Too me the biggest disappointment in Curse of Osiris was the reveal that the Vex grand plan is to turn off the sun.
I don’t think you could come up with a less interesting reveal for the incomprehensible time traveling robots if you tried
The sun being dead is just the most obvious sign of what is going on. One of the refletions specifically says:
Neither Light nor Darkness exists anymore. The sun’s warmth is gone. All life… lost.
And from one of the mercury armour set pieces:
But the Vex? The Vex seek neither Light nor Darkness. They seek Convergence, the reduction of all life to its simplest, most meaningless form. An entelechy of zeros and ones.
There's more on this too from D1 and D2 I believe.
But I think the overall picture is that the Vex seek a future where all is Vex. Where nothing else exists. Light and dark and life and all that are gone and only the Vex remain. The Vex have always been said to be seeking a way to weave themselves into the fabric of reality or something to that effect.
I saw some of that but it doesn’t really matter. The fact that they thought ‘dead sun’ was a good representation of the vex writing themselves into reality was the final nail in the wooden coffin housing my hopes for the mysteries of Destiny being resolved in a compelling way.
They could have done anything! Do some trippy Being John Malkovich shit!
I think "Dead sun, black world and a field of red Vex eyes" was a pretty good representation of the idea that everything is dead and gone and all that is left is Vex.

A solar system of computronium is boring and not very cinematic.
I definitely get your complaint but I think this is partly a visual medium thing. If anything I'd quibble that it got too close to evoking the darkness which isn't really meant to be the Vex.

I think that becomes too disconnected from reality and so risks not actually selling the idea. You need to sell the idea that it's a) our world b) but dead and c) nothing but the Vex exists anymore. You go too trippy and you lose A.
I'm not sure that "meeting the challenge to come" will be the next step for the Guardians of the Tower. Zavala says "...the City is anywhere and everywhere humanity sets foot. We will venture outward. We will dare to behold the unknown. We will walk upon new planets -- and, one day, in the light of distant stars. And Guardian ... you will lead the way." Sounds pretty specific that the future will be us going out and forging a path, rather than sitting back waiting for the next assault. I'm sure that the pyramid ships will be involved, probably closer to home than further away, but I don't see us having yet another Tower/City assault. Not with the Traveler awakened.
Uhuh. We've had two story beats since the Traveler "awakened" and so far it has changed precisely nothing.
Fuck, it would have been the perfect way to make CoO mean something. Osiris has been constantly battling Panoptes and just barely holding them in check for like a century but the ripples of the Traveler's containment fucked it up some how and put Osiris on the back foot and he's been slowly losing ground in the Forest. Instead of stupid ghost fetch quest we spend the DLC creating a bridge for the active Traveler into the Forest and thus Panoptes gets beat down for a reason beyond "Once more you are super duper ultra special Unnamed Guardian."
I also would have tied the Traveler's resurgence into Norkis/Xol waking up and possibly Rasputin deciding that he needs to spin back up himself to act as a counter balance.
All of which amounts to I expect absolutely nothing to change in Forsaken and the Traveler to do the equivalent of hitting snooze and rolling over.
But that is what happened? Like, they say so in the game. The Traveller's awakening is what set off the events of both CoO and Warmind.
I do not remember them ever mentioning it for CoO. Do you remember what form it took?
I know Warmind had the wave thing pass through Mars and I guess that counts but it is still pretty weak all in all. Especially in that it leaves both the Traveler and Rasputin as pretty much passive.
They explicitly mention it in both as I recall, though I don't remember where. The Traveller being awake is what changes the parameters of the simulation somehow and is what causes Osiris to shit a brick. The wave thing the Traveller releases is also what began the thawing on Mars that sets off the events of Warmind by releasing Noxris' Hive.
I would bet we might even get something about how either these events or the wave itself are also what sets off the events of Forsaken.
The general theme of all the D2 stories seems to be that the Traveller was playing dead for a reason and that he only woke up to smack Ghaul down and now shit gonna get crazy. Eventually culminating, one assumes, in the black pyramids showing up.
So I just listened through one of those cutscene videos for CoO and up to halfway through there are two completely throwaway references to a wake traveler. One in the opening 2D motion comic thingy in a general sense and Osiris briefly asks "Where you there when the Traveler woke? This changes everything!" with no further explanation.
CoO starts being "different" because apparently Panoptes suddenly could sense Sagira's light in that cutscene with the not quite so frozen vex. Which is a weird change to pin on the Traveler waking up but it doesn't draw any line to it.
So far the Traveler waking isn't even a MacGuffin as it doesn't really provide any motivation for anybody.

