I've only been playing for two hours and the game has crashed hard 3 times. In multiplayer to be fair, not sure about single player stability

I had more fun with Tyranny than AC3 because it's more similar to "complete the mission how you'd like" AC2 trilogy style. And the powers are good fun. The plot is bad, lol.

REALLY tempted to read too far into "We can't promise you a brand new game just yet."

    That's a rad shirt, regardless

Maybe a HD remaster with visuals like Yooka Laylee? I'd be down. more likely they'll be playable in Battletoads.

There's already versions of BK1&2 available on Xbox right now, so I don't feel there's a lot of value in remaking them. Personally I'd rather the effort going into making new games. (Even if they're not new BK games)

I agree, I was just going off the "no new game" wording. And while those 360 ports are faithful they don't exactly hold up at 1080p.

They've looked fine the couple of times I've played through them. (Though I don't know if they even run in 1080p; they were Xbox 360 games after all)

my read is that either they have a pitch and don't want to promise things too soon, or long shot, there actually is a new B-K game in dev but its very early days and Phil has really cracked down on early announcements. but that's me focusing on the 'just yet' part. taking it as SoT still being a new game in which we're getting some content, but they can't talking about anything brand new, meaning they need to stay quiet on what comes next. ain't language fun!

Aw, poostick. It appears that they have gotten rid of the page where you could vote for games you wanted to show up on backwards compatibility. I liked looking at that thing and seeing how the top 100 changes as games are added.

Damn red faction remastered crashes a lot, it's also not tracking my multiplayer stats properly. Also the higher quality modes frame rate is pretty bad, the performance mode is way better with 60fps and doesn't really look much different. The game is ugly anyway so better performance seems the logical choice

Digital Foundry needs to hurry up and do their technical breakdown of Nier: Automata already. As is usually the case with Platinum games, I'm on the fence about it, and this is one that is both 1) almost universally praised for its writing and 2) almost universally criticized for mediocre-to-bad optimization.

Well, it feels great to me and looks good on an X, but knowing how it stacks up would be nice. Everything feels very responsive though. Anytime I've gotten hit, it felt like I wasn't reading the enemy right and I would have had enough time to get away or react differently. Outside of bosses, I haven't been horribly punished for mistakes - but I'm not playing on hard either. Just the default difficulty setting, normal or whatever is above the easiest settings.

i thought it was a terrible game and even though i really wanted to know the story i couldn't get past how boring it was to play. I played it on PC and with the fan utility it was fine. the PS4 version was fine, there's no reason to think the xbox version won't be fine. The question is do you want to actually play it or just read about it.

I hope there's a way for some of the clothing/accessories to transfer over.

I don't want much -- just my cat, my hat, and my coat.

Incidentally, if you can equip multiple accessories now that are on a rotation or randomized, I'd be much more inclined to get more.

I just want my Adam Jensen glasses, and my Modern Warfare drone.

I was extremely unimpressed by the PC port the last time I saw it (not too long ago), not sure if the "fan utility" was working though. This was on a GTX 1070ti, I'm pretty sure, running at 1080p.

but with that fan patch you could make it run at the resolution you wanted and like I said, it was "fine". It'll be just fine on xbox too without a fan patch! It's not the most stellar looking game to begin with

As a noted bioware hater this doesn’t really do anything to make me think I will find the game fun. I liked borderlands because it was fun and silly , even if the story for two was terrible outside of jack. Destiny and this just seem like super serious versions of that premise .

Mechs and power armor are like my thing, and these look sufficiently stompy in Anthem, and the combat looks fun, so I will probably pick it up, especially if I have friends to dick around with

My hot take: Anthem has certain qualities that manage to save it from the same very uninterested view I have of Destiny (after having played both betas)--potentially interesting movement/flight mechanics, larger environments to take advantage of that, not having its head lodged firmly up its own ass via "grimoires" and "wizards". Generally, I'm not interested in loot shooters (a reason I have a really hard time getting into Borderlands), so it could still turn out to be a disappointment, but Bioware has more interesting stories than anything the Destiny production team has, as far as I'm concerned--so maybe there's something there potentially.

Or it could be another trainwreck. I hope not (I wasn't actively hoping for Destiny's failure either, but both games had plenty of problems on their own).

  • PreacherPreacher Registered User regular
My hope for Anthem and Division 2 (another multiplayer looter shooter) is that they look at the problems destiny 1&2 have had and the problems the division 1 had and actively work to avoid those easy pitfalls. Stuff like gearing up being too easy/hard/not fun with too much "use this stuff or you're a bad".

anthem not having pvp should hopefully mean your abilities can be fucking crazy and fun and not balanced against player combat, and the division will hopefully launch with versions of survival and resistance modes ready to go, so you have alternate stuff to just running the DZ and hoping for less pricks.

I really doubt that Anthem will be a trainwreck in a mechanical, or gameplay sense... but it would have to be positively flawless in order to offset the negative narrative that has been built up around it. There's a fair bit of combo usage in the gameplay video, so I'm thinking the gameplay will be more along the line of Mass Effect's, except mecha.

There's not much information on the story or relevant portion of the central conflict (ancient civilization/tech/ruins built the world/galaxy/etc and something makes them do things differently being a very common background) and all. The oddest thing being that there hasn't been any info on personal character customization (the videos all have you play a female "Freelancer".) For all intents and purposes, personal character customization in Destiny was a vestigial function, but it's still important, especially given the player character wasn't "the One" so much as "one of Many." The shift from Destiny 1's "One of Many" to Destiny 2's "You're The One" being one of the things that hurt it. Really curious in general to see how Bioware handles this, given their primary focus in prior games has been on "The One" type stories. Though I haven't played SWTOR either... so idk. You being the One Freelancer and then the others are "just there" would be annoying.

A few more months to go before we get more real information.

I loved Andromeda (an outlier, I know), having bought it post-patch, and stomping around as Iron Woman seems appealing from what I've seen so far.
I just want Anthem to do well so we can have more Mass Effect really. I can never seem to find the time for looter-shooter games like Destiny, even though they're fun.

Still disappointed we'll never get that Quarian Ark DLC; and I really hope Anthem doesn't end up being Bioware's last game.

What will help Anthem's multi is level scaling. They mentioned in the slice that if your bud just started playing that day they can join you. I like that. One thing that's always annoying is not being able to have fun with your friends because they played more/less of you.

And I liked Andromeda as well, bought it at launch and never seemed to have all the issues everyone else did with it, could have just been lucky on the xbone.

I thought Andromeda was playable but I am not a fan of its story. Poking around further, IGN apparently has more information via a collection of twitter responses that I'll link. There are 135 responses.

One of the things that bugged me was addressed though:

Javelins are generally tall mecha, it's just that the proportions of things in the gameplay video don't really suggest otherwise. Everything is slightly taller in the outside world, I suppose. (Edit: I am also assuming that he meant your feet go where the "ankles" would be)

I think they (even the two slim looking ones) are a lot bulkier and thicker than they appear in the shots. Especially with all that padding the videos show they have.

You can take fall damage in the game too, which is neat.

edit: I guess they could also be bigger on the inside too? IDK.

edit2: Is there even an Anthem thread? I imagine this should all have gone there instead. Kind of OT.
