[BATTLETECH/MechWarrior] This thread has suffered a catastrophic translight jump failure.
Posts
1. It's faster.
2. It does not have an Energy and a Support mount tied up on the bloody head. Headmounts suck because there are much better things to mount in the head (Head mounts are bad, CT mounts are almost as bad).
3. It has more missile slots. Missile slots are generally more potent and heat efficient than energy slots. The 1N in particular is a great SRM boat, and pretty darn great for mid-range since the entire left side of the mech can be used as a shield. Not really enough free weight to be used as a medium LRM boat though, but that's what the Centurion is for.
The only advantage of the vindicator? Half a ton extra tonnage for weapons/armor/heatsinks.

@Erlkönig I'm logged in. Looking for you now...

@Nips your swarm has arrived, sir!
Yeah I'm about to bad faith withdraw, I've already got two injured pilots!
e: for context, my lance is in the lower right. They are a Blackjack, a Vindicator, a Shadowhawk, and a Trebuchet. They are facing off against three each of a Locusts and Jenners, at least 1 Spider, and three other 'mechs I can't even see!
...but one of them is a Quickdraw. Which I want. So. Probably gonna keep pushing.
e: Yep, 3 Locusts, 3 Jenners, a Spider, a Panther, a Wolverine and a Quickdraw
I'm stuck on
But is this the right move?
Is the Highlander a fast Assault Mech that I should be making my teams Brawler in place of the Grasshopper?
Mission spoilers
Once they land, sensor lock + lrms while hiding behind the big rock, and focus fire the mechs as they round that corner. The distance they have to travel, and the speed difference between their mehcs means that b the time they hit your firing line they'll be in single file.
It’s not a very important country most of the time

It's called a Highlander Burial for a reason. Just saying.
Granted, that reason is mostly "This was the first Assault class mech to have jump jets, and mech jocks are gonna mech jock" but still...
Yes. Mounting 60 lurms is good.
Hell yeah! I ran into something like that, except it was a literal company of light 'Mechs.
It was a great fucking fight against my Cent/Cent/Shadowhawk/THUD lance. I came out on top, in decent shape, and the carcasses of dead lights were *everywhere*.
Yeah I alt+F4'd outta there when I got too close for comfort on my second pilot going down to headshots.
Just nope'd right on out.
...Because Harmony Gold is a lawsuit-happy group of geese that have sued FASA, HBS, PGI and pretty much everyone else that has worked on Battletech for making 'mechs that look remotely like theirs?
EDIT: I mean, IIRC, the whole flippin' point of the redesigns of the re-introduced 'mechs was to establish their own art style so they could sneak out all the Unseen mechs using designs that came closer to the newer style than anything that could be (well, honestly, was) a ripoff of Harmony Gold properties.
I finally figured out how to claim the May Days rewards stuff. Turns out I did a fair amount without even really aiming to or knowing they were things to do. That fast-tracked me toward the cost of the Assault Mech I wanna buy. I'm a bit short but I can make up the amount with less than a day of playing.
Tonight was... fucking brutal. A lot of lost matches, and usually involving my teams getting curb stomped. That was total fucking ass and it made me pretty frustrated with the game. I eventually hopped into my Jagermech, the official "FUCK IT" mech I use now when I'm in a bad mood (still on the 6 HMG and 2 ER PPC build). It's nice to win in it, but I ultimately go after fucking people up. Which I got my shots in for sure. Some cocky Firestarter pilot wanted to do the "flank and burn people" thing. I'm sure he was surprised as shit when it was me running up to solo him and HMG his face in seconds. Oh no. Fire. You piece of shit, eat my good old fashioned bullets.
Yeah, this is basically me in my Stormcrow. Light mechs looking to flank and harass my team who don't realize that I'm chasing after them in my 101kph Streak18 medium mech. Cheetahs can start pulling away from me, but not fast enough to fully break my locks before I either 1) blow off a side torso, 2) remove the majority of their weapons), and/or 3) blow off a leg. About the only threat are coordinated packs of 3 or more Piranhas all boating machine guns.
I am rocking all heavies and went assault hunting so I picked up a 4 1/2 skull mission that mentioned a heavy tonnage lance.
I dropped and was up against about 375 tonnes of mech. I thought damn this will be tough but maybe I can leg em and squeak out a win.
4 rounds into combat I was doing good, two dead legs and morale is ticking up to get another couple and drop two of the mechs.
Reinforcements incoming
shit.
So a schreck, srm carrier and demolisher come around and fuck my shit up.
rage quit.
ATMs are probably the easiest way to get those done. They just do so much damage within the sweet spot.
Mmmmm, Missile Cat.
Is the MWO model as silly/awesome looking as this?
I shall call him Popeye-Mech
Hey, the K2 is no slouch. And it's got a pretty wide range of potential builds.
Oh it's not bad. I was just overloaded with good energy based mechs already I want to upgrade from my LRM boat Cent.

