There’s something wrong with the stats screen, it never displays the right stats, for instance my number of goon kills and spy drone kills actually went down randomly, when previously they were counting up

This is why you use Xbox’s achievement tracking system developers! I hate when they don’t take advantage of that system, it makes it so much easier to track progress in achievements like “kill X number of enemies”

Also is there any way to track all the locations you’ve done? Why is this basic stuff sometimes left out of games. Give me a 0/20 for locations completed in a region please

Finally got the Hyperpulse Cannon, so I just need the Settler Pistol and I've got every gun, then it's time to start knocking over those Outposts. Holy shit when this thing is in Overdrive it looks mean.

There's a challenge going for a weapon skin which looks pretty cool, unfortunately it's for the pistol that I only ever get out to break crates.

Beat the game just now. I'd say my final hour count was at least 15 hrs. I cleared almost the entire map save for two ?s that i have no idea how to get past. One is south west, right at the edge and there is a giant metal gate blocking entry. Can't remember the other lol

Also for those on PC; if you were dumb enough to buy the standard edition off Bethesda.net, the currently isn't a way to buy the dlc. It also runs like shit if the bethesda launcher is used. I highly recommend adding the executable to Steam and just not using their own launcher at all.

I’m assuming some of those question marks are dlc. I’m trying to do the racing under 3 minutes achievement and for the life of me I can’t figure out how to start a race. The bulletin board is empty and I can’t see anything else to interact with?

Irritatingly the only way to buy it on Steam was to buy directly through Steam for full price (in Australia and NZ, higher than full price). I’m sure a lot of PC players wound up with the Bethesda version because they bought it through Humble, Fanatical, GMG, etc for the discount and those only had Bethesda keys.

I’m wondering if there’s any way to narrow down spy drone locations, I have two to go, so it feels like my only option is to just visit every settlement and look for a ping on my radar

I saw one once and don’t even know what they’re for. Are they just an achievement ‘collectible’?

Luckily I picked up the deluxe edition. I toned the settings down a little because the weird texture streaming they use to maintain 60 fps makes me motion sick, but it still runs great for me.

Man, I love this game. Every time I boot it up to dive into doing something, I get side tracked and find new stuff. I only just found now, 15 hours in, that Accession abilities have leveled perks?! That's what, the 6th upgrade system in the game? And I only just found it. I planned on making inroads into the bandit outposts tonight, and took out a few of them, before noticing some question marks on my map I hadn't seen before. So I went exploring and just kept exploring again. The racetrack has a bar! There's a 4th town in The Wilds, which seems really odd because the other three have progress tied to them and this one doesn't.

I get that the world feels small, but its so dense. Playing things like Mad Max, Just Cause, Assassins Creed, etc the worlds are huge, but the distance between stuff to do is also huge. This feels like around every corner, there's something to find. Reviewers that complained that the world felt generic apocalyptic, the more I explore it the more it feels pretty unique. This is an Earth that's been belted with a meteor that was big enough to crack the moon in half while passing through. You've got all these different elements - twisted highways, dead cities, wind farms, science facilities etc but it's all been upheaved and dropped. It's not where it should be. It's all more vertical than it should be with massive cliffs and canyons after the Earths crust has shifted. Sure it makes it a nightmare to navigate, but I don't think it's generic. Also the little touches like when you move off the road, your car kicks up rocks and rubbish. It's got such a small, personal feel to it.

I really wish it got a better reception because I love the world and world building they've done, you just need to look for it.

Yeah the reception has bummed me out, for me it felt like an antidote to far cry 5 but that got way better reviews and a way better reception. It always is sad when I’m enjoying a game so much but everyone else is cold or negative about it

The gunplay especially is so fun, like just phenomenally good. and the lore and world is something I’d like to see more of, particularly the shrouded

Unfortunately I 100%ed it and have nothing else to do, but I’d love to play more. Looking forward to dlc

Speaking of DLC, the next few months has a series of free ‘World Event’ DLC.

