I mean there seems to be lots of evidence that there is something innate about orientation. The total failure of "conversion therapy" is a solid example, I think.
But the direct counter to the argument "being gay is gross and wrong" is not "well they didn't choose to be that way," it's "no, it isn't, there's nothing wrong with it, grow up", I think
Also like most things it not being biologically determined isn't exactly the same as choosing.
I never chose to not like chicken but I doubt it's genetic. Too many overcooked chicken breasts in my childhood. Thanks mom.
and I wonder about my neighbors even though I don't have them
but they're listening to every word I say
Re: sexual orientation, the "not a choice" idea always bothered me. It's irrelevant whether it's a choice; people are allowed to do what they want, and they're not hurting anyone. There is a rhetorical dodge there, which was canny political maneuvering but gave ground in the argument itself.
IDK, I'd be down with being not-ace.
If you have a libido, have you talked with anyone about this directly that specializes in it or do you just talk about it on PA/tumblr/reddit with ace support groups?
not a doctor, not a lawyer, examples I use may not be fully researched so don't take out of context plz, don't @ me

I like that the one time the draft system might be useful, when a post is eaten by a thread locking, you can’t even get the full text of the draft. All you can do is see the first sentence or so and delete it from the drafts interface. The only place it would normally appear in full text is the locked thread, which had the posing interface hidden so there’s nowhere for it to go.
Also, the pop up that covers the text field isn’t even necessary! It could be smaller or you could just let the regular permission denied popup work on post. Why on earth would you pop up a thing nearly full screen over what the user was doing, that prevents them from saving their work? The entire thing is just baffling. It’s more work to develop something less functional.
If I was engineering a solution for this, I would:
Separate drafts from specific threads. Drafts should just be drafts, their own top-level entity.
Always start with a blank textarea on every page.
Allow for which draft you want to use from your drafts library to be selected from a dialog from any message screen.
If you hit post in a thread that closed, the contents of that post should save to drafts. If you go to next page and you typed stuff in the post box, save as a draft.
Put auto saving of drafts against the wall and fire without remorse or pity.

Would you say that because it's inherently harmful to you, or because of how you're treated by others, or the conflict between your idea of how people should be and what an asexual life is?
It's not uncommon for people to wish their identity were different, even if they're proud of it or trying to work to support their community or etc.
I don't know enough to speak from a place of authority but I assume people using the term asexuality include people with some level of sex drive but no desire to have sex with other people. It seems kinda pointless to define other people's terms for them.

real answer: asexual is a clunky term that is an easier shorthand for a lot of different orientations that aren't standard sexuality
it's easier to say i'm asexual than to say, well i enjoy sex and am sexually attracted to people, but i don't have the typical kind of urge to have sex that most people do and it isn't a very important aspect of my life such that living without it doesn't bother me
Allegedly a voice of reason.

not why are you jerking it, but what is arousing you
like I said I am probably just off on what the word means, I thought like hetero = opposite sex, homo = same sex, a = no sex ie what are you fantasizing about when you jerk it but I guess it could just be the feeling or what have you. idk
I shouldn't have made comment 1 about this I don't know what I'm talking about please no one get mad at me

i guess demisexual is probably more accurate for what i am, but it also feels like calling yourself an introvert on the internet with how it's often defined

i hate all the [x]cel terms because they are full of poison, but also it's not really like voluntary, it's more just an absence of need
I don't know enough to speak from a place of authority but I assume people using the term asexuality include people with some level of sex drive but no desire to have sex with other people. It seems kinda pointless to define other people's terms for them.
Don't give up on terms so quickly. A chronic masturbator who jerks it to internet porn exclusively would not be considered asexual.

You don’t have to jerk it “to” anything. If you’re in a culture that is sufficiently unrepresentative of your sexuality, it’s very likely that you discover the physical response long before finding what it’s for or what can induce it in you with just a though or a visual.
Likewise I guess if you’re asexual and nothing really does it for you, then you never find that thing, but you still have the physical response to touch.

man i love to be super stressed out the night before because i have to wake up for an early phone call, rush to work, be all just fucking tired and not feeling great then open my email and see these east coast dealers who made me up wake up so early just casually ask if we can reschedule

I was told I hated the gays here years ago when I said that.
It doesn't matter if it is a choice or not. Like most things the science seems to indicate it is influenced by genetics but not determined by it.
But there isn't a moral component really. If you were born that way or one day decided hey I just love dicks is irrelevant.
It's absolutely relevant to the legal discussion. Sushi lovers are not and should not be a protected class. Mere dick lovers likewise.
It's only relevant because no one is going to assult you for your sushi choices.
Unless it is grocery store California rolls. Then I might have to smack you one.
Lol!
But no, we don't do antidiscrimination only because a group gets assaulted a lot. If it's a choice, it doesn't deserve special protected class status.
Like, I can fire you for being a Nazi or liking anime but I can't for being gay. We got there because it's not a choice.

Yes, I too like to not have one night stands and actually have a relationship with them before I want to have sex with them.
I mean sure I could absolutely get a boner like I was watching porn and fuck someone, but, quite a few people don't like that or hookup culture in general. I would even hazard a guess that "quite a few" means "probably the majority of people".

i just never have that "omg i gotta get laid" feeling at all
yeah I mean, I've never felt that either but I never considered myself a particular thing besides hetero since that's what I'm attracted to. how much I actively pursue sex didn't seem like something that changed that to me but maybe I just never considered it.
well whatever no reason to think about myself now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
