there are always one or two s.links that require a maxed stat to even start and they're always fuckin' obnoxious
Varies by game too. I remember Devil in P3:FES being a pain to unlock but in P5 it's one of the open links to start after a certain date. Pretty sure it doesn't require any stats in P5 either.
Yeah, 20 bucks to not have to drag out my Vita is worth it, I guess
Still have never competed a 100% run. The fishing one for fox usually screws me over because I can't fish for crap. But at least since it's Golden you have those extra months to make it much easier as long as you don't forget one of the new ones only appears an exact number of days you need to complete it.
1) Silence 2) Books must be returned by the last date shown 3) Do not interfere with the nature of causality
There are probably 100% guides if you're so inclined,
Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks, but following a regimented checklist for a 100-hour game seems way more miserable than maybe missing some ancillary character story beats
Yeah I'll do my best to resist that, because this stupid min-max/"correct" approach to playing games takes the fun out of it, and I'm trying to get over that. I just still feel it, and it's dumb
I got multiple save slots going though in case I mess up and am severely underleveled or sth
There's basically a hierarchy of need with social links:
Nanako and Dojima and your party members should be the highest priority for the mechanical and gameplay reasons, followed by the fox
Then it's whoever the hell you want, really, it's easy enough to rack up 9 or 10 maxed links without trying
In Golden, you should level up Marie as a priority too.

I wonder if there's a way to trigger NG+ in a mod. I prefer playing it without having to worry about building the stats and getting all of things you can carry over.

I'm curious about her! Meeting her early on and then again in
I've never played Golden; I probably won't right now, either, but it's a possibility for the future
I hear a lot of folks complain about Marie. What's her deal supposed to be? Feel free to put in spoiler tags
Speaking only from half-remembered other people's impressions:
She's one of those "designated girlfriend" characters that people find annoying; unlike other potential romance options she immediately falls for the MC and can't really be dissuaded. Since she was created as a new addition to Golden, you can sense how she doesn't really fit in with the original script, which makes her existence in that capacity even more glaring. And then she's the center of whatever bonus plot they added to Golden (I forget what or who she turns out to be), which, again, gives you the sense that Atlus is going to make her the center of the universe regardless of what you want.
My favorite musical instrument is the air-raid siren.

Yes. She's very Manic Pixie Dreamgirl, JRPG style.
1. Is Eng dub really so good that it is worth playing with it instead of original JP dub?
2. Is it game worth playing twice, so I should not try to get as much completion as possible during my first playthrough? Is there some New Game +?

1. the dub is fantastic
2. there is a new game +, and for your first play through just focus on doing what you most want to do, there’s an optimal ranking of who to SLink with first but basically just do what makes you happy

I would say the answer to both those questions is yes.
There is a NG+, I think there might be some stuff that's only available in NG+ (it's been a long time since I've played P4).

On 1. even though I like most of the Japanese voices, I’m gonna go ahead and say you should use the English dub solely because the few minutes I spent with Japanese Teddy so far have been completely intolerable.
For 2, the game is ultra long, but also has a very comfortable rhythm that makes revisiting it feel pretty good. You may not do it immediately, but so far I’ve replayed P3, P4, and P5 a couple times each.

I'm not sure if this was already a think in P5.
But I really like the fact in P5R that instead of forcing you to hold all the Persona for an advanced fusion they'll just instantly take any you don't have from the compendium.
Remember that shit used to annoy the hell out of me.
Marie is a scene girl who goes "Don't think this means I like you baka!" and writes bad poetry
In general a lot of the story additions to Golden are a bit more "stereotypical anime", like a bath scene with the girls. Marie being tsun tsun plays into that as well.
I don't think she's an unrealistically written teenager, tho.

The only P4G story addition that made any impression on me was the initial ski resort stuff, because the scene you get if you're dating Rise is pretty charming.
I...don't really remember anything else (I completely forgot that it adds a Halloween event). Other than Marie, who I never once gave a shit about.

My biggest problem with Marie is that (all spoilers)
fleshing out Izanami is all well and good, but the Gas Station Attendant is a WAY more interesting character, I'd rather hang out with HER.

