The list of gross Bryne stuff is near unending. He retreated into his own personal forum with dedicated fans after pissing people off and that echo chamber made him 10x worse.
I mean I'm just straight up not going to do what he says about things in some cases because I went to Hampshire so I have no feeling of deference towards professors and if I disagree with them I say so <<
it's just irritating; I'm not trying to emulate 90s Marvel!
he did this thing the other week where he talked at length about how editors his age often reject people or make fun of them because they use the phrase "Word/Thought Bubble" instead of "Word/Thought Balloon" which apparently he has no problem with but apparently he hears people have problems so serious with that they mock/reject potential employees apparently lmao??
(balloon is almost exclusively used by old pros/academics and bubble is so common that frankly I've never used anything else and never ever ever hear "balloon" in general discussions with anyone under 50)
idk the superhero end of the industry seems like an insular disaster from all his anecdotes
the man compared the use of anti-black racial slurs to calling a thought balloon in comics a thought bubble instead
Okay I know that this isn't the point of that Spacetwinks tweet, but 1) what and 2) Doesn't everyone call them thought bubbles?
It took me awhile to parse that one too. Basically I think he's saying "*specific racial slurs* are a legitimate alternative names for those kinds of people, like how thought bubble is a legitimate alternate term for thought balloon"
EDIT: Oh nevermind, Couscous' explanation sinks that interpretation.
You know, for a movement that claims to be outraged about people "pretending to be a minority" in order to get work in the comics industry, Comicsgate has been strangely silent about Cebulski.
Wait... is it not actually about ethics in comic books?
Comicsgate has a somewhat lukewarm relationship with Cebulski. Cebulski cancelled a bunch of comics that the CGers hated. But he's also said some stuff that the CGers don't agree with. So they've got a theory that he's secretly on their side but he's constrained in some way and has to pretend to be a SJW. It's pretty similar to Q-Anon thinking that Trump is a genius or Mueller is actually going after Hillary.
Comicsgate isn't about ethics in comics. In some ways it's refreshingly honest about kicking out "the SJWs" and "making comics great again".
Goddamn John Byrne, you're fucking gross. Have people only started talking about this recently? I had heard of the Lobdell stuff when I started reading about his era on Uncanny X-Men, but had somehow missed John Byrne's shit.
Byrne, Dixon and Peter David's bad opinions have been known for years. I knew of them at least since the early 2000s.

To be fair, if it turned out he was sympathetic to them, I wouldn't exactly be surprised.
I know it's different divisions but god, fuck Marvel and fuck Disney.
I get the feeling that Gunn was fired so quickly because Disney handled the Lasseter situation so poorly. Either trying to show that they'd react fast to criticism or trying to distract from the news that they were planning on their MeToo affected people returning.
Cebulski's probably just corporate and would prefer if the whole comicsgate furor went away, he's reprimanded some comics professionals when they engaged with CG trolls. Which plays into CG's hands.

Comicsgate doesn’t sincerely believe in anything save “fuck people who look different than me”

I think it had tons to do with Roseanne.
The situations are vastly different, but not in headlines where it's basically both saying awful things through twitter. They had to let him go, otherwise it would be nothing more than "Disney has liberal bias!.
I haven't bought a comic in ages but after discovering what X-Men: Grand Design is I just ordered it and I am so excited.
That's the book just going through their history, but in a coherent manner, right?
Yes, it is. Part 4 (or 2 of Second Genesis) came out yesterday. Haven't finished it yet, cause it's a dense read. Piskor changed some things to streamline it a bit more, but so far it has been great.

There's an arc in Brian Bendis's Powers where an aging, bitter superman analogue spends his days raging at people on the Internet before going crazy and destroying Jerusalem and Rome. The character is directly based on Byrne and his forum posts.
IMO, the firing of James Gunn was just a handy way to get rid of someone with out spoken and inflammatory political views. There's no way Disney didn't already know about those tweets (It was literally news when he got hired to direct GotG)

In brighter (although still fucked up that it is necessary) news, Charles Soule, who was on that panel but did not say anything shitty, is offering free consultation and legal advice to any non-US comics creators who are going/planning to travel to the US for conventions or meetings, as he was an Immigration lawyer for a long time before becoming a writer
I wonder if he could extend it to the MtG artists who got detained by ICE?

At least for a long time, people in the big two were absurdly snobbish about using bubble instead of balloon. You can find rants about it in places.

For comparison, Infinity Gauntlet has sold around that mark in trade and it is 26 years old
My point, yes.
Ms. Marvel has been my favorite book since I started reading it two years ago, so this makes me very happy.
The only real stumble I've seen was because of stuff completely out of Wilson's control, and she did her best.
I wonder if he could extend it to the MtG artists who got detained by ICE?
Is this a reference to the Civil War 2 tie in? Because that was a redeeming force on that entire shitty event.
Yeah, the Ms. Marvel Covil War II tie-in was the only tie-in I liked.
I did not read that one, I’ll look it up.
Also, Ms. Marvel had a phenomenal tie-in with Secret Empire.
I thought they mainly canned it so Bendis could do a Defender series
which he bailed on pretty quickly
I don't think "signed an exclusive contract" equals "bailed on"