This months is ‘Bring the Ruckus’ and shows an Abadon Giant. Next months is ‘Mech yourself before you wreck yourself’ and has a big bipedal Mech, and also has a new ride. Next is ‘Global Worming’, specifying a new enemy. Then August there’s Mutant Derby, and ‘Fall’ has ‘Attack of the Drones’ which also has a new enemy.

That got me thinking what these ‘World Events’ are in a single player game. Given they just did a new free update for Just Cause 4 that added destructible statues and bridges around the world map, I’m hoping they’re like Outposts, Mutie Nests, Fallen Rangers and the like, just adding more and more varied activities.

    Ah here we go
This game will also see some interesting updates after launch which will affect the state of the world. In a recent trailer, there were some references to an in-world event that has you fight mutants for a TV program.

Yes! So, we'll have events and we can churn in activities on the occasion. But you do not need to always be online for this game. So was a little bit of confusion recently, but if you are connected to the internet, you can participate in these live events. If you're not, then just play the base game and have fun. We can make these cool events happen that will kinda keep people engaged as we can deliver them more content in the future.

So Rage 2 six to seven month from now will potentially be a different game than the one we've got at launch?

Yes, that's the plan! Hopefully, people will stay with it. I do think we have a good plan. We have some cool beats that we'll talk about after the game launches, and what the framework looks like moving forward. When you play the full game, you can see that there's room for things to expand, and we will continually layer things in to keep people engaged.

It seems like the idea of the evolving game or a games-as-a-service title is becoming more commonplace now. Is Rage 2 in that similar school of thought?

No, it will just be a supported game. I don't know, it's so hard to--like someone needs to come up with a perfect definition of what a "games-as-a-service" game actually is. Many people have different ideas of that, and I may have confused people originally when I started talking about this. What we're planning on doing is creating some updates and content for this game after we launch. So, we monitor the game, we monitor the players, we act in the community, we're gonna support it, we're gonna update it. It's not like a subscription or a free-to-play game. But it will be supported.

Though previous id Software shooters have seen updates after launch, this game seems more about expanding the world itself and the content therein. This seems to be new territory for you all.

That's true, but it's honestly the direction that the industry is moving toward. Fans spend so much time with our games, and people want to know that the thing that they enjoy is being supported and that the developers stand behind it, and that they will continue to improve the experience. If you're gonna dedicate so much of your time, when there are so many other things to do, you want that commitment from the other side. So that's what we are gonna try to do, which is something that's new for us, so hopefully, it'll work.

Saw a comment on Facebook, where they posted this weeks challenge - community needs to knock over 250,000 outposts to unlock an AR skin. Someone mentioned that it's kinda hard to do what this week when they've already 100% completed the game, and they responded that they're looking at adding a 're-invade outposts' option. So at least we know they know we want to kill more stuff in the game, and they're looking at the solution they gave Just Cause 3.

Speaking of Just Cause 3, this game made me reinstall that because I remembered I hadn't finished it. It's been a good 6 months since I stopped, so it was interesting to essentially check off almost everything Rage 2 gets criticized for being in Just Cause 3.
Unmemorable map? Check. It's just massively bigger. Absolutely massive stretches of pure nothing between outposts. World is gorgeous though, but about 80% of it might as well not exist, even a lot of the towns.
Uneventful open world? Check. Doesn't even had firefights breaking out that you can join. Completing areas is just 'destroy 3-5 outposts to clear it, with some challenges scattered around that unlock perks.
Bad vehicle combat? At least with mouse and keyboard, check. Tanks aiming is thrown off by the slightest bump, helicopters swoop and sway making aiming hilariously difficult, and planes might as well not exist. I guess this is more a PC thing though.
Bad writing? Check. Though it seems both are on purpose - both are going for a 'we know it's dumb and cliche but just enjoy blowing shit up'.

Looks like Avalanche games seem to have the same issues? I hear good things about Mad Max, which I also just installed, so when I get around to that it'll be fun looking at the comparisons.

Some areas in jc3 had good in the wild fire fights, but beating up outposts would stop the spawns once you liberated an area... And they'd not come back when you reset.

Which given that crazy highway murder shenanigans was jc3 best part was a real waste.