i always took that line to mean more now we can actually learn about the traveler if it’s awake and not anything like the traveler being awake has actually affected anything at all

Fillion also confirmed something that Destiny fans had suspected—he did not play Cayde-6 during the E3 trailer in which the robotic hunter’s death was revealed. In fact, Fillion says he didn’t play Cayde-6 at all for this year’s Forsaken expansion--Nolan North did. But Fillion is one of many Destiny 2 players who doesn’t believe that Cayde-6 is actually dead.

they will generally award XP and faction reputation (though some will offer even better rewards), and can be redeemed “in the field” to immediately claim your rewards

I wonder if they'll change the economy of vendor loot at all? I've been basically spending zero tokens with vendors because I just don't need gear. I have:
2,780 Weapon Parts (down from 4,500 when I went on a hunt for Masterwork Cores the other day)
1,355 Crucible
691 EDZ
431 Mars
373 Nessus
359 Arcology
121 Io
73 Mercury
I guess that means that Mercury and Io will get the best Y2 replacement gear :rotate:

I mean, I am building back my hoard right now, but when I quit just after CoO and came back a few weeks ago, I used a similar stockpile to power up in levels to the soft cap before killing any enemies. Naturally, their reaction to this was to make the soft cap farther from the true cap than ever before (and limit you to just powerful rewards and nerf Exotics being able to raise you).
That's messy as hell, though, now, because now planetary vendors are truly worthless and even "legendary" and exotic drops are pretty much ho-hum now because they will never raise your power outside of the powerful rewards. It really kills the fun of the grind up, imo, and then once you hit cap the game's over anyways.
I would guess, though, that they'll ignore it and hope random rolls on gear takes care of it.

Iron Banner Updates
The Iron Banner game mode now uses Iron Temple fire pits as capture zones instead of standard Control flags.
Added new Power Play rules unique to Iron Banner:
Upon capturing a third zone, all three zones lock for 20 seconds.
After 20 seconds, all three zones reset to neutral and must be recaptured.
Added new audio for fire pits and Power Play alerts.
Updated score and time limits to match standard Control now that Quickplay is also 6v6.

Players can now earn Valor Rank from the following playlists:

Joining a game in progress now protects your Valor Win Streak for that game.
If you lose: No penalties incurred to your Valor Win Streak.

Players will now be matched using their Glory Rank.
This means your opponents will be of similar rank to you.
The higher you climb, the tougher the opponent!
Glory Loss Streaks have been re-tuned to be less punishing over time.
Consecutive losses now decrease the Rank Points lost instead of increasing.
Streaks still cap out at five.
All Rank Streaks no longer reset once they hit their cap.
Fixed a bug where Rank Up toasts were not firing once a player hit orbit.
Fixed a bug where players who logged into a character for the first time after a weekly reset would incur the Glory Rank weekly award/penalty.

Had so many people been using Basilisk in Crucible because it had been beneficially broken? I remember it looking totally unremarkable and being surprised by how popular it was.
Fixed an issue which prevented the Season 3 Dead Orbit Gauntlet Ornament from receiving progress from Arcstriders using the Way of the Warrior subclass tree.
Armor may now be purchased from Iron Banner and Faction Rallies vendors.
FUCK YOU JERKS. That challenge is now gonna be laughably easy for Arcstriders.

Adds a calibration screen for HDR on all platforms. It can be accessed through the Brightness video setting when HDR is turned on.
Oh yes, please. Right now HDR just makes everything dark. It's pretty in wide open spaces but makes some of the caves just completely unnavigable.

Probably any of that depending on where they come from? My guess would be they will be something like challenges but not linked to a specific zone.
