coffee can be kind of gross, so if you're addicted to caffeine I can kind of understand wanting to make it taste better
feels like cream/milk would be a better way to cut the edge off of that bitter/burn taste on some of them though
I make coffee on the regular for the compound of friends that I live with, so I get gifted a lot of coffee beans for free.
My preference for coffee skews dark and earthy, and I’ll drink a cup like that straight. But, if someone picks up something more acidic, lighter roast, washed processed, Latin American, etc I’ll put in a dash of whole milk to mellow it out.
But damn a solid dark roast like Blue Bottle’s Giant Steps made right? I could drink that all day straight like water.
Man I miss that stuff. I've switched over to using locally roasted beans just to save a little money/time but none of it is as good as some of those Blue Bottle blends.
I am very cautious about ordering anything out of the ordinary or in a weird way at a coffee shop or restaurant. It's just creating problems.
I got used to no menu substitutions living in Japan. I get if you have dietary restrictions, of course, but now I just try to order everything as is, trusting the vision of the chef.
I remember when I first got back and was asked how well I wanted my meat done I was so blindsided I spurted out: “whatever the chef thinks they know best”

Last Wednesday:
"hey, should I prepare a job talk for this interview?" Radio silence from HR
Thursday: "not sure if you got my email, should I prep a presentation?" Nothing for a day, then on Friday she says "I dunno, if you want I guess?"
Today, with < 24 hours notice: "the team would like to hear a presentation and have blocked out an hour for it"
Black coffee is the best, assuming you have good coffee.
Its probably about 35% of my liquid intake, followed only by water and then alcohol.
I am chronicly dehydrated.
A lot of what people have with being drowsy feeling in the morning is because of dehydration. Some of it is other things, but, still... drinking 18 ounces of water instead of coffee will do the exact same thing, except in 2 hours you won't want to be dragging your face through glass as withdrawal sits in from the coffee
not a doctor, not a lawyer, examples I use may not be fully researched so don't take out of context plz, don't @ me

One of my main social anxieties is going off-menu for anything, really. I've seen people talk about their fast food restaurant orders and how they just build something from the ground up, and it's ridiculous to me.

One of my friends is a restaurant manager and had a customer that literally never ordered off the menu. Like, I don’t mean that he would make a bunch of substitutions. I mean he would basically speak a recipe to the waiter using ingredients he knew the restaurant had.
Guy was nice enough and tipped well so they endured it.
Guy wanted to help renovate when my friend acquired a runndown bar to make into his own, shockingly we had to tell him not to come back after a couple days because he was a control freak that tried to micromanage everyone and everything.

American lass om my university course has six sugars in her cofffee, six. Sets my teeth on edge thinking about it. She's a nice girl though.

Looks, let’s just say I have seen people screw the tops off of the suguar containers so they can pour out the sugar they want in a reasonable timeframe.
I realize we are talking about coffee, but its not like i havent seen the same thing happen with a salt shaker as well

All I drink these days is milk, water and coffee so something delicious to break up the monotony of water is amazing.

Serious question: is this a situation in which you throw HR under the bus, and you lead your presentation with a screenshot of the email exchange?
Cuz, you know, who likes HR anyways? Especially university HR.
Like I said, almost everyone, you lot are the weird ones who actually like it.
Nearly everyone who grumbles about spending so much money on coffee at work always tells me they don't drink it for flavor and when I reiterate the "you're just dehydrated anyways" they just grumble again. They especially don't like it when I mention that just a straight black coffee is fairly cheap, maybe avoid those sugar pump things at coffee shops if you are on a budget and can't spend $15 a day on coffee.
Also those same people should probably stop spending $50 a week on cigarettes too.

Having some experience with both corporate and university high-level interviews, I starting prepping a presentation two weeks ago (aka copy-pasting from other talks)
But my anxiety would have liked to get a heads up before the weekend so I knew whether polishing it would be a waste of time or not.
Just to note: coffee doesn’t actually dehydrate you like booze does. It’s simply a diuretic and makes you want to pee.
I think a cup of coffee is net hydration? Paired with a cup of water it definitely is.
Oh yeah the water will outpace the diuretic effects in most liquids. But that doesn't detract from the effects on your body after the caffeine wears out, and waking up in the morning just being dehydrated and that making you feel like shit.

Coffee is very cheap if you make it yourself, and very easy to do too. I find it really hard to justify going to coffee shops these days.
Also in addition to ever else it sounds like your coworkers are giving themselves sugar crashes.

Finally one day I couldn't take it

"Well, it's just...so you're drinking coffee. But you're drinking decaf, so you're not drinking it for the caffeine. And you're putting cream and sugar in it, so you're not drinking it for the taste. So, I gotta ask...why ya drinking coffee?"
He laughed pretty good and just sorta shrugged and said, "I always used to drink it like this before I switched to decaf, guess it's just a habit."
Loud cubicle neighbor is going to drive me to drink non coffee beverages today. Fortunately tomorrow I'm with a vendor most of the day and the rest of the week I'm working from home or on PTO so this is the last time I'll have to listen to him for the week.

Some people like the taste of coffee with milk/cream and sugar but not without it. I don't see where the cognitive dissonance is coming from with that frankly.
