Like I know it fits by the basic definition so it technically is
But it goes so hard on such non-comedic material so much more than any other sitcom I've ever seen that I can't see it as one
Trite as the term may be, I find "dramedy" to be a distinct separate thing. Sitcoms rarely get truly serious--even something like Scrubs which deals with a lot of serious topics and occasionally goes straight for the heart is still primarily focused on comedy, whereas Bojack feels more like a dramatic show that also happens to be hilarious.
But, like, genres are a super subjective thing so I ain't gonna say someone else can't use it, this is just why it doesn't make my personal list.

Actually, I'm not sure if there are any individual characters from Bojack that I would count in my top whatever.
I mean I love the show and I like a lot of the characters (despite myself, at times), but a lot of that ends up hinging more on the role they fulfill within a cohesive whole than the individual character. Like if I say that Todd is one of my favorite characters, that feels more like I'm saying that Todd's wacky misadventures are my favorite than Todd's brutal rebuke of Bojack, y'know?
Bojack or Diane probably gets closest as an individual character, but I'm not sure either of them really have the power to dislodge any of my top five (which is currently a top six due to some minor indecision) either.

doing animated-only off the cuff I'd say
Jason - Home Movies
Coach McGuirk - Home Movies
Paula - Home Movies
Daria - Daria
Bobby Hill - King of the Hill
Bojack might could take one of those spots for himself, but I haven't the energy to figure it out atm

Honestly surprised Janet is so heavily favored as the Good Place rep, not because she’s not amazing (she is), but because it’s hard to single out anyone in the cast for me, I was this close to putting Chidi because he’s such an amazing straight man, or Jason for the same reason Eric is on this list, or Michael or Tahani or
Also there’s a secret other list in my heart that’s Troy Barnes, Jeff Winger, Abed Nadir, Annie Edison, and Craig Pelton

I'd actually be really interested to know people's feelings on best character from various generally well liked around here sitcoms. Obviously we're seeing some of that with all of these lists, but I'd be more interested in the raw data on these.
For instance, for myself (I went with all main characters, although I'd also love to do this sort of exercise with minor characters as well):
Parks and Rec: April Ludgate
The Good Place: Jason Mendoza
Brooklyn 99: Rosa Diaz
Community: Troy
New Girl: Nick Miller
Don't Trust the B: Chloe
Happy Endings: Max (I think, but maybe actually Alex?)
Party Down: Henry
Oh I think Chidi is the best Good Place character, he feels the most fully-realized by far
Jason feels like Mike Schur Dumb Guy #7B, and while he’s good, he’s basically the same as previous shows
Chidi feels like a new and fresh take on a well-worn character type, the nebbishy prude
I find one of my favorite things about Chidi is that he fills the Ben Wyatt-shaped hole in my life
I ultimately went with Eleanor because I’ve been really, truly moved by her quest to be a better person a number of times. Her earthbound flashbacks tend to fall flat for me, but she’s terrifically funny in the afterlife and stirring an emotional response goes a long way for me

Troy Barnes is definitely the mvp of Community. New Girl harder, but in the end Miller is right.
+1

Community is either Troy or Jeff (probably Troy, but I love Jeff’s speeches and the one to Pierce’s dad is an all-time great)
New Girl is either Schmidt or Nick and I’d probably give it to Nick

I can't be objective about Alex because I have a massive crush on her.
"I'm not as dumb as I am" makes a strong case in her favor though

I like that Michael Schur basically owned the top two or three spots on the thread's favorite sitcom character list.
Everything looks beautiful when you're young and pretty
Nick Offerman and Michael Schur managed to create a libertarian who I didn't want to push into a wood chipper, and that's still mind-boggling. Ron has gotta be a strong contender ... but I think Ben wins out.

Jeff and Britta are good but didnt fire on all cylinders for me
Pierce is a racist asshole who was played by a real asshole
Annie and Shirley are fun and have some great episodes but are a little too one note at times
Abed tries way too hard a few times through the series and has some of the toughest parts of the show
Troy has a good character arc, consistent growth, has some fantastic relationships and left the show on a high note

Its gotta be Rusty. The man who despite all common sense had enough hope to think Dolly Parton did a porno is truly a great.
Though I consider Venture brothers to be an action comedy not a sitcom
Allison Jones is very good at what she does.
She has as much character growth as any character in any show I've ever seen.
