I played it for a weekend and as good as the combat is, it just couldn't really sustain my interest past that. There's not much in the way of plot or character to keep you playing. The class restrictions are a downer too, because the later added classes like Valkyrie are really fun and heavily race and gender restricted which seems like a waste given how varied the race choices are.

The Boba Fett movie is donezola. At least, for the foreseeable future. This is straight from Kathleen Kennedy herself.

I'm guessing the reason is that the project morphed into The Mandalorian; the reason given is that all their focus for that aspect of the universe is on that show. Given that I wanted the Boba Fett movie to take place after ROTJ and The Mandalorian does I'm okay with this news.

(Sadly this means a (presumably) Maori undiscovered talent just lost the role of a lifetime and doesn't even know it.)

Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy: Current Priorities
    Published October 27, 2018 • Updated October 27, 2018 11:17pm • Written by Aaron Proctor • Filed under Film & TV

On Friday at a Ryan Coogler/Black Panther event, journalist Erick Weber had an opportunity to ask Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy about the status of the (rumored) Boba Fett film. She pivoted her answer to say the current priority is about "The Mandalorian" and Episode IX. The journalist then tweeted, presumptively, that the Boba Fett film is "100% dead." Kathleen in fact said no such thing, but countless blogs published the misquote.

We asked the journalist via Twitter about her answer and gained no new clarity on the interaction. We believe the journalist could have asked about a Jar Jar film and the response would likely have been the same.

A feature-length film about Boba Fett has been rumored since 2013 — and never once confirmed by Lucasfilm. It’s only official when they say so. And Kathleen Kennedy did not say "the Boba Fett film is dead," despite widespread incorrect attribution.

Our take-away from this, for what it's worth: it's not dead if it never lived. Also: quotes matter.

So it sounds like there wasn't much credence to the whole "BREAKING NEWS: KATHLEEN KENNEDY says BOBA FETT is fucking CANCELLED!" headline.

I definitely don't know(or care) about specific EU materials, it was just a joke about the Fetts getting killed in anticlimactic ways in the movies, relative to the idea that the next movie featuring a Mandalorian then similarly dies as ignobly.

Fifa and Madden both make ridiculous money off of micro transactions.
Consumers don't give a fuck and are literally proud of the way they piss money on the series.
Entire genre of video and communities on youtube centered around folk blowing money on FIFA.

I finished Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor the other day

It was... fine. There's some good adventure stuff in there and it was neat to be in Luke's head for a while, but I don't think Stover has the best dialogue or prose in the world (especially not when describing space battles, which he still tries to do a lot), and he does a lot of the old "take an Earth phrase and replace all the words with sci-fi animals" thing

I think the most ridiculous ones of those I saw was about wearing Plastisteel armor (stormtrooper armor) because "anything to slow down a blaster bolt" helps.

    And I am all.

How do you slow down a blaster bolt?!?!?!

After the initial release and a quiet period, Star Wars Resistance is back, with "High Tower".

I can see why they waited to release this one to now, and it's not because it's bad. (This one's long, and is as much detailed recap as opinion. spoilers obv)
It's because the flickering lights and paranoid atmosphere as they returned to the spy arc made me think of a Halloween episode. And of course, there's the tanker flying through fog obscuring everything, etc. There's no supernatural elements, since this show seems happily divorced from all things Force, but it was nicely atmospheric.

This episode was a tricky balancing act. Even the kids in the the audience, if they're paying attention, would already know Captain Doza's not First Order--or, at least, doesn't want to be. There's also the question of, if the power going out isn't necessary to conserve fuel but for some purpose, what purpose would it be? (This is not to say there isn't one, just that that all the explanations I can think of don't seem like the kind of thing the First Order would do.) And everyone knows that there's a fuel shipment on the way, so that explains that. Thus we have Kaz getting ready for an investigation that even the target audience of younger children must suspect is going to turn up fruitless, or, at least, not lead to "Doza = First Order". Making that tense and exciting without making the main characters look stupid for jumping to the wrong conclusions is difficult.

Hype Phazon being a friend of Tam's, whom he left behind when he hit it big, is interesting. (Relatively big, anyway.) But then it's revealed Hype also has a real character--he's into all aspects of racing and flying and respects other good pilots, of course...then came the moment that convinced me that Resistance might actually turn into something special. I realized they were giving a Rodian expressions beyond "bug-eyed alien" when he looked at Tam sitting in the corner and a wistful, almost regretful look crossed his face. It's easier to do that with stylized animation instead of prosthetics or even photorealistic CGI, of course...but this excited me.

Hype explains he doesn't do the routine stuff like bringing in fuel and supply shipments, because of course he doesn't, he's Hype Phazon...but apparently he and Doza have an agreement that when the First Order comes he'll be there and ready to fly against them. (Alternately, as revealed later in the ep, he might not have wanted to escort in what he might have known in advance was a First Order tanker. Or perhaps both.)

I continue to annoyed that Kaz is so bad at thinking on his feet when confronted by Tam and Deeku's harmless curiosity, because it makes me seriously doubt he could fool a real spy. (Even though I still think Neeku's the most likely candidate for a First Order spy. But Aunt Zee trying to throw suspicion on Doza literally the second she gets more characterization than "cynical bartender" makes me think...) I mean, he's a pilot. "I wanted to see the other Aces bring the tanker in so I could study their flying" is such an obvious answer Tam provides it for him.

And then stormtroopers disembark from the tanker and suddenly shit's gettin' real. The Colossus is a free port, it seems--everyone, even the First Order, is allowed to stop by, as long they don't cause trouble, but that doesn't mean the First Order invites questions about its goals.

