusing on axe skills)
Dark Hunter (focusing on whip skills)
Alchemist
Troubador (for defense and speed boosts, trying to unlock the TP restore song)
Medic (pumping his Curer stats)
I find that my Medic, Dark Hunter, and Alchemist do what they do very well and I definitely want them in my party. My Land-whatever is just the generic heavy-hitter, I could take him or leave him, I plan on replacing him with a Ronin eventually anyway. Does anyone think I should trade him or my Troubador in for a Protector? Or even a Survivalist? Also, how/when will I know if I've screwed up with my dudes' skill points?

The Landskrecht is good for dealing solid damage, but I like having a Protector around to add flavor.
Does anyone know how to respec your skill points? I know I saw the option to rest in the Explorer's Guild place, and it's gray'ed out, and I can't seem to do it.

Troubadors get very, very good later on. The TP restoration song alone will make your troubador worthwhile, and everything else will just be a bonus.
Protectors are good -- I would say too good -- because they have all those defensive skills and Smite, which does ridiculous damage. However, the troubador's Shelter (+defense) is slightly more effective than the protector's Defender, and doesn't have to be reapplied every five turns. So if you already have a troubador, there's one less reason to go for a protector.
You've probably already screwed up your skill builds, you just don't know it yet. :P Everyone does. Don't worry about it. Once you get to the point where you can reset your skill points, you'll probably have a much better idea as to which skills you want, and which you don't. (Additionally, some skills are much more useful early-game than late-game, and vice-versa.)

Is there something I"m missing?
A character has to be level 30 before you can respec it.
How is the poison land rate on FOE later on? I'm up to floor 5 and I had an insanely hard time landing it on a scyther. And a not so great rate on some other monsters. About 5 in toxins, 5 in the single target poison so far.
I must say, though I've discovered many games that I want through these boards, Etrian Odyssey is the first one I have bought purely on recommendation from the PA boards (most games I want just happen to have wider appeal), and I couldn't be more pleased about it. PA let me know exactly what there was for me to love about this game. When I was on the fence over whether this game was "for me" or not, lo, this thread showed me the way. Awesome.

You mean the first staircases or the subsequent ones? B6 and B7 get maddening at times.

No, the real ripoff is that fucking Inn. Does the cost to sleep and nap EVER go down? It's up to over 200 in my game!
Glad I finally found the spring...

Considering that they mention she has a hard time maintaining her business, I figured she saves her shopping money to keep the place open.
You'd think she'd be rich with the way she runs things.
But you're her ONLY CUSTOMERS.
Seriously, who else do you see going in there?
Considering that anyone who shops there goes into the Labyrinth, and everyone else is either dead or retired...
The Landskrecht is good for dealing solid damage, but I like having a Protector around to add flavor.

No.

But it's a great game. Between this and pokemon one could cease to exist
Cool. For maximum pleasure, don't forget to stop by the homebrew thread. There are things you still need.
