Mabel's actually pretty fast, compared to say your standard golden retriever. Compared to a greyhound she's a broken down bus.
Uschi moves like a feral haggis.
My sister's Golden Retriever Archer can put on quite the turn of speed when he feels like it (for instance when one of the neighbours drives up their driveway and he simply has to run to the fence and bark at them), but no dog my family has ever had (including the Ridgeback x Alsation called Rani) could compare to Mum's old chocolate brown miniature Poodle Jasper. That little bugger used to chase our cars up and down the driveway, and me around the paddocks when I was thrashing our old Datsun 200B sedan around learning to drive. I saw that dog running alongside grinning at me as the speedo swept past 60 kilometres an hour...
Man, vet visits are not fun. One of the bunnies hasn't been eating or drinking or moving around much so here we are at the animal hospital thing hoping they can find out what is wrong.

Update on this. Bunny is eating, but still not moving around much (more than she was). We got some pain killers and a dry mix to mix with water to force feed her. Seems like the problem may be that she needs tooth grinding? Going to schedule that tomorrow. Poor bunny

What a cute bun. I hope she's okay, dude.
Everything looks beautiful when you're young and pretty
Rabbits are always tough to diagnose since they tend to hide any issues they have until it's a bit more serious. Hope everything goes well!
Some rabbits hate the dry mix stuff/force feeding (Critical Care?), but they sometimes sell it in different flavors so that might help.
She's actually doing okay with the critical care stuff, it is made from apples/bananas which she gets for treats occasionally so I think that helps. She isn't thrilled about the whole being held, but she at least takes it when she has it in her mouth. I'm not convinced its entirely a tooth issue. And yeah, they really do hide them not feeling great. Luckily the pain meds seemed to get her to be willing to eat/move around. We'll see how she's doing tomorrow.

Cats do this too! Most of the non-dog pet species do, come to think of it.
I had 3 little parakeets when I was 10 or 11 or so. They were fragile, scared little things that never came out of their cage, but they were at least easy to care for.
Then I visit my cousins in Mexico and they had 9 parrots. Big, colourful, loud, chatty motherfuckers. They were all pretty friendly, too. You could let them out of their cage outdoor and they wouldn't go very far, they'd always come back to the cages. Loved those birbs.

Showing weakness is usually a terrible idea in the wild so it makes sense some domesticated animals would have that behavior still.
there's a stray been hanging around my house several days this week. I'm pretty sure I've seen her around the neighborhood for a couple years, and she scarfed down food pretty enthusiastically, so i'm fairly sure she's not lost or someone's indoor/outdoor cat. after some initial wariness, she let me pet her, but even before that, purred, and tried to smooth against my legs and vocalize, so i think she's friendly enough she could become a pet. she's got some gunk in her eye, and I've heard her sneeze or cough out there on my porch last night, so i'm pretty sure she's got a URI.
on advice from one of the local animal advocate groups, I'm gonna try and take her to the city shelter today, but if it is a simple infection, they will probably just treat her and release her back in the area after a couple days. winter is coming; i have 3 cats and can't give her a home. there are a lot of cats in our neighborhood, and i know of a couple houses that feed them daily -- it just stresses me out whenever i see a cat out where they can get hurt.
i know getting her treated will still be a QOL improvement, but my anxiety is acting up and i can't picture finding a home for this cat on my own, if she'd even be happy indoors. the sanctuaries and programs that might -- pull from shelters. i do know of someone who fosters older kitties, so I'll try him. she's a black cat, so it's a particularly dangerous time. ..
i had trouble sleeping last night because of this, and i have a job interview tomorrow, and i just started a class, and i have some travel i need to plan in two weeks, and i've gone from doing very little in a week to feeling a bit overwhelmed right now. so that and being primed for sensitivity on this makes it a bigger deal than it probably is, but i just needed to vent.

Here's Coby enjoying his one-year adoption anniversary toys after a bath at home.
He's come so far in a year. Gone from shaking in fear while being outside to wanting to just sit on the back porch and torment the squirrels.
It's stupid but with everything else going on I'm just at work crying about no more dogs from florida having to go through what my boy has gone through. Like the national gains are much more important, but for just a bit i have to take the time to appreciate that. Fewer broken legs, lost toes, scars, anxiety, death.

My wife and I decided last week "hey now that we have a house and a backyard we should think about getting another dog" and we're apparently already signed up for a foster visit in a couple weeks, with several more waiting in the wings.
I'mma go ahead and say she's been preparing for this day.
well, i tried to get aforementioned stray into a cat carrier today since i'm about to go on a trip and wanted her to get a bit of medical attention before i'm gone for a week. it was (no surprise) no go. but even in the freakout noNoNO sprawl what cats do to negate the carrier entrance, i did not get scratched, which my own cats can't say. the fucking lawnmower blaring across the street did not help my efforts hopy shit.
so i spent some time petting her, and then put out some food and water and fucked off to go expend some nervous energy. i didn't do the good thing what i wanted to do and get her treated and off the streets a couple days, but at least she got some love and food.
i wish i, personally, could do more for this cat, but in some ways i'm still just barely keeping my own shit together; why does my brain make me feel guilty about that? (my brain is a bit of an asshole.)

we took them in a couple weeks ago and in that time they've gone from mostly-feral skittish little things to scampering little gluttons for attention. we're not entirely sure how old they are, but stephen is a little older than jack and they are bonded as fuck

Great Danes are so freaking awesome. I don't know that I could emotionally handle having a dog that generally lives for about 8 years, though.
The only Great Dane I've had that hasn't lived to be at least 10 died of bloat.
Granted, they do tend to get hip and back problems very frequently, but they can definitely live longer than 8 years.
Now to just wait for one to turn up at a shelter.
They're good dogs. Here's another of my Luna, just for fun.

Satans..... hints.....
Poor silly dog.
She is very shy and needs a name. Leading candidates thus far are Luna, Dory, and Shadow because she hides behind me when I take her outside to potty.
