I really really really hope theres a special animation for king crabs where, if it kills something in melee, instead of the enemy just falling over.. The king crab grabs it with both claws, and rips it in half.
Yeah, some Dawn of War sync kill style finishers would be awesome.
I was watching a video the other day and apparently HBS has ONE animator. Hats off to that brave soul. They should probably get some more help in that area.
Are you serious? Wow, having played 99 hours now, I can say that that is one heroic individual. Hat's off!
Yeah, we're lucky we didn't end up with Mass Effect: Andromeda levels of animation jank. As humorous as that would have been.

just got a king crab and i've decided it is going to stay far away and have infinite armor and shoot forever and if they close with it then hit them with the flaming fists
3 LLas and a PPC generates 130 heat for 195 damage. 1 Exchanger and 14 heat sinks means I sink 85 of that heat, so I should be able to alpha twice at 45 a go before I need to rest
Long live the king! It's really nice to have a long ranger with armor. Three of the new pilots I'm training are bulwark and master tactician, so he can just never move after the fight stays. He's a coring threat, a headshot threat, and he can use his PPC to assist an LRM knockdown. When he can't alpha anymore he can still fire three guns for another three rounds before overheating. Of course, turning off the lasers for a knockdown tap resets his heat.

That's one fantastic animator.
Yeah, she had a shoutout in the AMA with Tyler Carpenter a couple weeks ago.
Totally worth it though. I just recently finally got a King Crab. I wonder if I would have made the same trade off after Grave Robbing. That's a ton of +'s to have lost. I find myself constantly needing more of those than anything else. Stock gear is for losers.
Honestly the real damage is that pilot. He was a 4 10.
But it led me to hire someone named Peanut Butter, so.

So why don't fasa or whoever items battletech now how some good artists and redo some of these mechs?
They have been redoing a lot of the mechs. Which is why we have the current versions of the mechs in BT (both game and tabletop). They haven't done all of them yet.

I'm suddenly so much more OK with the crew's short animation loops.
Can't wait for some of these fixes. Cleans up a smattering of hitches I get all the time, a bunch of edge case bugs I've experienced thankfully, and then the perma High/Low Spirits bug. Which is too bad for me because Glitch and Dekker have had perma high spirits almost the whole game. But probably for the best.

The only fix I need is for them to correct the horrendous delays in the mechbay as the number of different items in your inventory grows.
Just remember that half the people you meet are below average intelligence.
Which mission is it that, afterward, you get access to basically all the Griffin -1Ns you want?
The mission where you have to stop Protectorate forces from landing on the planet by destroying a communications relay in 12 rounds. I think its the fourth? I forget the mission name.
Is there actually anything special about these ronin pilots other than the portrait? Or do they just start with higher than average stats?
You get a cheevo for hiring one. They are also the pilots from the Backer Beta and the Skirmish mode, I think?

My super puncher robot with +80 melee damage took a cockpit shot. I considered ejecting him, but what are the odds of the cockpit being hit again. Well, when the second cockpit shot came in, he was standing in an artillery area. So I didn't just lose the cockpit mod when a pristine mech lost its pilot. I lost the whole mech!
This game is so fun, but so stressful... Maybe I need to get rid of my ocd to keep everyone alive, it makes everything take forever.
I systematically have at least one character I have no intention to keep alive on the squad every time now. Sometimes I put him in a Spider just because.
"Go scout out the enemy and don't come back till you find them all.... or ever."
Really wish they'd at least change the wording to 'Heavy Target' and not Heavy Mech when it's a vehicle. Wasted a ton of rep or money thinking a 4 Skull mission with a heavy mech, might mean Assault class.

It's kind of nuts when you think about it. HBS isn't quite two guys in a garage, but it's only, like, one notch up from that, and before now had only made little bite-sized indie rpgs. I have a hard time thinking of other studios in recent years that have made such an ambitious jump up in scale.

Yup. The "ronin," in the jsons, are the unique HBS-created pilots from the skirmish beta (Apex, Buckshot, etc). They're unique and will have the same skills/background/portrait etc every game, but were created using the in-game portrait system.
The Kickstarter pilots like Succubus, God and Ice Trey are designated "backer" in the json files and also have unique everything but get their own hand-illustrated portraits to go along with.

I know "bad intel" is a thing, but when 9 out of 10 times that explicit "heavy mech" description turns out to be light resistance, it has made me wonder if they didn't accidentally flip a +/- sign in their mission generator.
Just remember that half the people you meet are below average intelligence.

