Today's preview of the harlequins shows it's a skills challenge and well I know the robot shows it can be done a lot easier than you think
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_TZ6hp1ZGs

But they also show well painted cop outs

  • BurnageBurnage Registered User regular
I still haven't painted those Harlequins I picked up because I'm terrified that I'll fuck up the diamond patterns.

I might just paint them up as Reaper's Mirth, since that avoids the difficulties and I like their colour scheme anyway. As an added bonus I should be able to use any Masque rules with them.

Since all of the bikers are troops, that means that hypothetically you can put out 60 shots that wound on 2's and reroll 1's if you're in rapid fire range and using the DW troop tactic (and your aggressors, inceptors, intercessors, and vets all get that too). If you replace one of those bikes with a vanguard vet you can also fall out of combat and shoot in the same turn, but lose some firepower. You can throw a couple of the veteran squads in the corvus to tool around in, and your primaris kill teams can still move/advance (depending on the squad) and shoot without penalties due to the aggressors.

I tried out my big 9 zoanthrope warp blast tyranid list recently, with mixed results. The first game was against Tzeentch daemons, which was a bit of an uphill match with a Lord of Change denying all my stuff on a +2. And not very conclusive, as he popped a supercharged Infernal Gateway that exploded out and killed said Lord of Change as well on turn 2. This lead to him chucking the $100 model across the room and gracefully conceding the match. So not much of a chance to try anything out there.

Next game was against the million ork march. I had never played orks this edition, and they were quite rude about waking me up. Ghaz + banner + 90 Boyz stomping down the field are a tough nut to crack for a mostly psychic list with little antihorde options. Ended up losing that one 10-12, and would have been tabled easily if 9 zoanthropes with feel no pain saves weren’t the most impossible thing in the world to kill.

    Who does this?

Also how do you guys feel about concessions in general? If there's nothing going on and the person who is losing heavily (myself or my opponent) doesn't have an opportunity to end the game early and start another one I don't mind playing games out to the bitter end. I've seen some surprising upsets as well as a few glorious Last Stand moments in games where either I or the person I am playing (usually I) is getting trounced. Plus, if you are fairly sure you are going to lose, that gives you an opportunity to experiment with your units. I once took the last wound off of a Gorkanaut (or was it a Morkanaut?) with a close combat attack after a charge from a hovering Stormtalon (who was itself on its last wound) because I thought it would be funny and wanted to see what would happen (and I figured the Stormtalon would be dead on the next turn from the naut's guns anyway). The resulting explosion killed the Stormtalon and earned it a glory badge painted on the side.

Played against my brother's Death Guard with my Necrons. It was kind of rough at first for me because he got 3 bloat drones in close real quick. In the end one Sautekh Battalion with 20 Tesla Immortals and an Overlord with the Sautekh stratagem is hard to deal with.

Edit: playing against my brother is getting really annoying. He always complains every fucking chance he gets when I do anything. It is massively frustrating. I had 15 wounds on his bloat drone and he started whining and bitching and saying he is just gonna roll to see if it blows up and I forced him to roll the saves and he took 1 wound.

    So annoying.

During my match with the ork player, he asked me if I wanted to concede on turn 3. The score was 3-6. I think I just live in a concession-heavy environment. Which is crazy to me, because I didn’t drive through shitty traffic and shittier weather to the local gaming store just to pack my stuff up after a few turns.

It was incredibly annoying to be asked this though, and I deeply regret losing that match. My only consolation is that the game dragged on to turn 7 and I was still trucking.

I have a couple of those old heresy era heavy bolters with the drum magazines and they look awesome. I got them with a ten man squad of mk3 marines when some people in my meta all got together and split a couple Burning of Prospero boxes.

Worst case scenario is you can get five, and then have four to give away or trade to people.

I'll concede sometimes if i'm taking a beating and either of us has another game lined up or its getting late or something.
I'd never ask the opponent to concede though, that sounds like a dick move tbh

When the conclusion is decided without a doubt I'll concede. Such as 1 Aspiring Sorcerer against most of an Eldar army. But not before.

In the chapter approved missions (and Age of Sigmar, where the missions are similar) which have you accumulating points every turn, sometimes things shake out so one player will not be able to make up the points after a certain point, sometimes I'll concede then, though obviously in a proper tournament you want to play through to the end to try and wrack up as many kill points as possible for the overall rankings.

  • McGibsMcGibs TorontoRegistered User regular
Playing a close game should be fun, and playing a hilariously one sided game should also be fun. I don't think I've ever conceded because I'm losing badly. Only if someone's miserable and clearly doesn't want to keep playing should concedes come into play.

