Yeah! I liked it, although it was very clearly setting the stage for the rest of the run rather than an exciting standalone debut
Awesome, thanks for the info. I might pick it up. I've slowly been dropping my Marvel books as all the ones I've enjoyed have been canceled on me, so my reading list is light. I'm also tempted to pick up Astonishing X-Men, as Rosenberg has been pretty good in New Mutants and Multiple Man, but Greg Land is a big turn off for me.
Have you checked out Exiles or Runaways? Those are really good books that more people should be buying.
Exiles I wanted to read but forgot to have a copy held for me when #1 came out and they ran out of copies. I forgot it for the next couple of times, and now am just behind.
Runaways I got turned off by Rowell’s awkward history with writing Asian characters and never heard her addressing the problems with her previous writing so I didn’t pick it up. Did she ever address the issue?
A Mid Credits scene to Ant-Man and the Wasp got leaked so heads up. I got spoiled on Twitter by some asshat
Without looking it up, I'm going to guess it's the obvious one.

Hank, Hope and Janet all get dusted while Scott is exploring the Quantum Realm and now he is stuck there with no immediate way out
Ah, good to see they're keeping up the IW tradition of killing off as many non white dude characters as they can
I mean the whole point is Scott is the most hapless one of the four so his being trapped, alone is way more dangerous than Hope or Janet who could figure their way out easier
Also both Bill Foster and Ghost live through the film and are probably key to getting Scott out
Also also Sebastian Stan already confirmed he filmed scenes with Michelle Pfieffer, Michael Douglas and Evangeline Lilly for A4 so they're "dead" for like 9 months

Exiles is only four issues in, it should be pretty easy to catch up.
As far as I know, Rowell has not addressed her history with Asian characters. I don't want to be dismissive, but I read a bit about people's issues with her writing, and it seemed like a fairly minor deal to me. I don't know that it warrants boycotting her work completely.

Yes, I know it's going to be temporary. But when your franchise is already criticized for lacking in diversity, even temporarily killing most of your minority characters as a plot device is bad optics.

Ah righto I'll pull the trigger on the thread and save the quarantine
Well then you're not paying attention to the wealth and breadth of my strong posting and all the many things I'm passionate about!
I think one of the incredibly correct decisions in A4 was to keep Ant-Man separate from the things that were going on because it could exist as a palate cleanser from the sadness. Ending the movie with an A4 dusting is the opposite of a palate cleanser.

That is 100% how I felt about it, reading that spoiler
regarding spoilers, basically agreeing with gnome:
I was gonna check out Ant Man because it was separate from the bad avengers stuff
Now that I know that's not the case, I'm not gonna see it
The entire movie itself is entirely isolated
It's literally only the end credits scene that ties in
Given the timing of Ant-Man & The Wasp, I pretty much assumed that one of the post-credits scenes would be a dusting. Which sucks, but that's more a fault of Infinity War being over-long garbage.
I still fully intend to watch (and will almost certainly enjoy) the actual movie.

It's still in continuity, that's still how the movie ends
so its NOT isolated
I mean
Sure whatever man I get you don't like Infinity War and you don't have to see this movie
But when 99.9% of the movie doesn't tie in even a little bit and then an after credits scene which is not at all required for the plot of the movie itself to be enjoyed or completed does the in I feel like you could just leave the theeqtee when the credits roll and be perfectly fine?

Putting a reminder of one of my least favorite parts of a movie I disliked so much it caused me to re-evaluate my feelings on other movies is a really good way to ruin my enjoyment of the film

I'm actually really interested in that, because Janet being stuck in the Quantum Realm has been an overarching question, and with them rescuing her in this movie means that Scott is now in her position. It puts him in a cool place for the next avengers movie - maybe he has a side plot about the QR that's relevant?! I dunno, it's neat though.

