Color me surprised that it's the guy with two swords

Overcharge all the things!!!
It's actually pretty cool, the "black shield" refers to his old chapter insignia. Everyone else is proudly wearing their Ultramarines or Blood Angels or whatever colors on their right shoulders.
...but the Black Shields are guys who showed at the Death Watch's doorstep alone, don't want to talk about what chapter they're from, are accepted with no questions asked and have just the black shoulderpad where their chapter insignia would be.
I really like the little detail of when a Space Marines chapter falls to Chaos it's not unanimous, that there are some guys who say "fuck this" and go join the space fantasy French Foreign Legion.
Veteran Level 1 Passive Ability: Grizzled: This model ignores penalties to its Leadership characteristic and Nerve tests.
Am I interpreting this correctly that the Nerve Test Modifiers on page 36 (namely +1 for each other friendly model that is shaken or is out of action) would not apply to the Veteran?
This would mean that my Veteran Scion with leadership 6 would essentially never be able to become Shaken, which I would love, but, potentially seems too good to be true.
You're misreading.
The first bullet point is any model ("this model may take…"). The second is veterans only and the third is gunners only.
Oh hey, my brain inserted words. This makes sense now!
So, cool. I can give him a sword and shield if I want, or a mace and sword, or a gun and a sword since hey these guys only have 6" base move and I definitely don't want wasted turns with them. Nifty.
I definitely think that my Black Shield will take a power mace + storm shield so he can team up with Mr Thunder Hammer so they can be Best Hammer Bros Forever. It'll play quite nicely with the Rival Chapters Deathwatch Tactic.

It does but it is also a heavy weapon so if I move I'm hitting at -1 which isn't fun. I think a combi weapon would have been way more useful. I have another box of 5 veterans so I'll probably outfit two combi weapon models, a shotgun, and two black shields for fun.

I never fear death or dyin', I only fear never trying.
I honestly think the Heavy specialty is better for a Vet with a Stalker-Pattern than the Sniper specialty is. No penalty for moving and shooting at tier 1, the Suppressor tier 2 talent is nice too. And then the level 1 and level 2 Tactics are pretty good depending on what your needs are.
Downside is you can't have a Heavy-toting front lines Heavy spec'd guy at the same time.

Since you bring a frag cannon for that with its 2d6 autohit you are pretty good to go.
It really just isn't worth using when Heavy is so much more effective for the frag cannon.

I dunno, seems like Veteran or Demolitions would be just as handy.

Add a Heavy Specialist Sniper and the enemy will have nowhere to run, nowhere to hide.
Edit: honestly, looking at the weapons table, might as well do a Vet Gunner Heavy with the Infernus Heavy Bolter instead of a Vet Heavy with the Stalker-Pattern. 3 extra points gets you more range and more damage with the Heavy weapon plus a backup short range Assault weapon. With auto-hit.
Edit Edit: Hmm, you lose the Custom Ammo thing though. And the custom ammo is real good; I don't want to give it up on too many folks.

I use Demo for the Infernous Heavy Bolter because that +1 to wound feels more useful there.
In general I just think the Stalker Pattern Boltgun isn't great on my Leader character that uses a Xenophase Blade. It would have been better on a specialist that could make way better use of it.

If I bring a model with a splinter cannon and give it Demo, do I get +1's to wound rolls even though it says, "This weapon wounds on a 4+"?
Because if not, I'm giving to my shredder bearer now and forever.
Modifications are done at the end of the roll so you a 3 that gets +1 and now is equal to a 4. That 4 is with in the model wounds on 4+. And thus it would wound at that check just like any other check.
At least my take on it.
That was mine as well, but I had a feeling I was misinterpreting things.
Ok, that's really awesome.
GW did a great job with killteam, in that I'm now sitting on a list of at least 6 killteams I'd like to build.

For once I wish I had the resin version of the model.
Really debating on the other 5 Deathwatch Veterans I have to build.
Right now I have a thunder hammer, frag cannon, infernous heavy bolter, shotgun, and xenophase blade with combi melta model.
I kind of want to build a second frag cannon, two Black Shields, one with two power swords and one with a power maul and power sword, another combi melta, and a shotgun.
I also want another infernous heavy bolter too though.

So does doing it by hand. It certainly would be nice to have something that would make it easier to play around with configurations and auto populate a roster.
Do you get extra attacks for 2 melee weapons? Otherwise it seems pointless.
the 2 swords I got no idea other than rule of cool?

The exchange rates for the US and EU versions of AT are off by over 15% to the actual exchange rate.
It’s because the kit is from 7th edition, where two swords granted one attack.
I guess that's one way to get around Brexit induced currency weakness.
I do really regret not ordering Corax in my last order now. Because now it looks like it may well be my last order.

But currency weakness should be good for exports. It helps people from overseas to buy more of their stuff.
Yeah, the slide of the pound should help drive sales, but for all that GW had improved over the last year or two, they still seem off in la-la land regarding the concept of foreign currency and exchange rates. I just looked at their website and the Cawdor Gang is $70AUD vs. $50CAD, and those currencies are near parity. Shipping, sure, but a 40% price difference?
Coolness was the reasoning. I should just do a shield and power sword or really just don't do two Black Shields at all but I like the model and feel like it is a waste not to use them.

Orks for instance require models from like 4 boxes for a well rounded team
Harlequins, DG, tsons, DK, etc I can just by one $60-$80 box and used all the bits contained to get my team rolling.

Even the ones that come in the starter. It feels like building an AdMech Kill Team will be a lot cheaper than a Genestealer Cult one.

Necrons are also fairly easy. Really all I feel like I need is 2 boxes of Immortals. Warriors and Flayed Ones so far haven't felt all that useful in games that I've played. Though I didn't have to spend any more money on Necrons anyway since I have an entire army of them.

WYSIWYG you get 95pts of Space marines and 75pts of DeathGuard
3 x Intercessors
3 x Reivers
3 x Plague Marines
6 x Pox Walkers
which is pretty even to what you get points wise to the KT starter box.
only downside is it is very limited in choice, no loadout options as these are all "Easy to Build"

There was an eBay sale today and I picked up a few killteam sets. Got the tyranid one mostly for the extra shipping crate terrain, now I wanna get a bunch more and make a train with a train yard out of them. Gonna need to get those crane wheels off the mechanicus crane terrain probably.

Necron Nephrekh Dynasty has this: If a unit with this code Advances, add 6" to its Move characteristic for that Movement phase instead of rolling a dice (if the unit is being affected by the My Will Be Done or Wave of Command ability, add 7" to its Move characteristic instead). In addition, if a unit with this code Advances, its models can move across models and terrain as if they were not there.
That reads to me that the 6" part of the move is essentially "Fly". Is it? i.e., can I zoom up levels those last few inches?

CFN: Bizazedo (I don't think I suck, add me).
I figured as much, those shoulder pads do look really cool though.
I also feel like I'm wasting all these cool weapons on my Deathwatch. So much good stuff and I can only make 5 units.
Edit: The shield also looks like it will make it really hard to paint the model.
Edit2: Can I put a Stalker Pattern Boltgun on a Reiver model and run it as a Deathwatch Veteran? Would that be confusing? Like never have it be a Reiver, only ever a Deathwatch Veteran.