Ideas hate it when you anthropomorphize them

Was this in the Wetlands? I just did the pre order mission, Cult of the Death God, and it sent me to the west side of the Wetlands, and there was a huge cave with a blocked opening that was marked with a question mark. There was an area I could jump into through the metal gate. The mission was inside this area.

It was also a fucken rad mission. They need to sneak some missions into the game like this. It had no bearing on the story, just a dude gives you a quest, and you go through like a normal mission with a unique boss at the end. It swamps you with Muties. So many Muties. So many Overdrives.

20 hours, still have half of the Dune Sea to clear, more of the Wetlands, pretty much all of the Wilds and most of the topmost desert area, and still have a few story missions to go. Guess I'm slow? But I really enjoy driving around this world, exploring it. My explorations managed to take me under the map today.

Did you trigger the mission? There will be an orange diamond like other missions that starts elsewhere, which then sends you there. You need to get to Gunbarrel first and do the mission, since Marshal gives you the quest.

Might be a case of needing to have your Bethesda account linked when it is meant to trigger.

The Bethesda account link seems to be causing problems so I’m guessing it’ll be part of the 30 day patch that’s on their roadmap.

I never even tried to link my account, after deleting the Bethesda launcher I just forgot about it but my game picked it up immediately.

    You’re running on Bethesda’s launcher?

Odd that it works better onSteam linking to a Bethesda account than their own launcher.

But then I remember trying to get my account set up in the first place and yeah they’re bad at this.

I'm glad I read between the lines on Giant Bomb's coverage of this and figured I would probably like it. I do! I really like the powers, they keep thing fresh from just shooting. And I love a good upgrade system, and this game has several. Going from shotgun to overdrive to slam to assault rifle feels really nice and smooth.

A couple of their complaints are valid though. The weapons outside of the assault rifle and shotgun are not good. The revolver is straight up bad. I just got the rocket launcher and it's probably my third favorite, but I'm having a bit of a hard time working it in with the shotgun/AR combo that has served me so well. I do want to get the other 3 that are hidden in arks to try out, but I'm afraid I'll probably just stick with those 2.

The menu is also tremendously laggy, kind of shocking for an id game to feel this sludgy. And you're in it a lot with the map and all the upgrading.

The car combat is good, but not quite as good/satisfying as Mad Max, which I also liked a lot more than most. I wish there were different convoys, like Goon Squad ones, to take out.

All in all though I'm really enjoying it.

The Grav Dart Launcher, Rocket Launcher, Hyper Cannon and other rapid fire laser cannon are all legitimately good with a few mods. The only gun I never found a use for was the Firestorm Revolver.

The main issue is the AR and Shotgun are so good that unless you’re playing higher difficulties there’s no reason to experiment.

Finally finished the story (at 29 hours). Still got a good 1/4 of outposts and stuff to do. I still keep getting side tracked. At the moment I’m trying to find some wild Abadon Crushers, they just don’t want to spawn for me.

Bring the Ruckus event is this weekend. We finally get to see what their events add to the game. I’ll be honest - if it’s a weekend only single new icon to kill one special Abadon Crusher I’ll be a bit disappointed.

Also I think I figured out where at least one paid DLC will take us. If you go to the Eden Space Center and look out over the waste, in the distance there’s a ruined city, and to the far left there’s a broken bridge leading to it. There was a reference at some point to someone going to the ‘overgrown city’. Really hope we go there.

Just saw this on the Bethesda boards... and it sounds awesome.
We’ve seen the feedback that you want to be able to revisit some of the bandit camps that you’ve previously cleared. We love that feedback! In the near future, select bandit camps that you’ve cleared are going to be repopulated at an even higher difficulty with a reward incentive. The best part? The challenge is ongoing, so you can test your skills as you attempt to clear the outposts again and again, with the outposts getting more difficult each time. More details to come!

Hmmm. Might be worth moving discussion to the Doom/Quake thread? Not much going on for its own thread.

Anyway, the 30 day update is coming and they’ve confirmed that repeatable enemy camps are in it. That didn’t take long.

