If someone joins voice chat through steam, and you kick them from the voice chat, it keeps their microphone turned on without their knowledge. It lets you listen to everything on their microphone without them being able to disable it without restarting steam completely. They also can't hear you back.

Rogue Legacy got an update which introduces two new traits and some other stuff like cloud saves!
This is a bad time for me to realize my complete Rogue Legacy save was not on this PC. Everything's gone and I have no idea where it might be now. Oh well. I had no real plans to play the game again anyway.

The fuck? There's apparently no option to "go offline" on the friends list any more? So if you're logged in to Steam, you have to be online for chat now?

Someone linked me a video in new steam chat. It broke my steam chat. It also broke my friends list. And every single steam window. But because im already in a game I can't restart steam to actually fix it without logging out, finding my phone for my authenticator, then relogging back into ff14.
This shit is so dumb goddamn.

Wait does this mean there's a chance Valve will know nuChat sucks and since they won't try a third time they'll just keep old chat? Wooooooo! Someone start emailing gaben every third day until they announce it officially

We fixed this, thanks for reporting. In the future, it is generally better to report anything you think might be a security issue on HackerOne where we can act on it without first telling the entire world how to exploit it. Then you can responsibly disclose the issue after a fix is out.
Fortunately, in this case, if you were kicked you continued to show up as in the voice chat in your own friends list, and you could leave from there. You were in a weird state transmitting but not receiving, but you would have still seen that you were in the voice chat.

I read you can still add Offline to your taskbar settings, but supposedly it works the same as Invisible does. Probably just another bug they missed because indie team.
Secondly, I (finally) got my first Twitch Bounty and will be streaming The Crew 2 tonight after it downloads (6:30pm EST). I will probably post my non-sponsored thoughts on here afterwards, but I'd appreciate it if my G&T fam could come and check it out with me! More views means more bounties and more gifts for you guys!
Thanks for everyone who came out to watch the bounty last night. I'm not big into racing games as they can get kind of boring pretty quickly, but The Crew 2 is very varied in its design. There's multiple ways to pilot around the city and the city is huuuuge. It's like a smaller scale USA, but there are sundry areas. Bayous, cities, countryside, forests, beaches, etc... It's all here, and it looks very good. I was able to run the graphics on ultra and stream but I turned off motion blur and anisotropic filtering for the extra boost to keep closer to 60. The game is locked at either 30 or 60 fps, but I rarely noticed a dip below 60 in my play. Sometimes I would hit something and just come to a dead stop, but I feel like that's a gameplay thing not a performance thing.
Speaking of gameplay, you can either drive a car, a truck, a bike, a boat, pilot a plane... All seamlessly after purchasing the vehicles. After the first hour I had one of each, and they unlocked my favorite thing in the game which the ability to switch from vehicle to vehicle immediately. No loading, no stopping gameplay, no visiting a magical elephant to change your vehicle poof of smoke, you just Matrix load in your new vehicle and go. The events are typical races, nothing really special there, but the free roam gameplay is extremely fun. You just drive around casually and explore, every now and then your radar will blip on new performance items near by and you have to hunt them down like in Aliens. The game also gives you photo-op opportunities to take pictures of various points of interest around your current location. My favorite being woodland critters in the forest area.
The only downsides I ran into while playing were with the interface. Things seem kind of scattered around, and I kept hitting the photo-mode button (left d-pad) looking for new features as they were unlocking or for a specific menu. You also have to go back to your house in order to fully customize your vehicles or pilot instead of just doing it in the start menu. It took me a bit to even find my house on the map because of all the filter options and different types of icons. @Ianator had to point me in the right direction to find it. After finding it though, there's A LOT of customization for cars, and not a lot for your person. I wish it would let me customize my face and hair and etc... Even if they're not the focus of the game. ALSO my worst criticism of the game, is that you can not customize your license plate. Seriously!? It should have my gamertag on it at least instead of the standard 'The Crew 2' on every vehicle.
Overall, like I said, I haven't been a fan of racing games since Need For Speed Underground. However, the ability to free roam and just do whatever you want in an open world with several different vehicles (with quick-swapping) feels very unhindered and is really fun. I want to get more XP so I can unlock drag racing as that was my favorite bit of NFSU. Would I buy this at $60? Probably not, but if you are hankering for a good racing game I think The Crew 2 is pretty dope. Pick it up on sale.
Edit - UGH I TRIPLE POSTED ANYWAY... sorry mods. I'm a dumb dumb.
Scrolling through the gift friends list and saw handgimps name....
Everytime I play Final Fantasy XIV (Which is a lot lately) and look at my friends list I see his name there. Last time I played was because of him. He wanted to play FF14, so he gifted 60 day time cards to like 5 or 6 of us to play with him. The crazy sonovabitch leveled like all the crafting classes.
Every day I miss that glorious bastard.

For those people with Hellblade and either an Oculus or Vive, Ninja Theory is releasing a free update to the Steam version of Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice.
It's the third fourth Ys game. I believe all three versions of Ys IV take place in a land called Celceta, but that's about their only similarity. One version of Ys IV came out for the Super Famicom; the other came out for the PC-Engine CD. Neither was ever officially localized into English, although there are fan translations.
This game originally came out for the PS Vita. It plays similar to Ys SEVEN in that you have two companions with you most of the time. This one was localized by XSEED, who has localized every Ys game on Steam except for Ys VIII, which is notorious for running poorly (which bums me out, because I was looking forward to that one).
I'm holding off on this one for a while, but I will pick it up eventually.

I'll get it on sale. Still gotta play, like, all the other Ys games anyway. Only played 1 and 2 so far, which are like, the short, easy ones to burn through.

Yeah, the notification thing broke in the overlay I was using. disabled it and went back to default steam for now.
Not loving nu-chat. There's some good stuff here, but needs more work. Which it probably won't get.
The voice chat exploit to listen to somebody is pretty awful.
That's uh, a pretty big fuck up.
It's okay, the free market will mark chat as "funny" so people know they can look at other chats instead.

They don't pop up in the chat window, just as "unread messages" in the friends list. Like little mail, waiting to be read in the future.

Ah. I never used “appear offline” much.
I thought it used to still spawn the chat window in old chat.

It's going to be a third-person experience so I'm pretty interested to hear how it works out. The idea of Hellblade in VR is kind of scary to me.

Don't trust Ys after VII broke my heart.
just ask yourself: Y? Or Y not?
But is it Ys to start with this line of humor?

Y Yes.
I don't mean to Yves drop, but then you are shouting.
