Has anyone purchased a travel case for their Xbox One X or the newer base model? I've meant to buy one for some time now, not just to transport the console, but also things like my SNES Classic and other devices, rather than the shitty backpack I got in a PS2 promotional event 14 years ago.
Because searching for genre stuff on Game pass is kinda shite, does anyone have a recommendation for an RPG available through GP? Or should I fall back down the Kindom of Amalur hole?
I picked up Borderlands 1 yesterday as it's currently 7.99 thanks to it being on sale till the 21st. I can confirm it comes with all the DLC plus a pair of bonus weapons good for the first couple hours or so if anyone's on the fence when it comes to buying it.

Oblivion is on there, as are Fable 1 and 2. If you don't mind more MMO-y stuff, Elder Scrolls Online is cool and The division is there too.

They're all well recommended though. Mostly I don't want one that's large enough to fit the launch console, since that's unnecessarily large.
Personally, I bought a Pelican hard case. Granted, I've had this particular Pelican case for about 15 years or so and originally got it to transport a Playstation 2...but the pre-scored (scored to 1 square centimeter) foam inserts make it real easy to resize to other consoles. Right now, it perfectly fits an XboneX with room for all the cables and my Astro MixAmp (+ cables for the MixAmp). If you think that your Xbox is going to fall off a truck on the freeway and get run over by other trucks, I'd recommend a Pelican case.
That said, they're definitely pricey. Also, you could probably be okay going with a slightly smaller version. The one I have has about 7 centimeters of foam inserts still intact on the side. I've mostly been using that extra space for cables.

Yeah, there are some very macho hardened cases with foam cut-outs perfect for the XB1X, but that's not what I'm looking for. That being said, maybe one day I'll wake up and realize I need to actually travel somewhere, and don't want to stuff my XB1X back into the Project Scorpio box, and then I'll feel rather stupid.
In the meantime, though, something a bit more "flexible"--with lots of exterior and interior pockets, that I can just put more stuff in--is a bit more practical. Thank you for the suggestion though.

Played all of them, thanks though. I think KoA: Reckoning is going to be the thing for now. I guess I could also download Dragon Age: Origins and give that a fresh look (beat the hell out of it when it was new but haven't touched it since).

if you haven't tried it yet Elder Scrolls Online is actually pretty fun and very easy to solo and pretend it's not a MMO

It’s been on my “maybe pickup next sale” list for a while, but what you just described is exactly what I want it to be. Might finally stop putting it off.

I've tried it, got through the intro, and realised I'd looted 400 wheels of cheese, a pile of cabbage, and had joined 12 guilds. I had also entirely forgotten which of these quests was "the main quest", and excuse me I need to make some hammers.

It's really good, but not exactly easy to pretend it's not an MMO. You'll be running into people constantly, you don't have to interact with anyone if you don't want to but it can get slightly annoying having other folks a step ahead of you in a quest, and missing out on half a boss conversation or something. Most enemies respawn relatively quick though, so it isn't unplayable. I just wish more dungeons and areas were instanced.
If you're itching for Elder Scrolls though, man they got you covered. You can futz around in Cyrodill, Morrowind, Valenwood, and I think in June they're releasing an Elsweyr exapnsion. There's not subscription fee, but there is quite a bit of microtransactions. Cyrodill/Morrowind are base game, Valenwood/Elsweyr cost extra (which is fair). Some other stuff is kinda lame, though. Like if you want to do Dark Brotherhood stuff, you have to buy that separately.
Everyone has a price. Throw enough gold around and someone will risk disintegration.
Apparently a fairly popular streamer got into Sea of Thieves recently, and it's drawn in other big names, which has pushed SoT into being one of the most watched games on Twitch.
I will never not be surprised at how big and how influential streaming video games has become.
Well it makes sense, you see someone playing something, looks like fun, so you pick it up yourself. In a way its the evolution of going to your buddies house to see the new games he got for his birthday.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.

Your buddy didn't become a multi-millionaire who could single-handedly influence whether a game was a success or sank without a trace by doing so, though.
Granted, I know that's an infinitesimally small percentage of people who stream, but still.
And of course there's the kids (get off my lawn, etc, etc) who would rather watch streamers. No clue what sort of percentage that is. Minecraft seemed to kick that off. I wonder if Fortnite changed it much.

From being below the 100 mark or so all the way up to number three. All because of one streamer.

