Suffering is knowing P5S exists and not being able to get it in English yet

In meantime, I really want to get a game of Voidheart Symphony going to scratch my Persona itch.

Have they even confirmed that P5 Scramble is coming out here?

Anyway, in my P5R game I've made it to the November palace
The music in the casino rules, I'm liking this dungeon WAY more than Haru's so far

That said though, Haru & Makoto's Showtime attack was unexpected and delightful.

I've also got Maruki up to a rank 9 confidant, and once I'm done with this dungeon I'll get Akechi to... whatever level he needs to be. I think it's 8 or 9?

    Nope! Not in the slightest.
They even did a survey after it came out asking if we'd maybe be interested in more Persona stuff coming here. YES, THE ANSWER IS YES, THE THING WE'VE BEEN YELLING AT YOU FOR YEARS

    P5R
It's 8. Last two ranks are on rails if you can make it there. You've gotten Yoshizawa to 5, yeah?

I don't care much for the voice acting in the Nocturne remaster trailer but I am excited to punch Lucifer in his stupid face. Hopefully they give me an option to flip his chair over.

I remember back when I first played Nocturne, the Neutral Human ending seemed like the obvious "best" ending to me

Now, it legitimately seems like the worst one

It actually has substance, I'd put it second behind TDE. It's a nice cap to Yuko's goal, and brings everything full circle.

Whereas the other endings just kind of stop.

    Yeah, uh

That was not a qualitative statement about the narrative structure of the endings

It was about how I have changed as a person in the past sixteen years and how I view the outcome of each ending has changed

Am I missing something or is the Devil confidant in P5R as useless as it seems

Easily the lowest-priority confidant. Really anything that deals with being surrounded or not ambushing regular enemies is pretty worthless. It's so easy to ambush all the time.

I just wrapped up a big Mementos trip, including the Fortune and Temperance requests, and 2 whole palaces' worth of floors and all the stamps therein. Then immediately had to go to Hawaii, which is mostly a long cutscene.
When I get back, I'll have 800,000+ yen to blow on new gear, I haven't done that in a bit. The sooty armor is pretty good for armor, but pretty much everyone needs a weapon and gun upgrade. Royal drops so many more accessories on you, I have trouble keeping up with them, but I have plenty of those. The will Seed accessories, especially after Jose upgrades them, are quite nice.

Which skills do you guys de-emphasize because they're too niche or because they're easily replicable with items? I do:
Status recovery: Unless it's amrita shower, which is all-ailments, targets everyone. Anything else is cheap to get with items
X Break: I just don't think reducing one elemental resistance/null/ec. to not-resist is that useful. Maybe for Ann, who's super reliant on magic damage?
X Wall: Again, just doesn't come up often enough. MC can switch personas, other members can be swapped out if their weakness is a real liability.
Dekunda/Dekaja: I am trying to drop these in favor of items this time around. They're good but very infrequently needed.
Rain/Pollen passive skills. Again, too niche. I suppose you could build a persona for hunting the Reaper on a Pollen day.
Stagnant Air: Rarely am I relying on status effects so much that I want to spend an extra turn increasing the chance it's going to land. I bet it's almost always better to just cast the thing twice. Is there an item for this?
Reflect and reflect-breaking skills: Just don't come up often. Bosses have Almighty attacks pretty frequently on top of that. Plus there are enough items.

I am considering dropping the multitarget buff and debuff skills. There are quite a few items that do them, I don't use them except on boss fights, and items are much more flexible.

  • YaYaYaYa Decent. Registered User regular
I never touched the Breaks or Walls or weather skills, but Dekunda and Dekaja ended up being pretty vital in my Hard playthrough, ditto some of the multibuffs and debuffs, although once you get Debilitate and Heat Riser as easily fuseable skills it sort of stops mattering

  • captainkcaptaink TexasRegistered User regular
Debilitate is great, but Heat Riser being only single target isn't so great. At least for Defense and Agility, I want everyone buffed.

  • YaYaYaYa Decent. Registered User regular
    gotcha

there are a few mid-late game Personas you can get that also give you full ma-buffs automatically at the start of every battle if you have them equipped, and most party members get an auto-buff as well

if you get Futaba's confidant maxed then she'll give everyone Heat Riser pretty frequently too

  • captainkcaptaink TexasRegistered User regular
Seeing that the Jazz Club can teach some of these skills on Sundays. Each Sunday is a different skill, and most are only offered once. All the Ma-buff/debuffs, Charge/Concentrate. Late game it offers Debilitate and Heat Riser, and Ali Dance (wiki says it halves hit rate of all incoming attacks) and Arms/Spell Master. Sadly I have missed my chance to teach Yusuke Charge. (Ryuji learns it normally).

  • DaebunzDaebunz Registered User regular
Getting charge on yusuke makes him significantly better than he was in vanilla

Theres some busted stuff from jazz club

Heat Riser is very meh, but there is a party-wide version called Thermopylae that’s pretty useless in vanilla since it can only be used when you’re surrounded, and there’s a trait in Royal that removes the qualifier from those types of abilities, so it’s just a very good party-wide all buffs

What I did when I struggled was buy some Psy-boosting accessories from the shop in Kichijoji (there's also a shop in the underground mall I think?) and and slap them on Joker and Haru to get my damage up. Also make absolutely certain that you cleanse any buffs the mobs have otherwise you won't be able to kill them fast enough.

Also craft some psi damage items, then you can have every character that doesn’t have that damage types use it for baton passes

  • DaebunzDaebunz Registered User regular
setting up big AoE baton pass turns with damage consumables was the only way I got through it

I knew Akechi was the traitor, but man, what a slimeball that kid is

The conversation between him and Shido where they explicitly detail all their evil plans was fucking hilarious, like, it's so corny

I love Sojiro being completely on board with helping the phantom thieves while simultaneously completely confused about how they do anything at all

My favorite part of the Akechi thing is that the big twist isn't that he's the traitor since that's blatantly obvious, it's that your team has been planning to get him the entire game.

I think this might have been the most elaborate scheme I've seen in fiction to have absolutely zero plot holes in it. The next couple hours afterwards were thoughts of "aha, wait, but what about X" only to realize "no, wait, they totally did establish X that one time thirty hours ago". It's airtight.
