I hope they have a few mini-dexes lined up/planned (like Ynnari).

This probably occurs a LOT in the lore. Ordo Xenos Inquisitor taps both Deathwatch and a Knightly House for assistance dealing with a threat. I mean they would probably also take a ton of Guard or Planetary Defense Force (PDF) with them as well, but that is the difference between narrative campaigns vs just using the lore as a springboard to play and throw dice at eachother.

It is my sincere hope that Ynnari get their own full codex with Ynnari Guardians and Ynnari Kabalites and so on, with no cross referencing other codices or weird extra rules to tell you what other rules not to use.
Ideally this would allow the points and such to be balanced instead of borrowing the points from other books and hoping they work… but I’ll take it just to keep a lid on the cross-references.

I’d argue that GW should be sorting out the Craftworld range and getting things like Aspect warriors (and rangers and I’ll add Incubi) into plastic. Maybe redo some if not all Phoenix Lords.

But yes it would be nice to seem some units match the Visarch aesthetic (plastic Incubi would come pretty close)

Now a question about the Primus marines I kind of want to get them seeing the Deathwatch previews and it helps distract me from my current woes
But will there be a kit to convert the shoulders or such to have that Deathwatch look?
Do they use the same pads as space marines?

  • BadablackBadablack Registered User regular
Primaris marines use the same shoulder pads as regular marines, and there’s already deathwatch upgrade kits with a bunch of different chapter shoulders to use.

    WinterSEO has his stuff up.

All the units cost the same. Bolt weapons cost 1 pt making DW cost a single point more and combi-bolters are 4 points more. But that means 19 pt intercessors with all the specialist ammunition.

Yea the Primaris Deathwatch stuff is going to be great. So far I haven't seen any reviewers mention regular Deathwatch Veteran point costs, it would be a shame if they stay ridiculous.

Edit: Wait, if nothing changes then the standard MEQ Deathwatch Veteran will cost more than the Intercessor, who is strictly superior in every way. There must be some information missing.

I really have a feeling with the rumor they are redoing the Craftworlders they will bring them out as a preview or such when the Ynnari codex comes out

Still I am tempted to get the Deathwatch codex just to play with pickle marines but I just don't know as I might get them just to update my Black Templars so choices in the face of doom hmm

The impression I'm getting is that Deathwatch is strictly superior to the basic Space Marine Codex, unless you're running something very specific like a Gulliman gunline?

Deathwatch Veterans are currently 19 points a model, so down two would put them at 17, I'd hope the number is 15 but whatever we'll find out soon.

Models are 15, but 17 total because your pistol and bolter cost a point each because you get the special ammo.

All the bolt weapons cost 1 point more, storm bolters/combis are 2 points more.

You get your tactic which is basically your chapter/legion ability. At the start of the game pick a role choice (troop, heavy support, etc.) and your infantry, bikers, and dreads get to reroll wound rolls of 1 against them.

You get space marine captains/chapter masters to improve the rolls. And then you get a stratagem that is basically veterans of the long war for a type of enemy.

And then your mix kill teams also give you abilities.

I know the primaris ones. Aggressors let you either run and shoot assault weapons with no penalty or move and shoot heavy weapons with no penalties. Reavers give you terror troops+shock grenade. Inceptors let you fall back and shoot like you have the fly keyword. Hellblasters give you hellblasters.

So having full primaris kill teams is neat.

Normal kill teams get stuff as well.

You get special ammo, the mix and match squad complements, and the "trait" gives rerolls against specific units types.

Found out last night while playing the last two games of the horrible game risk legacy that someone I used to play 40K with years ago still goes to this LGS on Friday and Saturday.

I generally have a lot of trouble playing with people I don't know now (not something that was an issue back then) so I've been avoiding going to play 40K with anyone but my brother who has his own Death Guard army or my friends who play my armies though one friend is like 2 Custode bike boxes away from finishing his 2k Custodes.

I feel pretty confident about playing with this person I have not seen in years. He is crazy good at the game and always kicked my ass but he was never a jerk about it and helped me learn the game really well.

Just got back from my FLGS.

I had my Imperial B-Hole torn asunder by Necron shenanigans, but on the upside I was able to pick up some magnets so I can finally finish assembling the arms on my Leviathan Dreadnought, which means I can paint him this week, which means I can bring him next Saturday, which means I can (hopefully) stomp some xenos ass.

