moriveth have you heard about the 200 people in canada who are mad about the liberals winning so they started Wexit
Isn't this group trying to get federally recognized as a political party whose primary platform is the secession of Alberta? Or was that another province?
It's abhorrent, but it's way more in keeping with the actual spirit of Brexit than using that suffix to describe Pokemon rosters

the verge says it doesn't fix the difficulty curve problem from the last two games, which is pretty disappointing for me

The same thing happened in Ireland, and that party's membership was recently eclipsed in a 24 hour span by the founding of a socialist party that spawned from a leftist Facebook group that posts Simpsons memes all day
My (least) favorite part of the backlash against these games is how apparently "datamined models which are identical between SwSh and USUM" is... just some images of wireframe models being passed around reddit, Twitter, and 4chan. No context, no source, actual proof. But of course people are treating it like damning evidence.
...okay my REAL very much LEAST favorite part about all this are the death threats against game devs.
Diamond/Pearl/Platinum share front sprites animated with 2 frames combined with scaling/translation/rotation effects, HeartGold/SoulSilver have a different set of 2 frame animated frontsprites, all the gen 4 games share a non-animated back sprite. The gen 5 games all have new more elaborately animated front and back sprites with slightly higher resolution and way more unique animation frames, none of them look reused after a cursory glance through a few early pokedex entries on bulbapedia.
it was when they moved to 3d models with xy/sumo that "they reuse models" became a...thing

Trying to decide between sword and shield, I'm leaning towards Sword but I'd be missing out on Sableye, Tyranitar, and Galarian Ponyta
Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if Labor had not first existed. Labor is superior to capital, and deserves much the higher consideration. - Lincoln
I don't think anyone cares about them reusing models in theory. It's when the Dex cut is justified by the creator saying "We had to remake all the models" (something to that effect, haven't seen the video in months) as their reason for the Dex cut and that appearing to be a pretty flimsy excuse.

Is it a flimsy excuse? I'm genuinely curious, I would have thought that having to remake a bunch of 3d models for their new game on top of everything else might have made them consider where best to put those resources.

I'm pumped for the game, but lack of resources as an excuse for not having all the Pokemon doesn't really fly with me. Pokemon is literally the highest grossing media franchise of all time, they can afford to staff more people.

You wouldn't want to create temp positions to do work that's going to dry up within a year, though. Even if they're doing forward-thinking design they want to keep the workflow at a level that keeps employee turnover at a minimum
i'm honestly pretty excited about them rotating poogles in and out of the dex depending on the game. gives the weirdos a lot of time to shine instead of...okay a month later we've opened up the gts and every team is six celesteenas, cool

I'm likely going to be getting sword purely because of the version-specific evolution of that one new Pokemon.
That one is right up there amongst my favorites, now.
Even if they reused the base models, it's not like they can just go to the ones they had for S/M and hit a big "Import" button and call it a day. I'm assuming that there are differences between the engine version they're using for Sw/Sh and the one they used for S/M. You're still going to have to make changes for all the assets you use and have to test each and every one to make sure there isn't anything funky going on. It's a lot of work still.

I wonder if they'll add in the rest over time DLC style or do Ultra Swish or just not bother until gen 9
One thing I've never been very clear on, but can every pokemon Dynamax, and only a few can Gigamax?
There was one hype video I watched before all the leaks started the negativity that had a pretty good point saying it's not just about having the same 3D sprites from USUM and scaling them up, but now you have to consider the dynamax sprites, the gigamax sprites, the walking-with-trainer sprites, etc. That's the kind of thing that takes up resources, not just a few combat sprites for every Pokemon.
They should have swapped those names and used Gigamax for just getting big and Dynamax for taking on a new form

Random question for anyone who has seen more spoilers than me..
Do the starters have special big-poke forms? Are there any pics of those(if they do)? Because that would be cool for someone who probably isn't going to try to hunt out one of the special forms to just have one from the start and have a good reason to keep the starter around.

That's pretty unfortunate! I guess I probably won't get to use any of the special ones then since I'm not going to replace a poke I've already been training with another of the same one I already have.

Various reviews have also pointed out that Dynamaxing is actually pretty limited in the main game, reserved just for Gyms and Max Raid battles.

Yea that's why I'm not going to go out of the way to do anything special for it. But also more the reason it feels like the starters should have those forms. Would be a perfect thing to add something a little special to your starter just for story battles. But hey, maybe this means I just try to play without using dynamax at all to make the gyms not be quite as easy.

It is a flimsy excuse (read: lie) iff (if and only if) they are only importing the models and not remaking them. People upset are claiming the models are identical and that importing them is pretty trivial. I don't know enough about programming games and video game models to confirm or deny.
I have also read that it is possible that the importer may have gotten the models but screwed up the animations. If GF had only done a few imports and they looked good at first pass, they may have put that aside and worked on other stuff instead, only to find out that whoops everything's not exactly right and many animations had to be rebuilt. Such a circumstance could mean the Dex was cut due to time limitations.

Like... they reused sprites from Gen IV for V, right? Just with some fancy animations added.
