Are the Megaman X games any good? I know that people loved them at launch, but is their popularity now a combination of not knowing any better at the time and nostalgia, or do they actually hold up on their own?
Didn't the original Wii have an attach rate of like 9ish, about the same as 360 and PS3?
Because at the time everyone was like PEOPLE JUST PLAY BOWLING AND THEN PUT IT IN THE CLOSET but it was the same as or better than its contemporaries, which moves the conversations to OK BOWLING AND 8 COPIES OF CARNIVAL GAMES!
It did. Gamer culter despises "casual" games and the Wii got the reputation of being the "casual" system so it got shit on endlessly.
And then that endless shit target got moved onto smartphones. Yay console wars!

I don't consider myself hardcore or anything, but it was pretty obvious that Nintendo neglected a lot of their fans when it came to the Wii to cater to a different audience.
I believe I remember reading about them even admitting to that in recent years.

I don't know if they've talked about the Wii, but they've absolutely talked about the Wii U. I remember Nintendo's President at one point saying his own kid had no interest in the Wii U and that that was a pretty good sign they screwed up somewhere.

I think the first four games are still quite good. The second half of the series (conveniently in the second part of the X collection) not so much.

I tried to do a play through of the whole series, classic and X, a few years back.
It wasn’t a great idea, but X5 is where I finally hit the wall and gave up, I think. I don’t think it really affected how to play the games, but the inclusion of a pseudo-timer and missable things just killed my interest. I liked replaying and exploring levels, and it seemed like the series was incentivizing a more calculated approach than I ever brought to the games.
That said, I still want to beat those last four some day, even if it’s a series with rapidly diminishing returns post-X, maybe X2.

The Rookie Hunter modes really cut a lot of the bullshit out of X4-6. Bottomless pits and spikes don't kill you anymore, much less damage is taken, they even altered a few of X6's really disgusting level designs. Playing X6 with an armor code and rookie hunter on is like cruising through it on easy mode. And if you don't like the complete lack of challenge, you can turn it on and off in game any time you want. On for the stupid level designs, off for the bosses.

Something like 100 Million Wiis were sold and around 1 billion pieces of software.
Not to burst anyone's bubble, but I personally purchased 999,999,972 Wii games. That only leaves ~28 pieces of software across the other 99,999,999 Wiis purchased, for an estimated attach rate (excluding my data as an outlier) of %0.00002800000028.

There actually are plenty of great games on cell phones that aren't pointless money extractors, so you answered your own question. :P
You feel that there being "plenty of great games" means people's dislike of the mobile market for being filled with clones and cash grabs is them being elitist?

I think I'm just going to buy Titan's Quest. Most of the complaints seem to be about UI. Very few complaints about bugs.
Nintendo Life, which seems pretty spot on on Switch reviews, gave it a "Good" rating of 7 out of 10. A lot of other reviews seem to be knocking it, but primarily on its core/fundamental nature - i.e. that the 2006 mechanics have not significantly evolved/been modernized. I don't know that I care about that.
At least one review (which still gave it a 4 out of 10) said that they couldn't find any of the bugs present on the console versions.
I can't justify the price after having played the game so much and the 'sequel' (it's not a sequel but it's a similar game from the same company that looks better) has even been out on PC for a couple of years
I did love Titan's Quest just... even with portability I don't think I could do more than $20

Yes, especially since all the other games marketplaces are filled with clones and cash grabs as well. Switch too.
Sorry, I'm just not a fan of silly platform wars, especially since Nintendo fans endured "they're not real games/it's not a platform for real gamers!" for two long generations. I'll shut up now.
To clarify, I think "Phone games aren't real games" is a dumb statement. Of course, they're real and legitimate games. IMO, however, that market is dead. Not dead in the sense that no one is making games or that phone apps don't make money. Rather, I don't think anyone should waste their time browsing for games in a phone app store because for every good game in there, there are a hundred times more cynical bullshit games designed to be nothing but timers and take money from your wallet at every turn.

Clearly, you don't have an iPhone. There's a beautifully curated "new games we love" section in the App Store that pulls out the good stuff from the crap. Also, Touch Arcade is a wonderful resource. I know discoverability is a problem, but discoverability is a problem for EVERY platform. We don't let all the crap on the other platforms cause people to write off the platforms completely, but it's a thing gaming elites tend to do with cell phones.
I'd recommend people looking into PC gaming avoid Steam as well if they didn't have a stranglehold on that market. If not having faith in the mobile market because it was taken over by cynical turds makes me "elitist", then so be it I guess.

You could easily make the argument that Wii was taken over by cynical turds, because holy crap, the shovelware. But that didn't stop us from enjoying it somehow.
Anyway, sorry. I'll stop now. I'm just not a fan of console wars in any form, mostly because of the Wii days.

The main thing is that with Steam and also the Switch, there doesn't seem to be a surplus of "free" "games" which rely on doing something for 10 minutes and then waiting for a meter to recharge to do it again, or paying for currency to spend to recharge your actions faster. At least the turds are $5 and tend to be immediately obvious as turds from the screenshots.
Nintendo first entered the mobile market by actually making a proper game with a one time purchase price.
Even they realized "Go gatcha or go home". So that tells you right away where the mobile market stands.
Yeah FE:H pulled in a lot more money for them than Super Mario Run ever did, right?

there's no shortage of people online willing to make lists of worthwhile android or switch or whatever games that are actually worth your interest, in my experience.
It's a fine game. I played it myself for a while. But I was already in another gatcha game at the time (FFRK) and had no desire to lose myself in another. And honestly, all the issues surrounding microtransactions in the past year made me take a look at myself and the business model, and I got out. I'm just not comfortable taking part in a scummy business tactic like that again.

Convinced a buddy - not a hardcore gamer the whole time I've known him - to get a Switch a few months back. At 1:00 am last night, he texted me from this lakehouse in the middle of nowhere where he's currently visiting family. He's barely had any cell service and none of his texts have been getting through to me, but he wanted to let me know that he's grateful to have been able to bring his Switch and BotW for these quiet nights by the lake. So good.
