Dad of War: Axe Me About My Son[God of War]

I wanted to take Friday off to enjoy this, which I didn’t think would be a problem since I never take days off or take vacations.

But as soon as I marked Friday on the calendar in the office for myself my father decides he wants to head to the Florida Keys this week to go fishing and that he’ll leave, oh, Thursday. Just to be an ass.

Which would leave just one employee in the front office answering calls and dealing with customers.

Which means I have to come in Friday because it’d be a really shit move to leave him out there alone doing a two person job.

This is the father/son relationship I’ll be reflecting on while playing this game Friday evening.

I've avoided everything I can about this, but I'm guessing he's either wrenching them open without looking for a latch or anything, or just smashing them open?

I've seen chests of various sizes being opened various ways, but for the small ones? Yes. It's great. He literally just punches through the top of the chest to grab whats inside.

Is there an auto preload thing to check? I found the manual way to doing it (go into your library and find the game there, then select download to preload it)?

I don't know what settings there are, my PS4 just started downloading it when I turned it on.

Auto-download is usually on by default when you preorder something on PSN. I have had a few experiences in the past where it didn't work and I had to manually start the download, though.

Digital Foundry's review made it sound like the Pro's main benefit is that it can handle the game without sounding like an aircraft during liftoff.

I definitely plan to play on performance mode instead of graphics mode, because the game is already gorgeous enough. I don't need to almost make my PS4 melt just to push the graphics from a 9.99999999 to a 10.0

I'm not sure I have as much an issue with "judder" as the DF guy does, but I think I'll probably choose 4K Mode.

I just got a delay notification from Amazon. My God of War is being held up in Columbus Ohio.

Delivery not expected tomorrow as promised. Their new window is April 21-24, with no real time frame given.

This is awful.

Sadly I have to do my job tomorrow but afterwards it's allllll god of war all the time. Gonna stream as much of it as I can thanks to the elgato I got and such. Looking forward to it having only ever played like half of God of War 1. I'm going digital because amazon has been a jerk about release day delivery games lately. Ok, so I knew this was a revamp but it's semi-open world/slightly non-linear (that's what I take from this quote)? I'm not expecting GTA V, but if they give us a Legacy of Kain style non-linear experience, yowza. 6 hours and change to go.

My tax money came yesterday, too late for a pre-order. I'm taking off work tomorrow at 10AM and roaming from bestbuy to target to gamestop to wallmart to see if I can get lucky on one of those Pro bundles. Probably won't work out, so I'm tempering my expectations. When my plan inevitably fails, I'll return to Gamestop and buy the stand-alone game and play it until I run out of vodka.

How is Gamestop out of copies? Are you in a smaller market. I just walked into mine and grabbed a pre-order. If not today, I can not imagine all three of those places being sold out; also the "pre-order bonus" is likely inside the game like it is for a lot of these new releases. The Gamestop "exclusive" pre-order bonus is the only bonus that is explicitly stated to be on your receipt so I think you'll be fine if that's what you were worried about.

From the limited amount of non-spoilery shit I've heard... I think you're going to be happy. That is my prediction.

On the Giant Bombcast, they mentioned that the boy will sometimes give you hints that amount to "hmm, I wonder what tool we could use to help with this thing", implying A) the thing is actually a thing of note, and you don't have the thing you need yet.

So like, Metroidvania-ish? Tomb Raider reboot ish?

The areas are fairly linear, I believe. Decent in size, but not really open-worldy. Lots of little offshoots to explore if you want, though, and the kid will be like "Hey, maybe we should see what's down that way?". "Really big Skyrim dungeons" is the impression I get from the game.

Yeah, I'm actually kind of getting a Darksiders 2 vibe from it, without the heavy focus on loot.

Linear, but not too linear, with a good moveset, varied upgrade paths, and lots of dungeon romps.