But seriously asking your opponent to concede is a pretty asshole thing to do.

I only concede if it hits turn 5 and I know even if it keeps going mathematically I cannot win. No one asks to concede though in my group.

Last full game I played was verse a Slaanesh army. I won by tabling which is the only way I could win. My opponents last model on the board was Zarakynel. The damn thing was basically bouncing around destroying a unit a turn. I won in the end by finally whittling her down with my defiler who spent 90% of the game tied up with daemonettes.

If I couldn't kill her on that last turn I would of lost in points because we were hitting time.

Last game I played my opponent conceded but I had him down to about 6 lemann russes with their own little angry escorts of my melee units preventing them from shooting at all and no way for him to make up my point lead as he couldn't kill anything except during the overwatch phase.

Building my first Armiger Warglaive, pretty much done with getting it into sub assemblies for painting.

I have a question though. I followed the directions and didn't glue the joints so it retained flexibility, but, now that I've essentially got it in the pose that I like is there a good way to now immobilize the joints so it doesn't move around during painting or playing? Or do folks generally let the limbs stay wiggly?

I’d want to leave the arms at least unglued in case they get a big kit down the line with new weapons in case you want to switch.

It's a fair point though. I'm kind of waiting to see the knight codex before I decide what direction to go in. I've got ~1k in knights at the moment.

Pure Knight could be tempting depending on what exactly the dex brings. Other considerations are Knights + AdMech because that's pretty classic and Knights + Primaris Deathwatch because that sounds really fun and a elite and Xenos stompy.

back when I played 40k last about 2011? the local store had that buy in tourney for prizes and other junk

It sadly attracted 3 people who were complete asses. Two of them were misogynists because in the first couple of games someone brought his girlfriend or friend that was female to it and they laid into her with girls don't play this and other things she did not come back after the 3rd weekend
I did not interact with them that time but in the second round 2 more women show up and the douches brought more people with them. Because of this I and another person started the anti ass league as we refused to play them so preventing them for getting the prizes and Us on a lesser degree in a effort to change them or at least drive them away
It kind of worked in the 3rd leg of it but by then the damage was done

I really want to get back into playing 40k but I hear 2 of the principal people of that clic are still around being anti women in their game

I feel pretty lucky with this for the LGS I go to. The owner can be abrasive but he is very inclusive and will outright kick someone out of the store for being a misogynist and alienating people. In various spots in the room there are framed posters of the store rules.

The card store I go to is also pretty good about it as well but I think one thing that helps is that the wife of one of the owners at the card store also works there and does really awesome alter art for cards. Though in larger tournaments people can still be goosey.

So got back for the London Grand Tournament, ended up 239th out of 440 after some pretty gnarly luck (3 Miscasts back to back in one turn, two lascannon devs and a missile launcher one killing a DP in overwatch...). Opponents were all great guys though.

    The actual event, was garbage.

They held it in a soccer stadium and allocated one hour for registration. Every bag needed to be checked by the venue. 800 players across all events. Registration was due to close at 10. It was still ongoing past 11.

Food was so shambloic that some people didn’t get it in time before they next round.

Couldn’t tell you who the TOs were they didn’t present themselves, everything was done through a pairings app so I would have no idea where to go if I needed on.

Terrain was horrible . Just blocks of insulating foam. You can google if you want, there’s plenty of people upset. Some of it wasn’t even painted (and what was painted was just grey). There was LOS blockers, but they were all in the middle of the table. Almost no area terrain. No ruins, no buildings, rubble, walls, nothing. Unsurprising the event was won by an all custodes bikes list because they just ran to those LOS blockers and then charged.

    Bad all round.

I'm really sad that the London GT was so horribly organised, because it's kind of the flagship unofficial UK tournament and it's giving a bad impression of what the UK scene as a whole is like. There are some good events here, honest!

Something about being rejected a couple times breeds insecurity in certain people. That insecurity easily turns into resentment. And thus a misogynist is born.

Gotta teach these boys to love their hobbies and appreciate platonic relationships BEFORE puberty.

I’d want to leave the arms at least unglued in case they get a big kit down the line with new weapons in case you want to switch.

But then I can buy MORE ARMIGERS

It's a fair point though. I'm kind of waiting to see the knight codex before I decide what direction to go in. I've got ~1k in knights at the moment.