I just got done with Royal and holy shit that was a ride.
I figured the brakes came off once you chose to go after Shido but goddamn that was more than I expected. I went for Maruki's confidant as early as I could because it started giving me bonus SP, what the fuck was that?! I already attacked and dethroned god and now I need to do it again?
It's been a real long time since I had this much fun with a single player game. I wasn't able to finish a few arcana though-- The Lovers, The Emperor, The Hermit, The Empress, The Hanged Man, and I just plain missed The Sun. Now that I know what to look for and don't have to worry about stat checks I think I can full clear on the next round.
I'm sure it's because I'm comparing it to Persona 5, but Persona 4 is pretty bad so far.
It has a pretty strong plot, especially if you don't know the twists. I think it's stronger than the sum of its parts, or something like that. I played it at release, though.
I enjoyed that the idea was that it would be a complete game and that there would be no 'FES' expansion(yeah that lasted).
I’m explicitly not judging the plot yet, but first impressions of the characters have not been good, the first dungeon is literally a bunch of floors of the exact same room, the music, while still above average does not hold a candle to it’s successor, and the tutorial section is surprisingly lacking, which is surprising considering how robust it was in 5, I guess I assumed they had it figured out before then. I know it’s usually hard going backwards in a series, but definitely didn’t realize how drastic of an improvement Persona 5 was to Persona 4.
I haven’t been this jarred by going backwards in a series since playing Uncharted 2, then going back to play the first one.

To be fair they are like at 8 years apart, I think the OG P4 came out on a PS2 too
Even things like the way you gather more Persona is just so much better in 5, and the cover/ambush system too.
I’m also not a fan of how the awakenings work, with being a badass moment of revelation and the power that comes with clarity of self in 5, but you having to step in and save them from their own shadow instead in 4.
Went into Yukiko's dungeon. I'm not sure if I'm going to make it, but I'm getting xp and money, and there wasn't much else to do. THEN A BRONZE CUBE CAME AND BLEW ME UP WTF
I'll continue though. It seems like the main difficulty from going through the dungeon is recovery, which is limited by my funds. Which is kind of interesting, I think I'm too used to a HP/SP refresh at save points and the like
e: I just realized that the enemies are 3 levels higher than me on average. I might have to finish this dungeon another day
e2: and what is that lewd wallpaper on King Moron's laptop?
The dungeons are meant to take multiple days, you're meant to be using sp to heal and then tapping out once your sp is gone
As you get better at juggling the systems and unlock a few more things it gets easier to do the dungeons faster
There's also no shame in just dodging enemies to get a few more floors under your belt and hitting the next save point. You can always go back to an earlier floor to grind if necessary
Yeah SP recovery (or rather, the money for it) is the main issue. Made good progress on my first attempt, got to the floor where Yukiko is, but I was too low on everything to continue. Also fusing is...a lot to take in
Fusing seems overwhelming at first, and there's more depth to it you can learn as you go, but if you just stick to ABF (Always Be Fusing) that won't steer you wrong
Just mash everything together always, you can always retrieve things you wanna keep from the compendium, but especially as your S Links level up fusing will keep your personas strong way more efficiently than grinding levels with them
Throw everything away the second something better comes along, including izanagi. The only reason to hold onto something is if it will learn a move you want to pass on to something else
I deliberately didn't fuse yet because I thought I'd ideally level up my S-Links. Guess I'll skip that. And man, fusing Izanagi will take some effort. It's *my* Persona! Like, it's the guy!
In P5 specifically it also sucked that even ‘catching’ a new persona wouldn’t count unless you added them to your current active roster.
So if you went through all the dialogue rock/paper/scissors to convince them to join you, but if you don’t like their move set, they basically need to take up space
EDIT: Not to mention that none of its info is saved, so you can beat up a Persona, convince it to join you, see its moveset and weaknesses, but unless you exit the fight with it in your active party, none of that info gets saved and will be unknown if you come across it again.

Also I don’t think I ever bothered with the club one or the one you need a high stat to even start with
