I'm really charmed by the way that Spirits mode has the characters emulate the people they're possessed by. I think my favorite so far is Wolf as Mumkhar, starting out as a giant Metal enemy, and then downgrading in size after you beat him up for a while. King K. Rool as The Imprisoned, just standing there while Ghirahim tries to protect him, is also neat.

Definitely a nice touch that they've turned at least a few assist trophies into fighters for challenges.
I'm really glad there's going to be more single-player content again. Long past are the frequent nights of Smashing with friends and family of the neighborhood.
I dunno, angry plants are so ubiquitous in the Marios that I notice their absence instead of their presence. Goombas aren't elevated to the level of architectural style.
I'm gonna be that guy who looks at every Spirit fight and tries to figure out exactly why they have those particular modifiers. For example, Owain (I regret not picking up most of the kids in Fire Emblem Awakening) is always boasting about how twitchy his sword hand is. So the possessed Chrom taunts all the time and has a particularly deadly sword.
Piranha plant still seems waaaay more fun than either ken or incineroar though.
I'm actually kinda sad that they don't use any more out there Pokémon at all with there being so many.

Man, I am so beyond psyched for Pirahna Plant.
Just playing that character is going to put a dumb smile on my face, it's the perfect level of silly and ridiculous that I can't say no to.

I think that Plant might be my next Miibo. That looks so cool.
In the World of Light trailer there's a small nod to Kid Icarus Uprising. After Palutena gets dusted you see both Pits lose their power of flight and slow/stall out before getting dusted as well. Pit does not have full flight in Uprising, so Palutena temporarily grants him the power of flight for the flying rail shooter stages.
The Treehouse footage finally showed us Richter's Final Smash. It's the same Grand Cross as Simon's. Not sure whey they didn't show that before now.
Also, we got to see Peach and Diddy Kong's Final Smashes. The former is the same thing it's been since Brawl (Daisy's spawns healing daisies instead of healing peaches), while Diddy's is effectively Volt Tackle or Super Sonic but using the rocketbarrel jetpack.
My favorite musical instrument is the air-raid siren.

Well, two caveats.
One: Viridi can do it too
Two: Pitoo doesn't need the help iirc.
Me, Yesterday: I hope Smash Bros. focuses on multiplayer because its single player modes have always been lackluster and relatively uninteresting
Me, Today: WOW THE SINGLE PLAYER LOOKS AMAZING
I am mostly won over because the focus seems more to be on weird theme battles instead of Bad Platforming
Event matches were always my favorite singleplayer mode so I'm happy about that. Don't care about the spirit management aspect of it though, I wish they'd stop trying to tack on RPG elements to Smash.
So the main SP content for Ultimate is a big story mode where you run around rescuing all the Nintendo characters that got murdered? That sounds pretty substantial. I was going to wait and see, but I think I might get the game at launch. Also, lately fighting games have gone pretty crazy with the guest characters, so I'm excited to see who might show up as DLC (gimmie Lightning pls).
Everyone has a price. Throw enough gold around and someone will risk disintegration.
Dark Pit got flight powers by stealing it from Pandora, at some point he loses it when Pandora becomes Amazon Pandora, so he needed Viridi to grant him flight. Man I want a Kid Icarus Uprising sequel or port for the Switch.

I would limit your expectations about the amount of story it's going to have, I expect it's mostly a hub for the "Spirits" event matches that's bookended by cinematics.
The spirit thing seems cool, but it does also seem it can get really complicated regarding elemental and other trait boosts, etc..
Specially when trying to spec for fights.
I imagine the competitive scene will have no spirits, stat-boosting, etc.?
You know, it's been ages since I complained about "joke characters" in Smash Bros. in all seriousness, but I'm 99% sure there've been Piranha Plants with legs before (Petey Piranha aside), I just can't remember exactly in which game. So I wonder why they didn't just go with those?

It was probably supposed to be Petey but his proportions are so weird at any size the plant was a better choice
If you had any time left on it, you still get the discount until it's up. I still have a couple weeks left.

Ah, okay. I bought mine when I picked up my Switch / Breath of the Wild, so I am willing to bet I'll be good until that time next year.
So is this canonically a Kirby game?

I'd be down for that. It is Kirby's Adventures in Dreamland, right?
Also -- This now explains why there is so much emphasis on the eyes in the match setup screens. The eyes are the gateway to the soul, after all.
The wealth of personality shown by Inciniroar was a nice surprise.
The Japanese version of Lifelight is also pretty.

Do it anyway! You can come back in ten years, redo it, and show off how much you've improved!