Campaign beaten!
I now have three Atlases and a King Crab. The Steiner Scout Lance is real!
It was not without cost, though. Ice Trey gave his life in the first half of the battle after the enemy passed up much better shots to make not one, not two, but three called shots to the head.
Why did the AI hate him so much?
Such mysteries course in luminous rivers throughout the universe.
I mean, don't get me wrong. I was pretty sad
...until the final after-action report when I learned that his Catapult K2 had survived!
I always wondered what the main character of Dawn of War 2's name was. I haven't seen that guy yet, but I feel like it's my duty to find his portrait and replace it with this.

First of those pilots I found was Eck.
"Oh, hey, that's the same guy that wrote that nice, detailed tutorial and tactics guide for the game. Cool."
And he gets splattered by a single AC20 round to the head in an otherwise pristine mech.

MWO - I am now considered a Tier 3 pilot, built on the back of a match where I was just shy of 1000 damage and got 7 assists, 3 kills, with the credit of the VIP escort kill going my way.

Are those really any better than the Vindicator?
I didn't buy any, so take that for what you will. 3mil+ for 55tons is a bit much when you are swimming in mediums.

They can rock 3xML/SRM-4 with 2 tons of ammo, 4JJets and 15 tons of armor/HS. So, a little? They can pack more missiles, and they punch harder in melee. Mostly though, it's my favorite mech, and best of all it's the opposite end of the medium weight range
It's Thursday! Any Oosik/Iron Oosik shenanigans in store for this evening?
I would be down. I'm done with vent though, so that may impact it.

Having finished I am real satisfied. Biggest problems are lategame loading screens and busted UX- I need a way to sell a hundred MLas at once, a way to run underweight mechs without warning, a way to toggle travel scenes, and Darius needs to shut the hell up about my elite mechwarriors having unspent existence.
So I am forwarned that I need two heavy lances with no refit between missions. I decide to take my second best lance into this mission. Which is my trusty Grasshopper, non-SLDF Highlander, Orion Missile Boat, and just 'cause my new King Crab sporting upgraded AC/20's and 4 medium lasers.
I'm supposed to capture and hold a comm station, with bonus objectives to escort some APCs which can capture turrets? Except before I even get to act, one of the APCs runs right into the thick of the enemy and gets all the armor torn off one side. Fun! But hey, in consolation I also got some allied PPC Carriers! And they are actually dealing damage to crap!
So yeah, that APC dies in short order.
I take out the 4 starting defenders, the other APC makes it to it's target so I end up taking control of about half the turrets, and I'm running my Grasshopper with hacker lady around the edge of the base to the comm tower. But I'm already assuming enemy reinforcements will show up. So I smartly position my King Crab in the forest near the entrance of the base.
I take the Grasshopper to the comm tower, triggering the reinforcements... which proceed to land directly on top of my King Crab. And they will all get to act before I can move it. Mother fucker!
But the reinforcements seem more enamored with targeting my allied PPC Carriers, not that I can blame them. So the King Crab doesn't take as much damage as I was afraid he would. In fact, my King Crab almost single handedly cuts two of them in half with those dual AC/20's.
Then more reinforcements show up! A little heavier this time too. And my Orion just ran out of missiles. Then I think the mission glitched out? My Leopard dropship lands, and I thought Kamea said something about joining me, except nobody else shows up. Alright, fine, I figure whenever hacker lady is done with the comms station I'll have to evac? Possibly with her in tow? I just walk my depleted Orion to chill next to the dropship while my Highlander, King Crab and Grasshopper distract the enemy from blowing up the comms station. The enemy actually ends up mostly focusing on destroying the turrets I took over and the PPC Carriers. Never attacked the comms station once. And I never took any internal damage on any of my mechs!
Then hacker lady finishes her hacking, the Leopard suddenly lands again, and the mission just ends. Huh. Wasn't expecting that.
Spoilers on the second half
So hey, my King Crab is ready to go again! It's pilot isn't, having taken a wound in a fall, but who cares. That was my B-Team pilot anyways! Since this is the final final mission it's time to go all in! Kamea's Atlas II, my own Atlas, King Crab and SLDF Highlander! Let's do this! Final showdown!
Oh. I may have over prepared. The enemy just has a Cataphract, Awesome, King Crab and I can't even remember the last one. My Atlas takes the Cataphract's head clean off with a targeted shot. Those dual AC/5's just keep working their head shotty magic. Their King Crab throws some AC/20 shells at my King Crab, except only one of them hits, and I had Vigilanced. Then my King Crab... also scores a head crit with it's AC/20's on Victoria's King Crab.
Oh my. That was over fast. I make almost as short work of the Awesome and whoever the hell was left over.
So that was a lot of fun. I'm excited to start touring the Federated Suns. And hey, I salvaged an Awesome!
Also, the credit roll with all the photos of the team throughout the process were touching. Good for those guys and gals. They made an amazing game.

I immediately refitted it to have 3xSRM/4, 2xMLAS, and an AC/5.
Took it into a mission and sent those SRMs into a Hunchie's hunch, for great explosions.
