Alright, finally have a day off tomorrow so I can grind out the last two hundred of these stupid shitty tokens and finish this garbage awful "event"
I don't understand this
If you dislike it as much as your post seems to imply, why are you doing it?
They can want the reward and still despise the event that grants it.
Sure, they don't have to do it, but then they wouldn't be able to get something they want.
I mean, it's the age old question of why do people work in jobs they hate. They're doing it for the payoff, which they either want or need, but enjoying earning it isn't always on the table.
But this isn't a job that you're working to support your life (and also people quit their jobs when they suck and find other jobs)
This is a videogame that you're supposed to be playing for fun I thought, this is how you spend your free time when you're not working
Like I enjoyed doing the Faction Rally, but I personally would hate my life trying to get the 100 sniper kills in the Crucible, so I'm not going to bother
Also, like people who do jobs they don't particularly enjoy or work for people they don't particularly like, sometimes you just want to vent, and aren't looking for justification or alternatives.
I feel like the job analogy really just needs to end (it's more like a bar anyway right????)
Obviously it's a judgement call by the player of reward vs frustration and time spent
But if you're going to vent to a public forum, in a thread dedicated to the game, about "stupid shitty garbage awful" stuff, don't be surprised when someone asks why, because those are very negative words being used to describe something you're subjecting yourself to, which made me curious what was so valuable to Maddoc

Lucked into a EP group last night as I was just going to make a new key on my warlock. Guy used me and another guy to bring in his buddies. Proceeded to 9 man steamroll the poor event into oblivion many times in a row. Ended up with two shotguns and another sniper. 5/7 would randomly do EP again~
EP is actually a hell of a lot of fun right now if you can get a group of 9 folks in there.
Shame that last bit is the actual challenge of EP.
This has nothing to do with Destiny, but why the fuck is there a dancing Panda Grand Marshal with a marching band for the ubisoft E3 program. Where did I go wrong in life?

EP with randoms is okay but I want to play with PA people and not have to spend 40 minutes putting up a group.

For EP, we generally have 9 people already, but often the randos we enlist to provide us instance anchors will play some with us, or we'll resort to the Xbox built-in LFG if we're down a few
I know it's not convenient, but it's kinda cool meeting up with randoms and working together

But the why is self-evident: for the rewards.
It's why the question makes no sense.

Thank you for your insight
I also have some insight: though I do understand this is a public forum, I was really only curious about Maddoc's answer, though if they choose not to answer then I don't blame them

Today's heroic strike modifiers are Void, Grounded, and Heavy Weapons.
I'm using this opportunity to farm masterwork credit on Graviton Lance and to melt bosses with Tarantula, holy shit.

Is there a good place to get cosmology kills for Graviton Lance?
I’m guessing Cosmology kills simply mean multikills?

Do the hope meditation from Ikora. Advance to the first darkness zone, there are three waves of thralls - run forward into the building, down the hall, make the right and then right again to the far wall - loop back to where you made the second right and shoot one thrall to blow them up. They all die. You might miss one or two. Leave the way you came, fall to your death. Repeat. Takes less than an hour.
For real though Obi's Titan loop saved my mind/efficiency and I made the same progress in 2 hours of Titan that I did in 2 days of EDZ.
I suppose I'll give it shot, it's Public Event + HvT and then the Ogre Lost Sector right
Grab a patrol (either a kill everything or a collect one) and try to complete it before the PE starts. Then hit the PE. Then rush over to the Ogre Lost Sector. Complete that, then fast travel to the zone where the next PE is popping up, grab a patrol, do the PE, go back to Ogre. Rinse repeat.
If you happen across a HvT, then you can abandon the patrol. Also, if there isn't a kill everything or collect patrol up, then grab the nearest patrol and abandon it until you find a collect/kill everything patrol.
Sunshot is fun, but after seeing the actual number of sunburn kills necessary to activate the catalyst I’m okay with waiting for it to happen in normal play. I have no desire to actively grind a number that big.

Its more that Graviton Lance's Catalyst requirement is worse than Crimson and Tractor Cannon put together, the kills for it will probably take a while but who cares, the Cosmology kills is what sucks ass, I doubt you'd even get those naturally by playing, right now I'm at 3%.
I wonder if I can even get all the Catalysts before Forsaken renders them obsolete.
I'm okay with the grind to actually activate the catalyst, whatever, at least I can do that on my own time
I'm pretty sure that's the entire point. You get the catalyst and activate the orb generation. And then you basically just use the weapon and eventually it gets more powerful. You can grind for it but imo it's clear they want you to also be able to just use the weapon a bunch cause you like it and then have it get better because of that. It's like a first step towards the game having some sort of system where you get really attached to specific guns and are rewarded for it with that gun being better.

FYI, to make this go faster the best patrol is often the observation one (the icon looks like a little compass or a clock). Because those will always send you to the other area to just stand in one spot.
So if you get the PE on the other side of the map from the Ogre LS, you do it then grab that patrol, then just run over to the other side, stand in a spot, get your full 5 stacks in like 10 seconds and you are right next to the LS and good to go.
After my normal week of play and very little halfhearted grinding I'm going to end up between level 25 and 30 for Dead Orbit. That sounds about right, I can live with that. I can still get the thing next time but I also don't have to hate my life.

Holy shit, that Destiny 2 trailer for Forsaken. Nothing subtle there.

The way I described takes less than an hour. The actual kills happened much faster than the Cosmology kills somehow but it was all done in the same session. Each pass gives 2 to 5% completion I found.

Grounded seriously needs paired with Airborne.
In fact, I feel like all of the negative effects need a positive effect to offset them. Brawler and Blackout, etc.

I agree, but they seem intent on keeping hampering modifiers, even though they're going to look at some.
I'm just saying if they're going to have those, they should have tradeoffs to make it so it isn't straight hampering.

Grind to get GL Catalyst to actually work. (at some point, because fuck doing that right now)
That sure felt like time well spent.

Yeah so uh
Cayde dies, I guess. And Hawthorne takes his body. So yeah Cayde-7 is probably happening.
It’s kinda nice they just got it out of the way

No point. It's literally right there in the promotional material.
Fair I guess.
I'm surprised they didn't save this for an emotional point in the gameplay.
On the other hand is it wrong that this is what convinced me to go ahead and pre-order?