I've been enjoying HBS's Battletech a great deal and thought many of you would appreciate some proper emblems for your lovely Merc Corp.
Instructions for how to use them can be found in this video:How to add in custom emblem
The DDS files (and PNG, all inverted already) can be found here: Emblems
Here's a preview of what's in the mediafire folder:
If anyone has any other Oosik emblems they'd like converted, let me know.
I had this exact issue in my game. I think I was like 45-50 hours into the game before I faced a missile Catapault. And by then I had a Stalker.
Somewhat related, minor spoiler cheevo question:
Steam profile.
Getting started with BATTLETECH: Part 1 / Part 2
It is as bad as you think it is. 20 tons of machine guns is nothing to sneeze about. Till you run out of ammo and are left with wimpy lasers.
Or my abomination of 13 lasers!!!!
Steam: betsuni7
I guess first and foremost, instead of starting with 3 medium mechs and 2 lights or whatever it was, I'd probably want to start with maybe 1 or 2 medium mechs and mostly lights? Lets go full Decision at Thunder Rift and start off with a Shadowhawk as your main guy supported by mostly lights!
Second, I've seen a ton of wishlists concerning salvage. Have salvaged mechs start naked. Have salvaged mechs require a few days work and a spare bay. Have them require more parts of salvage. I think I'd be down with any 2/3 of those. Probably starting naked and requiring a work order to put together. You really do get to double dip on salvaging the weapons, and then also getting a fully equipped mech when you complete the salvage for one.
I wouldn't mind if the full map opened up for travel a bit earlier too. Maybe after Grave Robbing? At some point in the story before the ending you aught to have earned Kamea's trust enough to be let off your short leash. I would have liked to run 3 Skull missions in the Federated Suns. Post game they are all maxed out at 5 Skulls.
Pilot's at 10/10/10/10 are definitely OP, pushing nearly every mechanic in the game to a breaking point. This probably comes down to the fact that it's always the same amount of XP to advance on each of the tracks, making it easier and easier to max out a pilot the later you get into the game. They should probably scale all the XP costs up by 10% each time you train a skill. Or something to slow it down.
Also, the enemies on the final mission definitely should have been rocking more tonnage.
I think the bigger issue with the map is that around the mid game you’re just getting travel contracts between 3-4 of the Restoration systems. I almost wonder if the contract generation system isn’t bugged. I keep getting a contract to go to a system, I do it, and then the only non-story contracts available will be two travel contracts, both to the same system.
I think that's a misunderstanding about contracts on your part. Travel contracts exists purely so that you don't get stuck, too poor to afford travel to another payday. They also tend to guide you closer to the next priority mission, but not always. There are contracts in almost every system! In fact, I found that once I split from Aurigan space towards the Periphery, I was scoring 3 contracts on nearly every planet I visited. Probably because I'd never visited them before.
They kind of explain this. But I feel like they also heavily imply you are best off just sticking to travel contracts. You really aren't. Just go wherever you want, you'll have a lot more fun.
Thank you Bug that forced me to withdraw, I'd have never gotten that achievement without you.
I ended up putting 60 LRMS on a Highlander..
I.. want the variant with a 4th missile hardpoint..
I wants it bad.
I needs it.
I have determined that dekker isn't cursed. My avatar is. in 30 deployments she has been injured in 23 of them. so far only once from a dead mech.
Dekker survived my entire campaign, 50 some deployments. I'm just assuming at this point he will get killed in the first mission next time to balance that out.
