Well, I moved back about 300 points in competitive over the day, so that’s not great.

Not really even on tilt, I’m just catching lots of nasty games and then not managing to win the even fights.

Ok. So im starting to truly fall in love with the fighting lion. Direct hits are just insane. And there is no better feeling in the game than bank shotting someone. Except maybe nailing multiple clean two shot combos in a row.

I struggled a bit when folks push super hard and they get within the remote detonation radius, but other than that, its starting to get real fun.

And the fact im actually landing handcannon shots, in destiny 2... feels real good.

Meanwhile, I logged in for the first time in several weeks and my fiancee decided she also wanted to play, so I poured myself a big glass of long island iced tea and booted up Iron Banner.

We got horribly crushed the first match, and then won nearly every single one after that, with me constantly topping the charts with about 30 kills, 3 or 4 efficiency, and generally the most captures.

It was easily the best time I've had in 6v6 in a looooooong while.

Is the Destiny 1 community still decent?

If I get hooked on this, planning to try to finish doing everything major/story related at least once before moving on to the sequel.

Either more spaced out or each event needs to be less grindy.

I'd personally prefer this kind of event schedule if each event didn't require as much time as it does now.

I'd like it if factions were just always on like D1 and I didn't have to worry about artificial time gating.

Tied 3-3 on survival, the other team has two arc staffs ready to our 0 supers, they activate one after the other and we come out with a 1 life advantage out of it, I get heavy, my super, then the round. So sweet.

I would give Bungie so much credit if Destiny 3 involved the Vex fucking with our timeline in an effort to write our Guardian out of existence and they use the Dinkle/Nolan bot switch as a plot point. They won't but it would be awesome. Of course, I'm pretty sure the call to Dinklage would just be uncontrolled laughter on his end.

It would be amazing, agreed. I'd love it.

Unfortunately, I associate Destiny with low effort now, so....Destiny 3 = generic invasion / another end of the world situation where the new / original bad guys return and try to set off a McGuffin which will devastate the solar system that they left behind originally (so we can stop them from reaching it) which we avert.

Oh, and near-constant "Oh this Guardian with no name is amazing! You're the best, Guardian!" ad nauseum. And more intros that no matter what, even if you're with 5 other Guardians, yours is front and center.

Ridiculous tangent - I preferred D1 where the Guardian in front of your squad in Crucible was the highest light level / wasn't always your dude or your gal.

I'm not sure that "meeting the challenge to come" will be the next step for the Guardians of the Tower. Zavala says "...the City is anywhere and everywhere humanity sets foot. We will venture outward. We will dare to behold the unknown. We will walk upon new planets -- and, one day, in the light of distant stars. And Guardian ... you will lead the way." Sounds pretty specific that the future will be us going out and forging a path, rather than sitting back waiting for the next assault. I'm sure that the pyramid ships will be involved, probably closer to home than further away, but I don't see us having yet another Tower/City assault. Not with the Traveler awakened.

Uhuh. We've had two story beats since the Traveler "awakened" and so far it has changed precisely nothing.

Fuck, it would have been the perfect way to make CoO mean something. Osiris has been constantly battling Panoptes and just barely holding them in check for like a century but the ripples of the Traveler's containment fucked it up some how and put Osiris on the back foot and he's been slowly losing ground in the Forest. Instead of stupid ghost fetch quest we spend the DLC creating a bridge for the active Traveler into the Forest and thus Panoptes gets beat down for a reason beyond "Once more you are super duper ultra special Unnamed Guardian."

I also would have tied the Traveler's resurgence into Norkis/Xol waking up and possibly Rasputin deciding that he needs to spin back up himself to act as a counter balance.

All of which amounts to I expect absolutely nothing to change in Forsaken and the Traveler to do the equivalent of hitting snooze and rolling over.

I'm amazed at how fast you can get your LL up starting fresh. Last Sunday I and a couple of friends started new characters on the PC. We're all in the 340's now after around 18 hours of play time. We should be 350 or near enough by next week to run heroic strikes. We may try to work our way through the first raid (it's been about a year since I last ran it on PS4), so we may try and find some sherpas on reddit or see if anyone in the PC clan would be willing to help us.