Hopefully the bigger camps are the ones that gradually get harder.

Yeah, I picked it up for 20 bucks and holy shit is the Avalanche aspect of this overbearing. Do you enjoy long, monotonous, winding drives thanks to a minimal availability of fast travel? Well, this is your game! It feels like the driving was cut and pasted for the Mad Max game with some new non-desert environments thrown in, which is not a compliment; journeys that could take minimal time on a straight line instead take kilometers and kilometeres longer, simply because the terrain is chopped up to expressly prevent the player from having the freedom to beeline anywhere.

The gunplay is fine, but I haven't even been playing for more than an hour or two and I'm already getting annoyed at how slow the progression is. There's a whole pile of weapons and upgrades available and it looks like I'll have to do a fuckload of pretty tedious driving to get even half of this stuff.

I figure I'll get my 20 bucks out of it, but I dunno if I'll have the patience to finish this out.

You can beeline through the story and finish it with the 3 guns you get as part of the story missions and no powers easily. It's not a hard game unless you crank it to Nightmare.

You get guns and powers from Arks, which you can find by driving around or buy their locations from an information dealer in towns. Honestly the gunplay is pure id software magic when you've got all of the guns and powers. It really wish they didn't make them take so long to acquire.

Yeah, I can easily see my interest in the game being purely a matter of how quickly I can acquire the additional guns and abilities. Right now, there's every indication that the Avalanche bloat will turn it into a massive, massive chore to get even halfway to a really enjoyable level of new gear and powers.

Oof, this game is just painfully reminiscent of the Mad Max game and I've definitely hit my limit. There are way too fucking many collectible bits and pieces, there's only three fast travel locations in the whole map, and the combat is just not a challenge at all. It's just a massive time suck, with basically no story worth speaking of.

Whereas each combat sequence in DOOM '16 is well-built, tight, and providing ample opportunity to utilize the many upgrades you find, RAGE 2 is desperately trying to gloss over that it's the same fight repeated about 500 times and it's padding the shit out of the game length by hiding every last upgrade. It's EXTREMELY tedious, given that the game gives you no fucking clue where to get new guns or abilities. Shit, it won't even show you where the containers are at a base you've cleared despite having an X-ray sensor mode for showing that exact kind of useful info. Who the fuck thought it would be fun to make players scour bases full of junk to find datapads to go find other junk in other bases? Just show me where the fucking datapad is through the sensor mode.

Progress is just way too fucking slow for the combat to be entertaining, especially given that I've been handily dealing with bases ranked 8 or 9 out of 10 for difficulty by using nothing more than the assault rifle and pistol. And what the hell is the deal with the wingblade thing? It apparently does fuckall to enemies other than floating by them; even worse, it can fly back to you and a charge still gets consumed.

The only other power I've found besides Dash is Rush, which seems 1000% redundant. It makes you move faster while sprinting, but why I use that when I can just Dash? And Dash works in every direction and in the air as well. Maybe if you could equip both abilities at once, but nope, it's one or the other.

    Extremely unimpressed with this game.

  • -Loki--Loki- Don't pee in my mouth and tell me it's raining. Registered User regular
The combat seems like you might have gotten the difficulty bug that's been in the game since the start - no matter what difficulty you set, once you close and restart the game it sets to easy. Didn't happen to me but a lot of people got it. Finding crates is easier with an upgrade that both shows how far away they are on a little range finder, and shows them on your compass. Coupled with Focus to let you see through walls, you end up finding them pretty quickly.

There's actually 5 fast travel locations - there's one in the desert and one in the jungle.

Rush is better on harder difficulties, since the assault rifle won't one hit headshot enemies. It lets you much more quickly close with them so you can Slam or Shatter them first.

LIke I said, the combat really needs all of the guns to shine. Preferable on Hard or Nightmare difficulty as well, which gets hard enough that you need to use all of your powers and guns to get through fights. It's straight up bad design making it so hard to find all of your guns and powers, and making game so easy until you crank the difficulty back up. Also that difficulty bug should have been fixed day one, yet here we are 3 months later.