100% convinced that the Soul Stone people are going to have a B plot where they're working together, and Dr. Strange and Hank will magic/science combo their way out

I mean, no, not really, at that point you're basically saying "Well if you pretend the movie is different than it is its fine"
Infinity War is one of the most upsetting and disturbing things I've ever seen in media, and I can't just pretend Ant Man actually has a different ending that I'd prefer, my brain doesn't work that way
I'm not interested in going to a thread about a movie I've decided not to see, but I get that the nested spoilers are irritating so I'm fine with just dropping the conversation
I wonder if they will explore positive happenstance consequences of the dustening, you tend to immediately think of suddenly pilotless aircraft and plumberless toilet surgery but there had to be a bunch of pleasing coincidences, like you're at Timmies just gritting your teeth listening to a table of total wankers discussing something apalling but then they all turn to dust except the worst one who starts weeping

Leave before the mid credits then...?
Because it all is very eerie and disturbing. But I enjoyed it immensely. The 'oooooooh' of the crowd was a great addition to it all.
Alright, no more AMaTW talk from me here.
Can we get the chemicals in. 'Cause anything's better than this.
Guess I'm stepping out of this thread until I see the movie so I don't accidentally open one of those spoilers. First time in awhile I'm seeing a Marvel movie opening night though, so that's not too long of a wait.
Black Panther #2: still beautiful to look at, but I'm missing the previous direction.
Dr. Strange #3: Told the shop I wanted to cancel it, but I still have a few issues left before that goes through. Every issue I hate more so far.
Non-Marvel: Descender: penultimate issue!
And picked up some older trades cause they were on sale. Amazing X-Men: I already had volume 1, but dropped the series when Aaron left.
So Amazing X-Men tpb 2-3. Spoilered for long winded whining.
In short, the next two trades are not very good so far. The third I haven't finished yet, but the second is ranging between bad and forgettable.
So the second trade starts with an Iceman/Spider-Man/Firestar story by Kathryn Immonen and it reads like bad improv. Characters throwing lines at each other instead of talking to each other. Firestar thinks she finds an abandoned baby, it's actually an alien. Spider-Man tries to capture the alien and uses lines like "Drop it, sister!" and "Give it to me and nobody gets hurt." (literal quotes from the comic). Firestar obviously thinks Spider-Man is the bad guy..wonder why. Jeez, Kathryn, you're a better writer than this.
Next story is Wendigo curse spreading around by Kyle and Yost it's pretty much a meaningless X-Men fight monsters story. Not terrible, but Aurora is the worst in this.
In trade 3 there is a story about Anole going on a date which is ruined by Martinique Wyngarde (though the entire story she is drawn as Regan Wyngarde. Oops). Northstar is a terrible teacher that cares not about his responsibilities (weird, cause in Nunzio and Christina's New Mutants, Northstar was established as pretty much the best teacher on the X-Men IMHO. (BTW: Read their New Mutants, low on action, but great on character work). This time it's James Tynion IV (is that an American thing to include a number in your name if your dad was called the same? Never heard it over here). Core idea of the story is good though (Anole is insecure about his looks, Northstar while understanding dealing with being gay, can't really understand that. Nightcrawler comes in and helps him deal with it. I like Nightcrawler's speech, though I don't think I ever saw Nightcrawler as ugly; he was always was one of the most attractive X-Men to me. Might be the charm and attitude as he says himself in this book.

On October 3, the mutant called Shatterstar decides to go it alone.
A gladiator, a warrior, and a Super Hero…Shatterstar has been many different things, but throughout it all, he’s always been deadly. This fall, enter the darkness with SHATTERSTAR #1!
Written by Tim Seeley with art by Carlos Villa, the limited series will be a new birth for the long-beloved character. “I was 12 years-old when I first saw Shatterstar in the pages of NEW MUTANTS, and I was the perfect age to be intrigued by him,” the writer explains. “The dude’s an alien gladiator! And within pages of us meeting him, he stabs himself with his own swords in order to kill the bad guy standing behind him.”
Seeley’s perspective on the character has evolved since then, and it seems that very evolution may be a focus of the new series. “My interest in him now is more in the ‘hardboiled noir’ aspects of the character,” he says. “He’s this guy whose life was violence for sport—and now he’s trying to move on from that. But it’s such a thin thread that keeps him in this new line of lawfulness, and it’s an easy one to break.”