Still, my biggest concern about switching from PS4 to PC was how long it was going to take to get my LL to what my PS4 character is at. Getting to 370+ is still going to take a while, but getting to 340 has been surprisingly quick.

You're not wrong, but I think you're overselling the lack of change. D1 gave us the setup to Oryx with The Dark Below, and then the story took a major turn with TTK (HoW was a long game setup for the stuff in Forsaken, it seems). I'm not sure where Curse of Osiris will take us eventually, but I wouldn't be surprised at all to find that having "control" of the Infinite Forest, along with Rasputin's newly awakened sense of self-preservation, will both have long term effects that spill over to D3 with the pyramids. And Forsaken is doing the same thing (in theory) that TTK did, which is to curve the story beyond the initial plot of this iteration.

But my point re: the Traveler being awake was that it defended the city (by way of defending itself), and I'm not entirely sure it's going to be so passive against immediate existential threats going forward. It hasn't changed anything immediate, but it's the setup. Real talk, the story is definitely an activity delivery method, and a thin one at that. But I think that after all the crap that Bungie has had flung their way with D2, and the early hype I've been reading about the storytelling actually taking some big boy steps towards being meaningful, they are going to up their game with D3--or at least attempt to. If they pull it off is something else entirely.

But no, I don't think it's going to be quite so stale as "here's someone else trying to blow up the City. I dunno, go shoot them, I guess."

i am worried that instead of the story "growing up" it's just going to go grimdark because oh you don't think the tone is serious enough?!

like they're really repeating this "we killed (spoiler still?)! the story is getting darker!" line over and over again and uh

Crap, I'm agreeing with Chanus. Send help.

    j/k

But yes, it's weird. Like going in to D1, I expected a serious storyline and what I got was disaster. The "That Wizard Came from the Moon" in the Beta was so unbelievable and jaw dropping....it wasn't the sole issue and, taken individually, could be ignored....but wow.

Fine, we're going to go silly and not serious like Halo? I can re-adjust my expectations. I'll even blame myself and ignore that a lot of the promo material and the whole set-up (humanity is wiped out, skeletons and rusted out cars everywhere when you first start the game) seemed set for a serious story. We can go silly.

Like, I fully expect Cayde-6 to become Cayde-7, but if he doesn't or we have confirmed deaths and no silliness....I feel odd. I'd actually prefer that to silly, still, but I wouldn't argue and even agree that it no longer fits what they've built before.

The Infinite Forest set up still doesn't make sense to me, btw. It's a computer simulation, but it's real, but it's a simulation, but it's real? I don't mean us dying in the simulation and dying for real, many have used that gimmick, but I never thought they communicated well how the Infinite Forest affects us in the real world. A lot of the simulations only make sense if the Vex can time travel and, if they can, we should already be turbofucked.

One thing I'd point out is that TDB flowed into TTK directly. That was an actual consequence to the story told in the first expansion. The House of Wolves was sorta connected in that it set the stage in the Reef but that was a much weaker connection. At least it didn't leave massive gaping plot holes for TTK like they ran into with D2. (Why didn't the Vanguard use the giant fucking Dreadnaught against the Red Legion?)

The only thing that really leads me to be hopeful is that Warmind is a massive improvement over CoO. I think Warmind is "video game good" as far as story goes. It wasted a bunch of lore because it was written with no discipline or faith in the audience but that's basically par for video game writing.

Well that and the fact that Seth Dickinson has hinted he might have been brought back in. Probably too late for Forsaken but they need someone like him and to tell some other folks to STFU.

well your first mistake was ever agreeing with me

i don't mind the silliness myself as long as it's consistent, or the contrast with serious feels right

i think a lot of the cayde/eris interactions in taken king got that pretty well

a long setup for cayde-7 tying into us getting all those doodads out of his stashes would be really neat, but i dunno if they're going that way
