Played a few games of NuAzmo today aaaand I like him. I definitively like him WAY better than old Azmo. Tide of Sin feels much better in use and practice than Black Pool EVER did. Maybe the numbers aren't quite right and all with Azmo as a whole, but he feels great.

I died SEVEN times this game (largely because we didn't have Aegis, and Kael took Pyroblast, and Auriel would res me into the middle of all 5 enemies and I'd die AGAIN.....) but I still topped EVERYTHING. Even hit 400 at the end, which is pretty impressive for BoE.

I've played with both Wrath and Gluttony, I like Wrath better but it was NOT the pick for that game (no fucking way was I gonna be able to sit there and AA). Gluttony's pretty dece though, landing 3-5 man Qs gives you hella stacks.

Also, Hell Rift at 16 is HIGHLY underrated and an extremely good siege tool (it works on EVERYTHING, not just Heroes!)

Az is fine, but he’s super late game now since it’s basically impossible to pick a “I’ll be done this quest in 3 minutes” option anymore and he still needs his ults to do anything.

I wish they had fixed that a little bit.

So, I think I may be confused on a few mechanics.

Armor. Does armor give damage reduction to both AA and ability damage?

I thought only spell armor abilities reduced ability damage.

Is "protected" by default on all characters like Varian's non shield wall version or is his the exception?

I feel like there's too many weird exceptions to these little defenses here and there.

If it just says "armor", it works on everything. You're right about spell armor, and there's also physical armor (block, Yrel's Dauntless talent). So there's three types of armor--one for everything, one for spells, one for autos (and I assume that one weird talent Maiev has that specifically says it deals physical damage).

Protected is its own thing, I think, but is effectively 100 armor. Complete protection from both spell and physical damage. Varian's Parry by default is basically 100 physical armor, and getting Shield Wall effectively adds 100 spell armor.

There's Physical Armor, which reduces basic attack damage (like the Block talent that some heroes have at lvl 1). There's Spell Armor, which reduces ability damage (like Anub's shield ability). Then there's Armor, which does both (like one of Varian's flags he can put down).

Protected means you cannot take any damage. You can still be stunned. Varian gains Protected on his ability if he picks Shield Wall. Without Shield Wall, he doesn't have Protected, he just can't get hurt by basic attacks. I don't know if this status has a name or not (maybe just "Parrying"?)

Holy crap. That changes everything. I thought "Armor" was always just physical. So I ignored any armor boosters if there were primarily mages. Wow, so Uther's heals give full on DR not just reduction versus AA damage. Wow.

Protected is a status that makes you invulnerable. It's probably easier to understand if you divorce it from armor entirely, since its effect is not impacted by armor buffs/debuffs.

Percentage-based damage, such as Malthael's trait, is not impacted by any armor whatsoever.

Physical armor impacts hero basic attacks, but also things like structure shots, minion, and monster damage.

There can be confusion here because, for example, Cassia's trait specifically calls out heroic physical damage.

Three things in human life are important: the first is to be kind; the second is to be kind; and the third is to be kind.

One last little thing I'll add on, here:

So yeah, you can still be stunned/CC'd during Protected, but you're still immune to damage during that, UNLESS you are Genji.

Genji is the one specific case where getting stunned DOES cancel his Protected.

Everyone else? Nah, enjoy that invincibility.

Yeah, that's why he was crazy broken when Guardian of Kings gave 75 (and later, 50) Armor to stunned targets. Stunning someone actually made the victim way harder to kill if the other team had an Uther, because it was an insane amount of damage reduction.

Also above points are fair, I forgot about % damage going through armor (despite that being the core part of why people pick things like Malthael into Garrosh).

Yeah, and it probably helps keep Uther out of total garbage status, but he's still pretty meh right now. It's 15% DR with a not really impressive uptime.

tbh, in dodge brawl, i just stand still if my team gets behind.

it's for the good of everyone, i don't want to win that bad and otherwise the rounds take an actual eternity. had an 11 minute game over the weekend because 2 1 on 1s just could never hit each other for like 4+ minutes.

Since all my heroes (besides Yrel) are level 10+, Brawls are still my fastest/easiest to get chest each week. I don't disagree that the reward is lackluster, though. It does feel a little more rewarding during the holiday event chests, even though it's still just a common chest, since I'm usually looking to get as many of the holiday chests as possible.

I'm of the complete opposite opinion, I vastly prefer NuAzmo over Old Azmo.

He just feels more streamlined now. Old Azmo was kinda finnicky and wasn't really meant to actually, like, be in fights? Like almost all of his value was gained from clearing lanes while not being there, essentially with a sort of psuedo-global presence. He was much more in the old school Specialist kind of vein of just pushpushpush siegesiegesiege soaksoaksoak ignore the whole rest of the actual game.