Pure Knight could be tempting depending on what exactly the dex brings. Other considerations are Knights + AdMech because that's pretty classic and Knights + Primaris Deathwatch because that sounds really fun and a elite and Xenos stompy.

The knights codex is rumored to add 4 new units I think?

It has new armiger loadouts and a named character for sure.

I’m afraid it is going to be new big knight, armiger mixed loadout, armiger melee loadout, armiger two gun loadout.

I’m just not 100% sure how fun a list or nothing but big and little knights will be fun to play, with or against.

So today I was helping a club guy try his 2k list for Trios at NoVA. I was giving him pointers. He is a nice guy but kind of crap at list building but we have all been helping the bit we can and I think paid Nanavanti $15 to help list write. It isn't a horrible DA list but at the same time I feel if you are playing Imperium and you don't take 180 points of guard you are missing out on too much for cheap.

My list was my second test of vindicators. I am seeing a point to them and I think they counter some very specific list in a pretty great way. We played trios mission 1. I earned max on every thing. I took breaker for my secondary (earn points based on quartile it was basically kills points), I earned maxed tertiary, and max primaries.

Also we had the center L on the table that was los blocking and ruins and then a lot of terrain around with los and barricades.

I think I got all of it off the top of my head. He kind of built it off his 1k list and built up. I was helping with play and list building and luckily our resident BA player who knows his Imperium shit was there too. It has no guard and not enough hellblasters in my mind for a modern DA list.

Deployment was the one with the 9" bubble in the middle and table quarters. There were 6 objectives. One in each table quarter, two in the middle 6" from the edge. This means either player gets two in their deployment.

I set up a standard bubble of cultist upfront. Kept my vindis on the line but put them down last so that 90% of his fire couldn't hit them meaning if I went second I would get one linebreaker shot off which was what I was testing.

Roll off he gets first turn and I failed to seize.

    Turn 1:
His army moves up but some scouts who jump out of their razorback to take his back objective. His hellblasters move around the corner of the L to see my vindicator. He shoots overcharging with weapons of the dark age but wasn't in double table with them so the vindi lives with 5 wounds. He was deeply castled in that L shape with his flyers hovering with the darkshroud, Azrael bubble, and basically a mini-RG castle.

I move up my vindicators and get a 24" line of sight shot. I linebreaker. Hit 5 units with in the 4" area of the point I chose. I made all 5 of my rolls. Killed all by 1.5 hellblasters, an ancient, 4.5 bikes, and 4 wounds off a razorback and 3 or so off the darkshroud. My Helldrake also was able to sneak behind the enemy and get into a perfect charge to shutdown a razorback and the darkshroud.

Drop some points on the deffy, finish off a few things. Heldrake finishes off the normal bikes with the flamer giving me first blood. I charge, lose two wounds but kill the darkshroud in close combat thanks to some luck and rerolls from daemonforged. My jump lord almost killed Samael with a buffed charge (Intoxicating Elixir+Daemonic Strength) but my opponent made 4 of his 5 saves. I got him down to 3 life. He did honor the chapter and killed my lord in the second round of attacks, I moved alpharius to my other lord.

In turn one my shooting wasn't even crazy and was able to rip a hole in his army. Linebreaker is the castle breaker if you get it off. My opponent made mistakes and I got it off the first turn anyway.

The rest of the game continued to go down hill for him. Heldrake survived all game and gobbled backline after backline.

Possessed came in turn 2 through a warptime and the ruins in the center killing a razorback and its 5 scouts. They ended up killing Azrael and the Lt. The heldrake killed Samuel with overwatch.

At the end I had just spread out and taken 4 of the 6 objectives which he had nothing left on. He had one flyer, two razorbacks with less than 3 wounds and that was it.

I am going to work with him on this list and how to play. He was really gun show for what was a pretty aggressive list with a back end castle to support it because he played a Tau list that shot all his flyers out of the air even with the -1 on the first turn.

I feel I got lucky rolls at first but even so my list was very much built to crack tightly knit castles with vindicators. Even so my army had a bunch of tools left to deal with his army and play to the objectives. Even without the linebreak I would of probably broken his rather elite army with bodies and walls of fire. To me he needs more scouts, more hellblasters, more black knights and maybe fewer assbacks.

@Dayspring I found a use for vindcators. Next time you play the Guilliman or similar SM castle bring 3 and linebreaker it first turn. Teach them to stack all their units together.

Because they're hypocritical geese who need a safe space to hide in so they don't need to reflect upon and change their vile behaviors instead of just blaming everyone else.

My LGS is pretty nice though