Honestly though the Redemptor Dreadnought arms look really good on a Leviathan body, so I am thinking of magnetizing those arms as well. If I do that than I can run the Leviathan with Redemptor arms as a counts as Redemptor, since they're both about the same size and I think the Redemptor kinda looks dumb.

Transdimensional B-Hole ripper, I would assume.

I'm going to use my Necron army, possibly for the first time since Keenbean faced it at NOVA 2013, in a 50 PL escalation league today. After reading the codex cover to cover, I'm really excited about playing them again.

    Pretty much.

I needed to concentrate on individual units more, but Necron melta and the dynasty trait that gives their shots -1 AP at half range are a pretty powerful combo.

Freeblade is a guy who is able to provide a huge boost to the war effort on a very local level, but lacks the ability to transport himself about easily as he no longer has the support of a full knightly house. He's essentially hitchhiking across the galaxy by promising his sword to whoever has a ship and a destination where he can make a difference and/or complete his personal quest.

If he's on a hunt to take down the warboss/tyrant/other filthy xenos that killed his family and dishonoured his house, and ends up alongside Deathwatch doing pretty much the same mission, could easily see him swearing an oath to them and tagging along for a while, at least whilst they track down his Nemesis...

I'm planning out a Deathwatch army, and my idea is to have marines from each of the chapters I'd love to have an army of.

I've costed Deathwatch shoulder pads at Pop Goes the Monkey, and to get the separate ones I want, I'm going to spend about $75. Thats for 5 separate sets of shoulder pads. So I'm going to have a lot of pads I don't need.

Melta? You mean on the Triarch walker thingy? That's the only one I can think of in the list off the top of my head.

And yes, beating Necrons means picking one unit and killing it dead/ past the threshold where the unit can survive a failed morale test.

    What are you running?

Command Barge, 10 Warriors, 10 Immortals, 10 Flayed Ones, 6 Scarabs, 5 Deathmarks, 3 Heavy Destroyers.

I ended up playing Custodes, and the results the Open War deck gave us ( we used it at my insistence) were kind of hilarious. Supply Cache objective (find which objective is the real one, and whoever holds it on turn 5 wins) with Orbital Debris (roll 3d6 at the start of every turn. For every 6 pick an enemy unit to take D3 Mortal Wounds) & Dead of Night (vision starts at 12." Each round, on a 4+, that extends 6".)

I killed 2 Custodes by the end of turn 5 (technically 3, but the first one was because he got pummeled by flaming space rocks). That particular setup really helped him and hurt me, because I lucked out and had the Supply Cache on my side of the board, so he bunched all his custodes around the HQ that had a +1 to BS aura, marching them down the board and I couldn't shoot them until turn 3. (BTW, never had a 40K game reach turn 3 in 10 minutes before!)

Those 3 models were like, a quarter of his army, and with wounds spread through other units, I'd taken off more than 1/3 of his army's total wounds. In return, I'd lost the scarabs, the flayed ones, five warriors, 2 destroyers, and a deathmark. Not as unbalanced a tradeoff as it may seem, but once he sat his army down on the Supply Cache, there was no way I was going to shift him off of it before the end of the 5th turn.

Especially given the fact that out of 18 eligible models, include command point buffs, I made _1_ Reanimation roll, and the heavy destroyers failed to hit even once.

Here's the bottom of turn 2, before I deepstruck the Flayed Ones, Deathmarks, and Veil of Darkness'd the Barge and Immortals behind the Custodes.

He's got a really boring list, but is also really worried about his not-boring units

But he also has the stupid-boring Forgeworld 'Thrope.

    On youtube I recommend:

Table Top Tactics-Excellent reports, they know the rules, are very entertaining, lists range from fluff to competitive. Run by Lawrence aka the Spider who is one of the best British players. Also the models are super well painted.

WinterSEO-A more relaxed report set. Winter is British as well but great looking armies usually more fluff sided.

Glacial Geek-I just like him. He really enjoys his games. Plays almost 100% Dark Angels verse whoever is in the store. His Thin Coats and Deep Thoughts are kind of chill talks about the state of the game and stuff.

Frontline Gaming puts up nice sped up 30 minute battle reports. This is ITC competition lists from some of the best. You can learn a ton from watching.

Warhammer TV does one every week but the vod requires a subscription.