New Azmo is the total opposite and wants to teamfight and wants to be in the thick of things. Wrath build is really fun and encourages that even more. His new Laser is REALLY good.

If you weren't using old Azmodan in teamfights, you were missing out on a ton of value. The whole point of azmodunk was to relentlessly apply pressure to the other team. In lane and against their healthbars. New Azmodan is a sick joke at this.

Yeah but that's exactly how I played old Azmo and it never felt like I got much value doing that. Like it felt like actually teamfighting with him was "wrong", but I kept doing it anyway.

I'd see Azmos doing the thing I described instead and getting way more value that way. Shrug.

Pressuring the opposing teams health bars doesn't depend on a 15 sec cooldown. Team fights where old azmo was over bearing to the other team just meant both teams lacked any engage and danced around for way too long, and played into azmo's trait for no reason what so ever.

They’re one of 4 heroes I’m missing, but every time they come up in free rotation I play them once and remember how useless they are. If you get a perfect comp, they are at best glorified xp soak. It’s like Aba soak, except you don’t get hats or a clone in fights.

I mean, I'd do it. 25k gold and you only have one hero not owned? That will leave you with enough gold to get the next hero when they drop to 10k gold and then by the time the following hero comes out you will definitely have gotten 5k+ gold to get them. Sounds like you are in the position I want to be in, have the entire roster and the gold to barely need to worry about new heroes coming out.

i bought probius, he used to be amusing before cc and burstsplosions ran wild on the meta.

the only heroes i don't own rn are tlv, genji, and medivh. i didn't own blaze but i got him in a box this week. no real interest in playing any of them or i'd buy them, sitting on 220k gold rn.

i wish they'd make an assassin that was good at punishing mages like ktz and chromie but didn't require you to be an amped up 15 year old to have enough apm to make them go.

If you buy them, just use the gold. You have plenty really. The gems can be saved up and used for better things. What all can gold be used for anyways? Heroes and the occasional mount? Just use the gold.

As some said, if you think you'd never play them, why get them at all? Which is definitely a valid point. However, again, what else are you going to spend that gold on? Might as well collect all the heroes. I'm just about in the same boat as you as well. I have about 20k-ish gold, and 4 heroes left. Valeera, Genji, Hammer, and TLV. I'll get Valeera for sure. I've played Genji and Hammer to 5 and I just don't know that I like them (in other words I suck at them). Then TLV...well they're TLV. But I'm sure I'll get them just because I'll collect them and what else will I do with the gold? I just always make sure I've got enough gold to grab newer heroes when they drop to 10k since I'd probably rather get those than any of the others left.

So let's talk about Lucio for a sec

Reverse amp is, in fact, *real good*. I'm not surprised more people don't pick it, which I think is partially because of the HotS mentality that "supports are for heals!!!" but I feel like more people *should*, especially if you're in a team with melee assassins, or with people who actually go in for clear setups. The latter is rare, yes! But when it works it WORKS. It is an AMAZING tool for grabbing people who are fleeing with the slowdown mode, and yeah, it deals an asston of damage.

This is hard to pull off without dying, but one of the best tools I've found with it is to take Accelerando at 1, Subwoofer at 4 (+50% extra knockback if the enemy hero is next to you), and then Reverse Amp at 10. Wall ride to where the hero you want to seperate out from the team is, use the Knockback, then Reverse Amp + Speed Boost + Amp it Up. Wiggle your butt and keep the enemy hero JUST at the edge range of Reverse Amp so they remain slowed, but keep yourself safe. You can basically sheepdog herd / juggle specific heroes this way if you're careful right into your bruisers & assassins. IT IS NOT EASY, AND FOR SURE SOUND BARRIER IS THE MUCH SAFER PICK, but *holy fuck is it fun*. You can also quickly swap back to the Damage side once you've got somebody out of range of their healers and burst 'em down that way.

    DAMAGE LUCIO GAIZ.

I've been a proponent of Reverse Amp/Bonus Track Lucio since he came out. There was a long stretch where I constantly got shit for it in QM but I stuck to it because it's such a blast to play.

people take sound barrier because lucio's biggest problem is preventing deaths, as his sustain is very high but burst is very low. reverse amp heals more because of the duration increase on amp it up.

they're both good though, i still like the old reverse amp + crossfade talent at 20 build so you're healing 60% on the entire team every time you amp, though it can be hard to survive to that point lol.

Yup. Sound Barrier + his %HP talent at 16 + the upgrade to give it a ludicrous 30 second cooldown makes Lucio an incredibly hard healer to push through for most teams. Without really good focus fire it's extremely difficult to kill anything on his team, especially if you are running like a double tank setup or something similar with a lot of beef.