I also realized about the point that Kaz is lamenting Hype didn't get him into the Tower that Kaz is trying to use his acquaintance with a famous person to get himself perks, it's just that those perks are "spy goals" and not "a more comfortable life". I'm not sure if that was deliberate or what. If people think that he's just looking to become part of Hype's entourage and get a bit of that sheen for himself it would probably help his cover, but I don't think Kaz is that clever.

I find it interesting that the Aces' Lounge is the almost uncomfortably bright clean white that Leia's ship was in episode IV. The brightness is even more uncomfortable contrasted with the gloomy lighting of the rest of the ep. I don't know when "extremely clean and bright but not hard-edged" has become Star Wars shorthand for luxury. Kaz, coming from privilege, is suddenly at home, happily chowing down on h'ors d'oeurves...and even Tam isn't immune to the view.

I think Hype, in contrast to Kaz, might be very very clever. When Kaz presses him on the First Order, he bluntly switches to talking with Tam...but rather than the almost conciliatory tone he had in the hallway and the wistful look he had at Zee's, his friendly banter with her is too barbed. He offers her real advice--that regardless of ability you can't become a real racer without a good ship--wrapped up in mocking condescension, to the point that she rightly feels insulted and wants to leave. And Kaz, who was making Hype uncomfortable, would likely have had to go with her...if he hadn't already sneaked off. When Tam runs off, Hype acts like he was just joking, but those jokes were a little too mean for someone you haven't been acquainted with in a while.

...and here's where I must wonder if Kaz might, in fact, in certain limited circumstances, be very very clever. He should know by now people don't like talking about the First Order in mixed company, never mind when they're on station, so if he wants to escape a conversation with someone he just presses them on the topic and they quickly stop talking to him, deliberately not paying him any attention, allowing him to sneak away. This is probably giving him too much credit, just like I'm probably giving Hype too much, but it's an interpretation I'll keep in mind as a possibility: that Kaz is learning how to use his obnoxious bluntness to his advantage.

And then he pulls the comlink trick, which is at once brilliant and stupid. Basically Kaz all over. Brilliant for thinking of it on short notice, but stupid because just putting a loose comlink on a food tray and expecting that to be an invisible bug. However, it quickly lets Kaz know some of what the audience knew, while also giving the audience new information, and at the same time holding back some stuff from Kaz.

Given the opening scene, I should have guessed that it would be the feedback, not the discovery of the comlink itself, that gave Kaz away. I like that they included the line "Capture him" to explain why the stormtroopers weren't just trying to murder him.

It's been a while, so a Torra/Kaz ship tease update was well overdue. I also like how the scene does include an undercurrent of "just because a girl shows interest in you doesn't mean they're romantically interested", which is an important message, especially these days.

And for once a "Kaz in physical peril but it's not because he's a clumsy twerp" scene that was at once funny, tense, well-animated, and with amazing sound design. But the stormtroopers abruptly are shooting to kill. And they still can't hit anything.

...uggggh and then we learn that Kaz took exactly the wrong information from Doza's meeting with the First Order, including him somehow still thinking it's possible Doza is a spy. Kaz is officially dumber than the kids the show's aimed at. What the hell, Filoni. At this point the only possible explanation is that Poe sent him there as a dummy to be found while his real spy does work, but that's a little cold for him. Like, it's possible the next ep will open with Kaz talking through what he learned from BB-8 and he'll figure out that Doza can't be a spy and doesn't even want to be in the First Order, but is still vulnerable to them. I'm not holding my breath though.

And at least not every character on the show's a twit. As Doza said, "You think I don't know everything that happens here?" And it's revealed he'll be keeping an eye on Kaz from now on.

There also wasn't enough of Kaz really being into the luxury of the Tower to make his "nice to be home" comment at the end meaningful. I can see what they were going for, but aside from an abundance of free snacks Kaz didn't actually partake in any of the luxuries Hype described.

I also noticed this: Poe claimed that most people don't even know the First Order exists, but this episode it seems like literally every character with more than one line does. That said, the Colossus probably isn't a representative sample of the galactic population, so it's not an inconsistency, just something to keep in mind.

All told, defintely an improvement over the last couple of eps, even though Kaz somehow managed to limbo under my expectations for him. I'm not sure what to make of a show I really enjoy when it's not focused on how head-bangingly obtuse the main character is.

    Also, buckwild theory time:
Kaz's dad is Major Vonreg. Vonreg could easily be an alias; he'd hardly be the first member of the First Order to take a new name upon joining it, after all. I have nothing to support this idsea other than that we kind of pointedly didn't get to see Kaz's dad's face and that Vonreg never takes his helmet off.

Gettin' real tired of Kaz breakin' stuff because he's a twit in the first scene of an episode, but at least this episode didn't use the last scene to fuck up all the work they did over the course of the ep to make him likeable again.

To rephrase: Kaz is still the worst part of the show for me right now, but he's actually getting better. I'm mildly optimistic.

...I mean yes, please, he was very good and he's got a natural movie-star charm and it'd be nice to see him being the kind of cold-blooded Daniel Craig-ish type we saw at the start of Rogue One to further highlight the importance of his taking a moral stand at the end of Rogue One. (I don't think we got enough of Cassian behind a cold SOB to really sell the turn.)

But on the other hand...this sounds like an attempt at Solo as a TV series. Except less likely to succeed because Solo starred an iconic pop culture character, while this is going to star a character from Star Wars. No, not that one, one of the new ones. No, one of the new new ones. Yeah, the one where they're figuring out how to blow up the Death Star. No, the Death Star, not Starkiller. Heh, yeah, they do that a lot, don't they? But the one where they all die in the end. What do you mean I spoiled it? Haven't you seen it?
