Okay, so in MWO the success of me with my Timber Wolf hinges entirely upon my teammates. I can't outright brawl like my Bushwacker can, so I need backup. My ranged attacks are sparse so for them to be meaningful I need to be careful about what I'm targeting, making sure I'm supporting targets my team is going after - and that becomes moot if my team abandons a target.

Honestly the Timberwolf isnt that great of a mech, it has very limited space kind of shoehorning you into a few builds.
My personal preference is LRMs with a bandolier of small lasers, considering clan SLs are basically IS MLs.

Right now I'm working with the LRM20s and a bunch of small pulse lasers & MGs. I think if I up my torso turn speed I should be okay against those annoying small runners.

Alternatively, here's my brawling Timber Wolf build that works the best for me:
Guys. I went on an assassinate mission, and ran into a Quickdraw and an Orion. My lance started taking a pounding.
And then freaking Glitch, in a feat which will keep her in prime rib all year, punched AC/20 rounds through both of their heads, on successive turns.
Then the RNG gave me all of their parts.
So now I have a Quickdraw and an Orion. Ho, ho, ho.
One thing that make me reload saves:
Travelling to another system, deploying for a mission.. and seeing I didn't tell Yang to repair my freaking mech while we were travelling.
Damn it Yang, you asked for those burgers! It's not my fault you and your entire team are crap at burger flipping! Do your damn jobs!

What does Artemis do for SRMs, practically speaking?
Better spread, so you can do more concentrated damage at longer ranges.
edit:
as an aside, Artemis also works on SSRMs, gibing you better lock times at no extra weight. That is a bug, but one they've been unwilling or unable to fix since the game's inception.
I think I know the answer here, but I should probably find a way to max the armor on everything I got by like, stripping a couple of the less-useful weapons off, huh? Like the AC/2s on my Blackjack?

I haven't tested it yet, but I like to think that this applies to ATMs, too. I mean, I know it likely doesn't...but dammit, let me dream!

For my Blackjack I went with 1 AC5 and 1 PPC.. it ran hot as hell, but I liked it.
Better load out with be 1 AC5 with 1 or 2 tons ammo, then all the armor, medium lasers, and heatsinks and jumpjets you can fit.

Honestly I can see them reusing the same locking code, so it probably does.
I'm taking my nice sweet time going through the campaign (I'm a busy boy with too many hobbies is what it really comes down to) and just finished up Weldry.
Looks like the game is really going to open up now, I'm excited.
Is there a better high end LRM boat than the Stalker? All the heavier builds I've played with are constrained by hard points or torso space.
Not until and unless the Longbow is added, no.
The Highlander-733 is a better missileboat IMHO. It has 4 missile slots and can pack in 4 LRM20s. Or more realisticly 2 LRM20s and 2 LRM15s (or 3 LRM20s I guess).
The Highlander-733 is also a craaaazy midranger. I've decked mine out with 1xAC/20, 1xML,1xSRM6, 3xSRM4, 3xJump jets, 1xCockpit++, 1xGyro (-30 stab damage), 2xAC/20 ammo, 2xSRM ammo, fill out with heatsinks and 1460 tons of armor.
If I'd skipped the jump jets I could have packed in more weapons (like 4xSRM6s and another laser, giving me an insane 468 points of alphastrike), but I like jump jets I guess. Regardless, with Called Shot mastery and a little bit of luck you can punch holes through the CT of a Banshee.

Hmm...so it seems there's a light mech event going on (deal 250 damage, get 1 kill or KMDD, and get 5 assists...redeem for 100MC and a decal). Went out with the Urbie-K9, 312 damage, 6 assists, 3 KMDD, and brought down a trial Catapult. Guess it's time to bring out my light-hunting Streak-Stormcrow...

I enjoyed it, but have some issues with it. The UI is pretty atrocious. Its really poorly optimized.
Wish some LostTech showed up a little bit more often. I think there was only a single Gauss Rifle in the whole game.
Bring on the DLC.
I was not really expecting lostech given the game's setting so its rarity is fine to me. Hopefully this game sells well enough so that a sequel campaign can give us the endorphin high from legging Clan mechs for that sweet sweet salvage.
Black lives matter.

So I finished that Grave Robbing mission everyone was talking about.
Went looking for some Hard Hard Contracts outside of the Periphery and found a couple of 4.5-5 skulls. Gave them a go.
While I CAN handle two lances of assaults... my god is it ever a SLOG.

Aw man... a Light Event?!?!?! I need to log in!!!
Edit: But I'm away from my desktop...
Double Edit: Woo, logging in for a few.
Triple Edit: Done in 2 games. Thanks for the head's up and free MC.

In the inevitable and obvious Clan Invasion DLC I hope they keep you in the ass end of the Inner Sphere and you have earn your way to area where the Clans are. Finding some Lostech along the way and then getting that Clan Tech.

I pounded another Thunderbolt down to 3 wounds and then took a single called AC5 shot to take out its side torso for a final wound. Two ammo explosions, CT destroyed. FUUUUUUUUUUUCK~

I largely gave up on trying to take mechs with ammo in their CTs intact eventually.

I either peashoot with autocannons and core it if I miss or sandpaper out with LRMs and MGs and hit the legs if I don't get some head hits. One knockdown from LRMs, one from leg destruction, one side torso destroyed... you need a head hit to get somebody via injuries

Oh god, mistakes were made.
I jumped to a system with a Martian climate.. and had to do two missions to be able to afford to jump back out.
all of the overheating damage!
...and of course, the first mission, Negotiated for max Cash had me run into my first Grasshopper, killed the pilot but the RNG gave me an LRM and a heatsink.
Next mission I (almost) maxed out salvage, and got an Orion-K, it is not quite the LRM boat of it's brother the Orion-V, but it'll find a place in the squad.
and now I'm selling a bunch of stuff to afford that last bit of the payment, because whoops, repair bills were a bit higher than anticipated. turns out an 80 ton Vehicle with dual AC/20s is not a good thing to let get the drop on you.

4xSRM6+Artemis, 4xMPL, and a pile of DHS.
EDIT - the alternative, if you want jump jets, is to take on the -S left torso, drop the MPLs to ERML, and pick up a TarComp Mk2 to eat up the remaining 2t and 2 crit slots.

its why i just blow the legs.
Much safer, less headache, and easier.
but I'm still afraid of using them. They are the elixers of this game, I horde them, and end up beating the game having not used one.

It's Unity! IT'LL WORK.
My computer is way better than an iPad and I'm dissatisfied with how it struggled with this game though
I think I would find an iPad version unplayable unless they made a whole new game with a lot less stuff
I figure if Civ VI is fine, this would be.
Edit: Mostly I just wanna play at not a computer 'cause ow my wrists and shoulder and ow.
can you install steam on the tablet and just use in home streaming?