To be fair, there's been more to it. Most of the other big names that have hopped in are primarily Fortnite folks...and FN just had an event that changed the game/map (it's all icy and there are zombies...etc...) that have soured some of those guys. It's kind of a perfect storm thing.
Yeah, why watch the NFL when I can play football with Jimmy??
Why watch SNL when I can do a great Arnold impression??
Why do AnYtHiNg??
Getting a little defensive there. I didn't say there was anything wrong with it. I'm just saying it gave me my first real "I'm old and I don't understand these kids" moment. Just like my grandfather not "getting" video games or my mother not understanding internet memes.

Exactly; football is the most boring overanalyzed thing ever and SNL has sucked since the late 80s.
Man, football is exciting as hell! I guess unless it's just a bad team getting curb stomped, or a really low scoring defense dominant game (which is impressive in it's own way, but not terribly exciting). Also, SNL was at its peak in the 90s with all those classic Norm McDonald Weekend Updates, and Will Farrel celebrity Jeopardy skits.

It wasn't really directed at you, it's just funny people don't understand it when's it's pretty straightforward. It's about the personalities and skills the streamers offer, not the gameplay itself. Yeah, the game is a hook to get people with like minded interests watching, but it's about the person.

I watched PewDiePie play video games a few years back (before he started flirting with racism), thinking that if anyone would get me to understand the appeal of streaming, the biggest streamer on the planet would.
I still don't get it. He was fine and all, but I'd much rather just watch a silent playthrough.

Pewdie isn't like a typical streamer. Like watching one of his streams to get what's going on with streaming is like watching Big Bang theory to understand comedies.

I've kind of dipped my toe into watching that stuff (YouTube, not live. My bandwidth is not that good.) and, yeah. I generally am in it for the personality rather than the game. But that isn't always the benefit. The person I've been watching is Markiplier. Whatever anybody else's opinion, I find him entertaining.
Until... We Happy Few.
I still don't know if I'll play it myself, but I figured I'd watch him play it, be entertained, and get a feel for the game. And his third (and so far last) video on it has him running around the game world naked and screaming like a loon when NPCs naturally start chasing him. And it was a video he starts by stating he intended to push through as fast as possible because he didn't know when he'd play it again. Half of it wasted on him literally playing it wrong.
Watching him do the same basic thing in Yandere Simulator? Hilarious.
So it's a hit-or-miss thing. I remember a F.E.A.R. LP by some German guy (either a forumer or recommended by one) that was fun to watch and of course there are others. And some games are better suited to whatever the streamer is trying to do. I think that at the least it's a good way to experience a game that I might not otherwise want to play myself. I'm personally not into horror games, so watching these lets me experience a title without having to deal with the baggage* horror games come with.
*Just a personal opinion on horror as a genre. If they shed such 'baggage', then there is no horror.
Markiplier's FNaF playthroughs are particularly good. He's like weirdly good at the multitasking those games require so the gameplay is solid, he's pretty funny when he gets scared or stressed out, and he nerds out into FNaF lore something fierce. There's actually a rather interesting backstory built into all those games that I would never have learned about if I hadn't watched him play them.
Everyone has a price. Throw enough gold around and someone will risk disintegration.
You gotta remember a lot of bigger streamers are catering to a young audience, so their content is a little light on substance
There's plenty of more mature streamers out there
Artisanal streamers with organic farm grown computers.
But seriously there are literally thousands on thousands of streamers on twitch, mixer and I guess dlive (i have no idea what dlive is but a streamer I watch multi streams there now?). If you want to watch someone game there are all kinds of oeuvra there to be sampled.
hell sometimes when I'm bored I'll put on the like red zone mixer stuff they do with battle royale games where its always the last part of the match.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
I've been watching Let's Plays for years, but those are rehearsed and edited to varying degrees. I don't see the appeal of Live Streams by comparison, but hey, if E-Sports are a thing, why not those?
Aside from the more utilitarian reasons for watching someone else game (ie: researching games to buy; walkthroughs for when you hit a wall), the only time I watch someone else game is when it's something like Dunkey. And that's mainly when he's doing more humorous stuff with carefully curated "highlights" and scripted commentary, with a runtime usually under 10 minutes.
Noteworthy for two points: first off, the Xbox division is still preoccupied with backwards compatibility, which is always a good thing. Second, and while it's a very slight honor, between this and Halo Wars 1 and 2, the Xbox One is easily the best console for strategy games this time around. Sadly that's really not a big deal, but it's nice to have the options.

Has anyone purchased a travel case for their Xbox One X or the newer base model? I've meant to buy one for some time now, not just to transport the console, but also things like my SNES Classic and other devices, rather than the shitty backpack I got in a PS2 promotional event 14 years ago.
Since I'm not really planning to throw it or anything, I'm leaning towards a soft travel container with more exterior pockets, but there are two hard shell packs I'm considering that look less flexible.
