    The GRF-1N is really great

Dekker just bopping around with his LRMs and PPC

It's actually got a decent amount of armor, too

I’ve had pretty decent success with the Jenner, the stock model has a surprising amount of firepower and the speed/jump jets to get into someone’s rear arc to chew through that wafer-thin armor

The 55-ton trio are good mainstays for a while in the campaign

Do not have a cow, mortal.

Just had a scary moment with Dekker, where his Zeus was cored by a kick from a completely disarmed King Crab

    He's okay though!

No more piloting big mechs like the Zeus now, too risky, apparently

but they've disappointed me over and over and over and I'm ready to just call them a niche thing

I'm not sure if the Flamer is a good mech, but it's very satisfying.

Sensor lock at range, and then once they get in close, broil the biggest one you can find. I just had a mission where a Dragon got completely taken out of the equation by my Flamer.

Had a really weird 3-skull mission. First mech shows up, it’s a Jenner. Seems on the light end for this, but ok. Second mech shows up, it’s a King Crab. There are no other mechs.

In related news, I now own a King Crab.

I just had my first post-mission crash. It was particularly painful because my first crack at the mission was a flawless victory with some really nice salvage, and the second try threw in a nasty set of reinforcements that chewed my team up pretty expensively.

I'm definitely going to start saving before delivering the coup de grace in all missions going forward.

the game's primary issue is that it's difficulty is entirely based off of enemies swarming you with superior numbers

which I actively hate as a tactical strategy fan

I'm going to mod the shit out of this game when I get the chance - better AI, better balancing, the works

because it doesn't matter how evasive your light mech is when the hills come alive with the desire to focus fire on it

I know it's a core part of gameplay, but I hate using jumpjets

I want big stompy mechs, walking tanks!

What's the point in having goofy levitating mechs flying slowly through the air?! It's undignified!

A trap is for fish: when you've got the fish, you can forget the trap. A snare is for rabbits: when you've got the rabbit, you can forget the snare. Words are for meaning: when you've got the meaning, you can forget the words.

I've got a Trebuchet with an LRM 20 and an LRM 15++ that does +2 damage per missile. Stay strong, because it's definitely worth it to launch just a cartoonish volume of missiles into your enemy's dumb face from halfway across the map every turn.

I agree, unfortunately they made jump jets far stronger than in tabletop too.

I use my Centurion as a missile boat. Currently have 3 LRM 10s and a butt load of extra ammo.

You'll save one ton and some heat generation if you swap in 2x LRM 15 for those 10's.

Maybe that's where I'm messing up, I currently have two SRM6's and kinda use it as a close range mech for that and it's melee damage.

Assuming nothing or nobody is broken my current squad is a Trebuchet with 3 M Lasers and 2 LRM15's, the Centurion with an AC5, 2 M Lasers and 2 SRM6, a Hunchback with an AC20++, 2 M Laser and a S Laser, and a Vindicator with a PPC, M & S Laser and a LRM5. The Centurion and Hunchback are kind of my front line while the Trebuchet and Vindicator stay further back.

I just got a Griffin, if I can figure out how to change the LRM10 into a LRM15 I think it might be changing the Vindicator out for it. I've been really loathe to sacrifice armor on anything so far.

Finish Liberation Panzyr with minimal damage, all right

Take an easy mission with lights and tanks and almost lose a Jagermech and a total of four pilot hits on two of my pilots, CMON!

    Random Contract called Corporate Secrets:
A scientist for a Restoration conglomerate has turned industrial spy for a rival corporation from the pirates. She was privy to numerous industrial secrets that we would prefer not to fall into our competitor's hands. The pirate leadership has offered to sell her back, but we intend to use the false hope of negotiations to buy you time to extract the scientist through more proactive means.

    Darius' Response
I think I've lost track of how many layers of betrayal this represents. Is this a quadruple-cross? This must be some scientist.

Taking four headhsots in a single mission isn't going to be affected by mission difficulty - it's the RNG fuckin with ya. I had a latter story mission do the same thing - 3 head shots on one guy - and not with RNG exploiting weapons like SRMs or LRMs - with damned med lasers! Good this I invested in tons of cockpit mods!

@ironsizide Multiple SRMs from the same salvo can hit the head, but headshots for LRMs are only rolled for the first missile

I obviously don't know how the computer game does it, but at least in the classic tabletop rules you would roll hit location for each set of 5 or fraction thereof of missiles that hit - it would be 1. roll to hit, 2. roll to see how many LRMs hit out of the full amount, then 3. roll hit location on for each set of five missiles that hit. I will admit I haven't played BT a lot since the Clans appeared (gods I hate them with the heat of a thousand suns), so my memory may be a tad hazy.

In the computer game LRMs will individually roll to hit/location

I finished the campaign! It was really good, although me drastically over-preparing for the last few missions may have made it a bit easy. Turns out you don't actually need a half-dozen assault mechs. Oh, and Dekker lived to the end (I never actually got any pilots killed).

I'm torn between starting over and waiting for a patch that might rebalance weapons a bit. I might do it, but impose some limitations on myself. Stuff like trying not to cheese stability quite so much. Don't let myself hide ammo in my mechs' legs. On that note, try to actually keep mechs close to their stock configs.

    Only use Medium Lasers.

    Or only use Small Lasers.

  • InquisitorInquisitor Registered User regular
I play BT TT currently and you have the TT rules right.

PC rules are different. Every single missile makes a separate to hit roll and hit location roll.

Not a huge fan of the change myself but it is what it is.

  • Albino BunnyAlbino Bunny Jackie Registered User regular
It's probably fair that missiles splash damage super badly considering they also have enough stagger damage to trivialize any mediums or lights you fight.

  • JedocJedoc In the scuppers with the staggers and jagsRegistered User regular
Okay, is there something wrong with the "Take the Bait" random side mission? The description suggests that an "extremely heavy mech" is wandering around by itself, and it's obviously a trap, so you're supposed to go attack the bait mech and then fight off the ambushers. Which would seem to suggest that the bait mech has a good chance of being something a little out of your weight class, and a good salvage opportunity.

But I've run this mission about a half dozen times so far in my campaign, and every single time the "extremely heavy mech" is actually a vehicle, and not an especially scary one. I'm beginning to question the intelligence of my employers.
