Dekker just bopping around with his LRMs and PPC
It's actually got a decent amount of armor, too

The 55-ton trio are good mainstays for a while in the campaign
He's okay though!
No more piloting big mechs like the Zeus now, too risky, apparently
I'm not sure if the Flamer is a good mech, but it's very satisfying.
Sensor lock at range, and then once they get in close, broil the biggest one you can find. I just had a mission where a Dragon got completely taken out of the equation by my Flamer.
In related news, I now own a King Crab.
I'm definitely going to start saving before delivering the coup de grace in all missions going forward.
which I actively hate as a tactical strategy fan
I'm going to mod the shit out of this game when I get the chance - better AI, better balancing, the works
because it doesn't matter how evasive your light mech is when the hills come alive with the desire to focus fire on it

gotta use those jump jets, get you some evasion
I want big stompy mechs, walking tanks!
What's the point in having goofy levitating mechs flying slowly through the air?! It's undignified!
I agree, unfortunately they made jump jets far stronger than in tabletop too.
You'll save one ton and some heat generation if you swap in 2x LRM 15 for those 10's.
been awhile, though
the game may be balanced for more even match-ups

Maybe that's where I'm messing up, I currently have two SRM6's and kinda use it as a close range mech for that and it's melee damage.
Assuming nothing or nobody is broken my current squad is a Trebuchet with 3 M Lasers and 2 LRM15's, the Centurion with an AC5, 2 M Lasers and 2 SRM6, a Hunchback with an AC20++, 2 M Laser and a S Laser, and a Vindicator with a PPC, M & S Laser and a LRM5. The Centurion and Hunchback are kind of my front line while the Trebuchet and Vindicator stay further back.
I just got a Griffin, if I can figure out how to change the LRM10 into a LRM15 I think it might be changing the Vindicator out for it. I've been really loathe to sacrifice armor on anything so far.

I dipped my toe into skirmish mode last night and it's a very different experience. I enjoyed it! I'll be looking to do that a lot more now that I'm done with the campaign.
I liked it. My Dekker decided to croak on the second to last mission.
Currently debating whether to keep doing postgame stuff or starting over with some self-imposed rules.
That's all I want in life. Currently refitting my Centurion with 3 lrm10s like Kamiro because it's all I've got. I just want to remind these mechwarriors who the real king of the battlefield is.
Wait for some mods like better AI, I say

Edit: Make that three.
Edit2: Got it, finally.
Take an easy mission with lights and tanks and almost lose a Jagermech and a total of four pilot hits on two of my pilots, CMON!
Darius' Response
the mission difficulty ratings are....not always accurate
The rating was accurate, I just upset RNGsus
Taking four headhsots in a single mission isn't going to be affected by mission difficulty - it's the RNG fuckin with ya. I had a latter story mission do the same thing - 3 head shots on one guy - and not with RNG exploiting weapons like SRMs or LRMs - with damned med lasers! Good this I invested in tons of cockpit mods!

I obviously don't know how the computer game does it, but at least in the classic tabletop rules you would roll hit location for each set of 5 or fraction thereof of missiles that hit - it would be 1. roll to hit, 2. roll to see how many LRMs hit out of the full amount, then 3. roll hit location on for each set of five missiles that hit. I will admit I haven't played BT a lot since the Clans appeared (gods I hate them with the heat of a thousand suns), so my memory may be a tad hazy.

In the computer game LRMs will individually roll to hit/location
I'm torn between starting over and waiting for a patch that might rebalance weapons a bit. I might do it, but impose some limitations on myself. Stuff like trying not to cheese stability quite so much. Don't let myself hide ammo in my mechs' legs. On that note, try to actually keep mechs close to their stock configs.
Or only use Small Lasers.
PC rules are different. Every single missile makes a separate to hit roll and hit location roll.
Not a huge fan of the change myself but it is what it is.
But I've run this mission about a half dozen times so far in my campaign, and every single time the "extremely heavy mech" is actually a vehicle, and not an especially scary one. I'm beginning to question the intelligence of my employers.
