    Re: sexual orientation, the "not a choice" idea always bothered me. It's irrelevant whether it's a choice; people are allowed to do what they want, and they're not hurting anyone. There is a rhetorical dodge there, which was canny political maneuvering but gave ground in the argument itself.

    I was writing a long comment about asexuality on my phone but the thread snapped closed and popped up that needless message over the input field. Normally I’d just enable the inspector, remove it from the page, and copy my post, but that’s not a option on mobile.

    Luckily, I was able to rotate my phone to portrait mode and the page layout fucked up a little, so I could grab a corner of the text input box, select all, and copy.

    I used that trick again when the second chat thread was locked and also ate THIS post.

    I like that the one time the draft system might be useful, when a post is eaten by a thread locking, you can’t even get the full text of the draft. All you can do is see the first sentence or so and delete it from the drafts interface. The only place it would normally appear in full text is the locked thread, which had the posing interface hidden so there’s nowhere for it to go.

    Also, the pop up that covers the text field isn’t even necessary! It could be smaller or you could just let the regular permission denied popup work on post. Why on earth would you pop up a thing nearly full screen over what the user was doing, that prevents them from saving their work? The entire thing is just baffling. It’s more work to develop something less functional.

    I mean there seems to be lots of evidence that there is something innate about orientation. The total failure of "conversion therapy" is a solid example, I think.

    But the direct counter to the argument "being gay is gross and wrong" is not "well they didn't choose to be that way," it's "no, it isn't, there's nothing wrong with it, grow up", I think
